A shockingly quiet and slow week for "God Whispered Your Name" as Keith Urban only managed to gain 87 spins and 310k in audience staying put at #15 on the chart. Time will tell if this week was a fluke or not, but I would not be shocked if early local callout scores came back a bit negative and this song has a slow go from here.

Color me delighted that Keith has been named to host this year's ACM telecast from Nashville on Wednesday, September 16th as Country Aircheck reported 4+ hours ago. I'm not worried about this stellar song's small gain under any circumstances since no format is going to bail on a song by a format megastar unless the callout is beyond abysmal and/or the resistance from radio essentially results in a song becoming DOA airplay-wise and consequently mandated that a new single be rush-released as was the case with Taylor's 'Begin Again' after 'We Are Never....Again' bombed at country radio barely a month after its splashy chart debut.
I expect this to follow Kenny, Sam & Carrie into the top 10, and it will certainly be interesting to see how many weeks it will take for the 1,100+ gap in spins between this and "Be A Light' to evaporate.

The Speed of Now: Part One due out September 18, 2020, per Keith's social media accounts. In the promo video, he previews select tracks, one of which already sounds like it may be single-material: "Superman." Curious to learn if "God Whispered Your Name" is intended to be a one-off track or a lead single now that we have album confirmation.

I anticipate both "God Whispered Your Name" and "We Were" will both be on the album. In fact, i would be shocked if they weren't. Looking forward to the new record! I actually liked Graffiti U albeit not as much as Ripcord or Fuse. I would love it if he actually gave us something more along the lines of Defying Gravity, which to date is still my favorite Keith Urban album.

The article announcing his new album pegged "God Whispered Your Name" as the project's lead single, so I think "We Were" being on the album might be up in the air. I could see it still being tacked onto there since its not uncommon for articles to fumble over phrasing such as that, but it raised my eyebrow to see that wording.

I remembered Billboard's article mentioning God Whispered Your Name as first single. They probably fixed it.

This song has slowed to a crawl within the Top 15. After a fairly fast run into the Top 20, the barriers to higher rotation have showed up yet again for a Keith single.
Female, Coming Home (#1 but a slow, forced climb) Never Comin Down, We Were, God Whispered Her Name, have all run into resistance after fairly fast early rises. Keith has enormous good will at radio. Programmers still want to play his songs, but the fact remains most these songs just aren't good . 4 of the 5 are slow to mid tempo programmed rhythms to click tracks. Never Comin' Down probably had the most memorable Keith like hook, but the production, even with its more banjo / gango driven single remix, was just too off putting to radio. We Were is a well produced track, but it's a nice album cut, not a strong single.
It's is not as if he Is not trying at radio. They released three different versions of We Were.
Bottom line - the songs just aren't good enough (don't even get me started on Polaroid, which is just plain awful) Music preference is personal, but Keith is clearly in a radio decline and it goes beyond the typical arc in a long running career. Unlike Brad, radio still embraces Keith's singles and moves them quickly into the Top 20, but it takes more than just want to play an artist's music to convert to heavier rotation.

This one shouldn’t be struggling as much as it is. It’s connecting well in sales and streaming, and there’s nothing bad about the callout scores either. I wonder how much his age has to do with radio’s unwillingness to convert his singles past top 15 rotation as well...
This same thing happened with “We Were” – it got off to a great start, the first callout scores were *at worst* mediocre, and radio almost immediately stopped it in its tracks. The feedback grew much better over time (as it always does) but the gains did not, leading to a 30 week climb to #4. I’m afraid the same thing will happen with GWYN.

I’m upset this one is struggling because it’s my favorite Keith single in a long time! I like this more than stuff such as Never Comin Down. I find this to be a relaxing song to listen to if that makes sense so I love hearing it.

Well on the brightside Keith Urban scores another Top 10 as "God Whispered Your Name" moves up to #10.
I imagine the label is going to hold on to this song til the album release (11 weeks from this past Friday) so I wouldn't rule out a Top 5 to even a #1 but this is definitely a song that I get the vibe that country radio is not eager to play and won't have much staying power.

As I suspected for a few weeks now, UMG and Keith are moving on from this song and going to the more radio friendly Superman on Friday 7/17.

Not saying it won’t be a future single(because it is definitely possible), but until we start seeing massive negative updates for God Whispered Your Name where its clear that its been dropped, its still the current single. For now at least Superman is just a promo single for his upcoming new album

I swear, Target always seems to have bonus tracks for everybody, lol. I'm fine with it if it's one place that has an exclusive. But when multiple places have the same album but different tracks it's frustrating. Can't remember who it was a few years ago but Target had one, Wal-Mart had one, Best Buy had one, and Amazon had one. All with different bonus tracks. That is so dumb.

If Morgan Wallen would’ve left the top 10 this would’ve became his 42nd top 10 hit this week. The rate Morgan is falling which is barely at all since he remained at #5 on BB, Luke Combs will probably reach the top 10 before Keith or Tim. Not complaining at all about Luke C getting there just saying Keith and Tim both deserve top 10 with their current singles. Not to mention Keith might have pulled a first at having back to back top 10’s in consecutive weeks.

I think the label is probably gonna push this til the wheels come completely off or the album is out. That being said I imagine chart wise it has probably peaked

Happy to see both versions of We Were on the album, although i wish they weren’t back to back. But oh well i guess.
Thoughts on the 2 mystery collabs? I sure hope one of them is Carrie, i’m ready for Keith & Carrie pt 2! (Who knows, with the GWHN likely done soon, maybe it could be the next single?) Pure speculation of course, but at the very least i think one of those collabs will be from a major female star and very possibly the next radio single.
