While I think Run is a good song, I don't think it'll be the song to smash Joji into the mainstream. I fear it'll sadly follow the route of Sanctuary and SLOW DANCING IN THE DARK: good first week streams but I don't think it'll have the longevity it needs.slow dancing in the dark was literally the opposite of that lol My point with SLOW DANCING was that by the time it charted, it had peaked in streaming. It got lucky becoming a TikTok meme.

This is not true no matter which chart you try to compare it to. It's only #88 on the Hot 100 all-time list; Low is at #28. It was only at #6 on the decade-end list for the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. It was massive, sure, but it definitely wasn't the "biggest rap song of all time." ooof I got that mixed up with biggest of the decade Even then, the point still stands. Except that instead of comparing Rockstar to Low, you're comparing it to Sicko Mode and God's Plan which are both in top 20 of the decade for the Hot 100, where Rockstar is not.

slow dancing in the dark was literally the opposite of that lol My point with SLOW DANCING was that by the time it charted, it had peaked in streaming. It got lucky becoming a TikTok meme. I know it technically peaked on Spotify when the album released, but it was at its biggest when it was a TikTok meme and it doesn't really matter if that was luck or not. But I get the point you were trying to make and I agree with it so there's really no point in me being pedantic about your word choice, sorry

Joji quickly becoming one of those big streaming cult acts. Good for him especially considering his history on YouTube lmao. His transition from being edgy humour YouTuber to popular alt-R&B is solid as hell

Y'know if Joji and BROCKHAMPTON are able to get charting songs due to amassing a large cult fanbase, it's only a matter of time before other beloved acts finally make their way onto the Hot 100. I wouldn't be surprised if Tame Impala finally get a hit with Lost in Yesterday

I've never smiled harder than when I saw run @ 7. This might become a hit. A real, bonified hit. If that happens, everything we know about the charts will get flipped on its head. "Rock is back" is no longer a senseless fantasy. It's happening.

I think you misunderstood me, i said more relevant today (as in it gets more streams in current years than actual big singles from that period).

Y'know, given how annoying they've been the past few days, I just wanna see Yikes fall off hard so I can see all the salty Nicki stans try to claim she's being screwed over. I could see people saying "yikes" every time a song falls hard on the Hot 100 in here or on Chart Data's twitter feed, and that would provide all the necessary salt from the tears of frustrated Nicki stans.

slow dancing in the dark was literally the opposite of that lol My point with SLOW DANCING was that by the time it charted, it had peaked in streaming. It got lucky becoming a TikTok meme. It was released in september of 2018, it charted in january 2019. It had nothing first week. TikTok can not claim responsibility for the surge it had at all. It wasn't even that big of a tiktok meme to start with, it pushed it over the edge if anything. Regardless, neither SDID or Sanctuary hit this level of peak streams, and with Walking, Joji actually has radio support now, especially with run getting that level of streams.

Hey Lukas if you don't mind another question (a bit harder this time):
Again comparing two songs but they are from the year 2000.
If we get the chart performance only we will be comparing their peaks (last example song B had higher peak, song A had more longevity), but these songs are 20 years old what about the 19 years after their peak. Like you mentioned making a methodology and multiplying the sales with a factor X. X will decrease by 10% each year.
But why should the factor X decrease and not increase. What is more important peak or longevity ? (both are important, but is the peak important if one song is irrelevant now and other is still relevant).
I know i am asking this in a Hot 100 thread, don't want to make a thread for a question.
I am asking about the song that is bigger not about the song that was the bigger hit. (the second one is simple you use charts, the first one not so simple).
For example 'Till I Collapse(a song that did not chart) is more relevant today than the entire top 5 from the 2000 year end chart. Edit1: Not saying it is bigger than them but it has more longevity.
P.S. i know i used the biggest exception ('Till I Collapse) i could have ever used but i think you will understand my point.
I think the best example of peak vs longevity is Party Rock Anthem and Radioactive, two songs from the early 2010's. Some will argue that PRA is the bigger hit because of its higher peak and placement on the year-end/all-time charts, while others will argue that Radioactive is the bigger hit because of its longevity record on the charts and remaining strong after year 2 (whereas PRA faded after a strong first 2 years), eventually resulting in Radioactive outselling PRA.

Yikes is good, you guys just hate to see Nicki Minaj do a good song.
Also a few songs doing well on Spotify doesn't mean rock is back.
