Pppppppp
I've ranked Joy Division kinda low in the past so it's cool that I had a chance to put them top 10 here, this song rules

:( ... This song reminds me of my mom. She likes to listen to the radio every morning and I always hear this song a lot. It’s just so good.

Your final 2.
A Night Like This This Modern Love
Tale of the Tape: This was the top 2 for 11 movements non-consecutively These 2 songs spent a combined 15 movements at #1. One was in the pole position for 9 lists, the other for 6 lists. They ended up 9 points apart after a close battle the whole way. These songs have a combined 24 top 10s, 16 being top 5s and 5 being #1s. 2 bottom 20s remain. Only 1 player can get a perfect top 2: @trilogy. Everyone has at least 1 top 10 left.

Everything I've heard off of Silent Alarm has been awesome, I really need to give it a listen in full one day
Also, thanks for hosting Gates! This was great fun even if I'm awful at predicting literally anything lol

10. Destination - The ChurchPretty good song. band has great vocals. 9. Christine - Siouxsie and the BansheesNot sure what you all thought I was going to put at #1, but it sure wasn't any of the other songs. Anyway, I 'm pretty sure "Peak a Boo" will probably win the Alt RD, but I wanted this one to win here. Damn! How did this not win? I'll be asking myself this questions for years to come. 8. Making Plans For Nigel - XTC Another 80's classic that occupies my top 3. THis and "Senses Working Overtime" are my favorites from this band. 7. Cities - Talking HeadsI like this song. Another classic. Has those perfect 70's vocals. At some points during the song his vocal delivery reminds me of some of the more Quirky Ric Ocasek deliveries as well. 6. Twenty Four Hours - Joy DivisionA Joy Division song I never liked. One was bound to show up sooner or later. 5. Radio Free Europe - R.E.M.Funny thing is I remember hearing this I just never knew who sang it before. I would say one of their best songs. 4. Up the Down Escalator - The ChameleonsYou all probably know more about this band than I do. I just thought the song was perfect 80's New Wave. 3. Love Like Blood - Killing JokeDamn another fierce classic. Vocally majestic. I thought this one would win for sure? Looks like The Cure will take it? 2. A Night Like This - The CureWOW! The Cure didn't win, and this was a great song too? I guess that's ok. They kinda should be retired from RDs for a while to give other songs a chance anyway. 1. This Modern Love - Bloc PartyI didn't think this particular Bloc Party song was that great. Where is all the fierce guitar play I usually love from this band? This sounded more like lite Bloc Party. Good vocals but too tame for me. singingrulebritanniaGreat job man. Good ride down memory lane too. I've even D/L some of your posted extras for archives use. The first three you posted tonight were pretty cool with Mo-Dettes - "White Mice" being my favorite for that early New wave vibes. Got a bit of The Waitresses sound. very cool.

{WELL, WHENEVER I CAME BACK, YOU PROBABLY KNEW THIS WORD WALL WAS COMING}#20: If anything, I'm glad you joined me in the top five, gates. This is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. I fell in love with it when I first listened to it, and revisiting it for this rankdown, I fell for it even more. This is basically The National before The National was even a thing, and it's doing The National just about better than The National have ever done it. #19: Get ready for an old classic: "Marquee Moon", this isn't. #18: There's a couple of songs in this rankdown that I have heard before that I came around to for this one. There's one extreme example here, but this is a more modest example. Listening to "Public Image" for this RD gave me a deeper appreciation for it. #17: My favorite discovery in a rankdown full of great discoveries. For lack of a better phrase, this just sounds great. It's simple, but being simple does not have to be a bad thing. #16: I thought this went out already...instead, it's a one off. #15: I don't know why, but this wound up being better than I expected. I guess it's because I just remember listening to Wire songs that, well, weren't this. #14: This was almost in my bottom ten. Almost. Then, I listened to it again, and I started hearing what a lot of people have heard in the song previously. There's so much energy here. I'm willing to bet that, if I listened to this song five more times, I'd love it. #13: Perfecto, but also, holy crap, I thought this was making the top ten. #12: And speaking of songs I thought were making the top ten... #11: It didn't do better than "Rock Lobster" did in the 70's RD, AND I knocked it out of the top ten last second, so fine.
#10: My lowest remaining in a phenomenal top ten. Not quite the best Church song, but just about. #9: Red ranked Siouxsie high, whaaaaat This isn't one of my favorite Siouxsie songs, but, I mean, it's PRIME SIOUXSIE. What did you think I was going to do here? #8: Remember this? "There's a couple of songs in this rankdown that I have heard before that I came around to for this one. There's one extreme example here" This is the extreme example. I did not care for this all that much for a while, and as someone who likes XTC a lot, it seems to surprise people that also like XTC when I mentioned that I didn't care for "Nigel" as much as some of their other songs. I came around to "Nigel" in a big way, though, and I probably should have seen it coming. It's not "Senses", but not much is, and once I stopped comparing XTC's other songs to "Senses", I started loving them more and more, none moreso than "Nigel". #7: This top ten is going pretty much the way I expected, with all of my big rooting interests going out early. "Cities" is in my top ten of Talking Heads songs, so that probably says more than anything else could. #6: The bright side is that I only have top tens in the top five now. I really don't get why Joy Division is so divisive on Pulse (heh, funny wording there). They're almost always great. #5: Holy freaking crap, how is this not top three? What?! #4: Seriously, though, The Chameleons are great, and I hope that their songs that have been in rankdowns so far give people incentive to check them out. #3: I struggled hard with my #2 choice, giving the edge to "Nigel" because of how much it had won me over recently, but "Love Like Blood" is freaking incredible. It continues to get better with every listen.
What a boring-ass (but still good) top two.
#2: It speaks volumes as to how good the Cure discography is that this wouldn't come close to making my top ten favorite Cure songs. It STILL made the top ten here, because it's 80's Cure. It's almost always fantastic. #1: For what it's worth, I went back to listen to this song recently, and...even though I already ranked it top ten, I may have actually underranked it. I think I've just struggled with looking past the "big three" of Silent Alarm over the years, and every other song on the album has struggled to match my love for "Helicopter", "Banquet", and "Like Eating Glass". If I just look past that struggle, I'm able to see that "This Modern Love" is one of the best songs of its kind released in the 2000s. It's unfair to treat it the way I have just because it's not an even better song from the 2000's. Sorry about the lateness, singingrulebritannia, but I'm sure that you'll appreciate me saying that this was yet another awesome rankdown hosted.
