#9 - The Dreaming FieldsWriters: Matraca Berg, Gary Harrison Total Points: 97 taylor - 2 tim - 4 someguy - 8 fearlessarrow - 8 BackwoodsBarbie - 8 .indulgecountry - 10 Kanenrá:ke - 10 castleoblivion26 - 11 Troublemaker - 11 austin - 12 bboat11 - 13 By just one point, "The Dreaming Fields" pulls ahead of "Nothin' About You Is Good For Me", and finishes at #9. taylor's list makes all the difference here, as "The Dreaming Fields" was #2, and "Nothin' About You Is Good For Me" was #13. I'm really happy it worked out that way, as "The Dreaming Fields" is such a powerful and beautiful song. I love the imagery of the lyrics, and the way Trisha sings it puts emphasis on just the right parts (the way she sings "nineteen and forty-three" is a perfect example of that, imo). I can see where people might find it a little sleepy, but I think this is such a great example of why Trisha is a master class singer and interpreter. The album is so strong that I ended up putting it at #8, but I really do love it. It received four bottom three ranks, including bboat11's last place ranking. The song is another co-writing collaboration between Matraca Berg and Gary Harrison. Also, the 'me' streak is finally broken, as "This Is Me You're Talking To" survives elimination.

Did y'all listen to the same song I did?! I thought this song was incredible and I'm sad it's gone so early. Ugh. At least it scraped itself out of a double digit placement thanks to me. </3

I'll try to finish tomorrow, with a set of reveals earlier in the day and a second set later in the day.
Numbers 7 and 8 are separated by just one point. One is the most polarizing song in the rankdown, with multiple last places and also multiple top 5 ranks. The other had much more consistent placements.

These results are a mess so far. "Help Me" and "Sing You Back to Me" are snoozefests so yay @ those being out early, but what the actual fuq @ "Drown Me" and "Nothin' About You Is Good for Me" eliminated already? Both of those are JAMS!
"Cowboys" has also already vastly overstayed. Possibly the worst song I've ever heard from Trisha's catalog, and a big blemish on an otherwise strong record.

It was also recorded by Terri Clark for her album Pain To Kill. I'm sure it's a matter of opinion, but I think that Trisha's version is much better. Same. Trisha's delivery is perfect. Terri's version is pretty flavorless by comparison imo.

The only argument that could even slightly be made in favor of Trisha's version of "Not A Bad Thing" over Terri's is that her version switches to double-time in the chorus. That little uptick in speed gives the song a cute little burst of energy that is pretty cool! However, while Trisha may have the edge in ballad delivery, Terri has always been a much more natural and charismatic uptempo vocalist. And it probably goes without saying that the incredible baritone guitar drop that kicks off Terri's version makes me all tingly inside 😂
Personally, it's my favorite album track from Terri's best album.

I ended up watching the Emmys last night, and then was pretty tired afterwards so I just went to bed. We’ll kick off the top 4 with our first single loss in a few minutes!

#4 - They Call It Falling For A ReasonWriters: Matraca Berg, Jim Collins Total Points: 61 tim - 2 fearlessarrow - 2 someguy - 3 austin - 5 BackwoodsBarbie - 5 bboat11 - 5 castleoblivion26 - 6 .indulgecountry - 8 taylor - 8 Kanenrá:ke - 8 Troublemaker - 9 "They Call It Falling For A Reason", the album's third and final single, leaves at #4. In doing so, it becomes our first single to exit the rankdown. Sent to radio in July of 2008, it stalled out at #54 on Billboard's Country Airplay chart. The song was co-written by Matraca Berg, a frequent writer of Trisha's songs. This was always a top 5 contender here, and even competed for a spot in the top 3 for awhile. No one loses a #1, but tim and fearlessarrow both lose their #2.

#3 - Heaven, Heartache And The Power Of LoveWriters: Clay Mills, Tia Sellers Total Points: 48 tim - 1 fearlessarrow - 1 castleoblivion26 - 1 .indulgecountry - 1 Kanenrá:ke - 3 Troublemaker - 5 someguy - 5 austin - 7 taylor - 7 bboat11 - 8 BackwoodsBarbie - 9 In a bit of an upset, the album's lead and most successful single, "Heaven, Heartache And The Power Of Love" bows out at #3. Surprisingly, it was never a contender for the top 2, and was not even always in the top 5. It solidified itself at #3 about halfway through, and didn't really budge from there. The song shot up the charts quickly in the summer of 2007, but stalled out once it hit the top 20. It eventually peaked at #19. It was four people's #1 - tim, fearlessarrow, castleoblivion26 and .indulgecountry.

#2 - Nothin' 'Bout MemphisWriters: Jessi Alexander, Tommy Lee James Total Points: 41 Kanenrá:ke - 1 Troublemaker - 1 someguy - 1 BackwoodsBarbie - 1 bboat11 - 2 tim - 3 .indulgecountry - 3 castleoblivion26 - 4 austin - 6 fearlessarrow - 7 taylor - 12 Here's where we see the biggest impact of taylor's list. "Nothin' 'Bout Memphis" was #1 the ENTIRE time, but taylor's #12 ranked knocked it back to #2, finishing 9 points below our #1. It was a close race at the end, but 'Memphis' would have pulled it off otherwise. This has always been a huge favourite of mine. I'm sure that it would have been the album's fourth single, had "They Call It Falling For A Reason" not stalled out so low. Trisha sounds phenomenal here, and I think this was such a missed single opportunity. A lot of people agree with me, as four of us ( someguy, Kanenrá:ke, BackwoodsBarbie and Troublemaker) had it as our #1.

