This is a cover of the Cure song. It appears on the soundtrack to the new Adam Sandler-Drew Barrymore movie (I forgot the title)
I just heard it for the first time a few minutes ago. I love it. It captures the essence of the original without deriving too far from it, and at the same time, without sounding like a carbon copy. This topic might just be all for nothing, but I seriously think this should be promoted to alternative with all due expediency. Heck, with this whole movement of station going back to classic alternative songs, this might end up catching on. It's probably a longshot that it'll be released, but I just thought it should get some attention.
If anyone can find a link to the song, feel free to post it.

I haven't heard it, but they really should release it to Alternative...so I can hear it!
I was disappointed that "Beyond The Gray Sky" did nothing and I still want to hear some 311 on the air.
BTW, the new Adam Sandler movie is called "50 First Dates" which is yet another memory loss movie where Barrymore loses her memory every day which makes it hard for Adam Sandler to hold on to a relationship making every date their first, which explains the very clever title.

Eh...I'm alright with it. It's not like 311 needs to pay any dues, so The Cure should feel complemented. Not much love lost on either side.
"Beyond The Gray Sky" killed off any momentum that the Evolver album once had, and "Love Song" is already in the top 50, so so far, it seems to be paying off. It probably won't last too long though, since the soundtrack hits have not really seen much longevity over the past few years.
I still haven't heard this; 89x chose to add "Crack The Code" over this.

With the weather warming up here, this sounds really good. A good song is a good song and 311 are a good band so the original is not ruined. ...and the reggae twist only makes it more fitting with the coming of spring.

This is an excellent chill song. Whenever the weather here starts to consistently warm up, this could sound even better than it does now. Of course, despite how much I love it, I must say when put up against the original, this version doesn't hold a candle. But it seems clear that they weren't trying to top the original, which is what helps make this great. I must say, though, six weeks ago when I started this topic, I had no idea this song would be where it is now. Maybe I should start topics on alternative songs more often.

Me too, I figured this would average 40 spins per week and then slowly linger into obscurity but instead it looks to be a big hit. Apparently, "Beyond The Gray Sky" wasn't "Amber-enough" for the stations.

Interesting cover of The Cure's song. I liked their "tropical" flair to it. I just saw the video on MTV of the song.

And neither do I. It's actually my least favorite 311 single. I give it a C, which is two grades below the original song itself. They don't sound quite as much like themselves on this one, another dissapointment.
And yet it makes the top 10 because it's a Cure cover. BTW, I hope the format actually plays The Cure whenever the new album's out, and doesn't BS the people by playing this and saying that they're playing The Cure.

Pssh...expect a new Cure album to fare not even half as well as Bloodflowers. I appreciate how 311 did it in half-time. Here's a link about how 311 were perfectly fine and unsurprised with "BtGS"'s performance: www.mtv.com/news/articles/1484494/20040121/311.jhtmlI didn't realize the Cure's drummer is in the "Love Song" video. The only other male I can remember the camera focusing on long enough is the bartender...is that him?
