And my second top 20 :/ This song (along with the whole Deceit album) is nearly unclassifiable, really--the post-punk banner is just the most convenient. An utterly face-melting track that gives your ears and mind a lot to explore and ruminate on. 33

Deceit is one of my favorite albums, personally, i love the nuclear apocalypse theme and the insane genre-blending all over the thing. i actually only listened to it because i found the album in a record store and thought the cover was super cool

Basically the idea behind The Fall is "your lifestyle choices are loudly questioned from every angle" (considering the use of that word, I totally understand the bottom ranks lol) 31

Yeah I’ll be honest- the use of that word definitely turned me off from this song. Either way, I just wasn’t really a fan of this song and didn’t like how it sounded.

I never really cared for Warm Leatherette from the couple of times I've heard it in various rankdowns/tournaments, but this This Heat song was really good. Makes me want to listen to more from them

I haven't posted "extras" for a rankdown in a long time. Since I don't think this rankdown will be receiving a Part 2, though, it seems like the right time to bring the concept back. I wanted to highlight a bunch of bands I had to cut for the sake of keeping the rankdown short and retaining its competitive balance. I don't think any of these bands have ever been mentioned in the Games forum before, though I didn't conduct an extensive search. I have 40 songs prepared to post, and they'll arrive in groups of 10 after each set. Les Savy Fav - "Hold On to Your Genre" The Ex + Tom Cora - "State of Shock" The Futureheads - "The Beginning of the Twist" The Scientists - "We Had Love" Dog Faced Hermans - "Jan 9" Kleenex/LiLiPUT - "Die Matrosen" Егор и Опизденевшие - "Вечная весна" Kult - "Polska" Rudimentary Peni - "The Horrors in the Museum" Asylum Party - "Play Alone"

Nice to see you finally got this one rolling. First night of reveals and I didn't lose any top 10's. Which means melodic oriented songs were not tanked tonight. 40. Звезда по имени Солнце - KinoI didn't realize I had previewed the wrong song until try #3. The vocals were the most interesting part. It just doesn't develope musically enough. 39. Jocko Homo - DEVOIs it safe to say PULSE just doesn't get DEVO. I wanna guess this only settled in your pleasant listening archives if you grew up on what once was a cool KROQ radio station. 38. Contort Yourself - James Chance and the ContortionsFunny enough the music was DEVO quirky but the vocals were not DEVO cool. 37. She Is Beyond Good And Evil - The Pop GroupEven tho it was kinda all over the place I still kinda dug the early New Wave vibe. Especially with the bass lines. I kinda forgave the offputting vocal tones. 36. 30 Seconds Over Tokyo - Pere UbuThe intro of this song felt like trek to no where. Forget the how bad the vocals were. It's the music that tuned me out. 35. Typical Girls - The SlitsI thought the band's name was kinda risque, but I liked that. The music was pretty cool. I just wish the vocals were more harmonious. Not as bad as Bjork, but still kinda rough. 34. Jezu jak Się Cieszę - Klaus MitffochAnother one I had trouble finding on Youtube. Again it's not the vocals, but the vocal delivery that wasn't singing to me. The best part was what I think is the chorus which features more vocals at a time. I would have ranked it higher if that same vocal scheme was used all the way through. 33. Makeshift Swahili - This HeatThis was a clear tank job for someone like me who craves upbeat melodies. Didn't get it vocally nor musically. 32. Eine Symphonie Des Grauens - The Monochrome SetSomething about this song flowed nicely through my ear buds. The vocals were smooth, and the music was like snake charming style. Whatever that might mean its what I got from it. 31. The Classical - The FallThe vocals delivery weighed this down for me. Was he saying "Hey there F U C K face"? No thanks. I'll check out some of your extras on my own time and review certain standout songs.

{I KNOW THERE WASN'T A LOT OF SONGS REVEALED, BUT WORD WALLING'S JUST MY THING NOW}#40: Pretty expected #40, really. This RD was super tough from top to (almost) bottom, and this was no exception. Something had to be near the bottom here. #39: Pretty much Devo's calling card song, but I simply don't like it the same way that I do "Uncontrollable Urge". #38: This song is wild. There's, like, five or so songs that I have in this range that I really don't like ranking as low as I did, and this is one of them. #37: "Western values" More like "Eastern values". That makes absolutely no sense. This was my least favorite song in a gates rankdown, so it's still fine. I just thought it was a bit too janky. #36: "There's, like, five or so songs that I have in this range that I really don't like ranking as low as I did, and this is one of them." This would be a fantastic Crazy addition. #35: To emphasize how good gates rankdowns tend to be, in an average rankdown, this would not be in my bottom ten. #34: Oh damn, my first non-bottom ten. This was nice, really dug the guitar riffs, but not quite the best foreign language song here. #33: And speaking of "a fantastic Crazy addition", good lord, this is so abrasive. I felt a twinge of Daughters when I listened to this, and I don't think that was a coincidence. #32: This sounded really nice, but at least 2/3 of this RD "sounded really nice". #31: Yeah, I will admit that I was a bit turned off by what you mentioned, but it's definitely not a bad song otherwise.