#1 - This Is Me You're Talking ToWriters: Tommy Lee James, Karyn Rochelle Total Points: 32 bboat11 - 1 taylor - 1 someguy - 2 .indulgecountry - 2 castleoblivion26 - 2 austin - 2 BackwoodsBarbie - 3 Kanenrá:ke - 4 fearlessarrow - 4 tim - 5 Troublemaker - 6 If it couldn't be "Nothin' 'Bout Memphis", I'm glad it's "This Is Me You're Talking To". The song is a simple ballad that builds and builds to become a powerhouse, and Trisha provides one of the best vocal performances of her career here. It was released as the album's second single, and it slowly climbed the charts, ending up peaking at #25. Unfortunately it had to compete with "Another Try", her Josh Turner collaboration, as they both debuted on the charts the same week. That one eventually made it to #15. It was a top 2 contender here almost the entire time. It received four #2 rankings, and both bboat11 and taylor put it as their #1.

And there we have it! Thanks to everyone for participating. Trisha is probably my second favourite artist, and this is my favourite album of hers. It was released in the Fall of 2007, the year that I moved three hours away to go to grad school for a year. I have such found memories of listening to it and a handful of other albums that came out around that time (Reba Duets, Kenny Chesney's Poets & Pirates and, interestingly enough, Kanye West's Graduation) multiple times when I would make the long drive home a couple times a month.
We have two regular studio albums left to do (Real Live Woman and Inside Out), so my plan is to make them due in early November. Then, a Trisha Christmas rankdown this December. Anything else, if we do them (extras, album tracks, etc.) will wait until next year. I'll get listening links up for those albums either later tonight, or tomorrow evening.

I'm very pleased with how this rankdown went overall! It was an awesome album (definitely one of my favorites that we have done from Trisha), and the biggest takeaway was the resounding thought "How the fuck was "Nothin' 'Bout Memphis" never a single", so I am quite pleased to see it finish so high, if not almost pull off a win! "This Is Me You're Talking To" is one of my favorite Trisha singles though, so I am alright with the inevitable fuckery that follows wherever Tay tries to insert her taste. It's a perfect finish, imo! The title track would have been a fitting winner as well, but tbh her minor-key uptempos always wear on me pretty quickly. Thanks for the rankdown someguy!!! Can't believe this series is already almost done! I guess this is just a good reminder of how reasonably our album series can progress if we don't leave them sitting for months at a time with nothing happening

taylor really is the new Flops ( LBTrocks) of rankdowns. Jesus Christ. That tanking was a choice, girl... I prefer "Talking To" slightly (my #2 vs. my #3 for "Memphis") but it would've been kinda cool to see an album cut win. That said, "Talking To" is immaculate. I wish the lead single had won over either of them though. The swampy gospel vibe of the title cut is so perfect for her big voice. Definitely one of the best uptempos of her entire career imo.

I'm glad to see my work here was executed wonderfully. I stand by both my #1 (one of her absolute best of all time) and #12 (not to slander it more but I forgot how it goes the minute I submitted my list). Thanks for hosting someguy and by doing these albums two in a row we've really been able to fly right through these things with ease; it's hard to believe we're actually on her last two regular albums!

I really kinda dislike the title track and thought it was a weird single at the time so I am glad it didn’t make the Top 2, but I did enjoy both of the Top 2. I think the right song won! It’s beautiful.

I find that I often overlook “This Is Me You’re Talking To” if only because it’s a bit of an investment as it takes a good two minutes before it really takes off. Once it does, though, it’s well worth the wait as the buildup gives way to a powerhouse vocal from Trisha. Because of that I see why it’s such a favorite amongst the group, but as much as I can appreciate her performance on it I just don’t consider this a go-to for me from this album. I actually would’ve much preferred to have seen the great “Nothin’ ‘Bout Memphis” win and I’ll join the chorus of those wondering just what taylor was thinking in putting this in their bottom two?!? I think this would’ve made for a great choice as a single. The title track is a song that has grown on me bit by bit over the years as I can’t say I was a huge fan of it during its initial run at country radio. I think this song embodies and captures the overall sound of the album as a whole so I can see why they titled the album after this and went with it as the lead single. It’s a jam of mine now as it never fails to put me in a groovy mood whenever I hear it. I don’t have much of a memory ever hearing “They Call It Falling For a Reason” on the radio which is a shame because next to the title track this is my favorite song. I can only assume that this petered out early on the charts because Big Machine didn’t really have much more of an investment into any more singles. The production and sound of of this song really standout in a good way as it’s a bit of a departure from anything she had released before I think. That said, I pretty much figured this would’t make its way into the top three but overall I’m glad it got a handful of support in the top five. Thanks again, someguy, and I’m looking forward to the next round!

Aww damn at "Nothin' 'Bout Memphis" not winning because of that very odd ranking like damn... :(
Her vocal on it is killer but I always loved the production the most, just a great sound for her voice to be surrounded in.
"This Is Me You're Talking To" is also a very worthy winner and is easily her best vocal on the album and the build up is so great once it gets to where it's going!
This album was so fresh sounding for her I wish Big Machine had invested more into promotion, the singles should've been huge.
