Lil Uzi Vert Set for Second Week at No. 1 on Billboard 200 Albums Chart 3/17/2020 by Keith Caulfield
Plus: Niall Horan & Don Toliver aiming for top 10 debuts.
After Lil Uzi Vert’s Eternal Atake made a smashing debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with the second-largest week of 2020, industry forecasters suggest the album is set for a second big week atop the tally. Those in the know indicate the album could earn over 225,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. in the week ending March 19. The album opened at No. 1 with 288,000 units tallied in the week ending March 12, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data.
The set’s striking second-week figure will be bolstered by streaming activity earned by the album’s deluxe reissue on March 13. The deluxe edition included an additional 14 tracks, boasting many guest artists, including Future, Young Thug and Gunna. (All versions of the album will be combined together for tracking and charting purposes.) The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week based on multi-metric consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The top 10 of the March 28-dated Billboard 200 chart (where Eternal Atake could hold at No. 1) is scheduled to be revealed on Billboard’s website on Sunday, March 22. Elsewhere on next week’s chart, watch out for top 10 debuts from Niall Horan’s second solo album, Heartbreak Weather, and Don Tolliver’s debut studio effort, Heaven or Hell. The former could launch with around 55,000 equivalent album units earned, while the latter is on course for a start of around 40,000 or more.

Lil Uzi Vert’s ‘Eternal Atake’ Spends Second Week at No. 1 on Billboard 200 Albums Chart 3/22/2020 by Keith Caulfield
Plus: Niall Horan & Don Toliver debut in top 10. Lil Uzi Vert’s Eternal Atake secures a second week at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, as the set earned 247,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. in the week ending March 19, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data. That’s down just 14% compared to its debut atop the list a week ago with 288,000 units.
The small second-week decline is owed to the album’s surprise reissue on March 13, when a new deluxe edition arrived with 14 additional songs, expanding upon the original 18-song set. (All versions of the album are combined together for tracking and charting purposes.)
The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption as measured in equivalent album units. Units comprise album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The new March 28-dated chart, where Eternal Atake holds at No. 1, will be posted in full on Billboard's website on March 24. Eternal Atake is the first album to spend its first two weeks at No. 1 since Harry Styles’ Fine Line held at No. 1 for its first two frames on the charts dated Dec. 28, 2019 and Jan. 4, 2020.
How Producer Bugz Ronin Helped Lil Uzi Vert's 'Eternal Atake' Album Reach Intergalactic Heights Eternal Atake would have most likely held at No. 1 for a second week without the help of its deluxe reissue. Even if the album had declined by 70% in its second week, it still would have ranked ahead of the chart’s No. 2 album, Lil Baby’s former No. 1 My Turn (77,000 units). The latter set climbs two rungs, despite a 27% decline in units for the week.Bad Bunny’s YHLQMDLG is a non-mover at No. 3 with 69,000 equivalent album units earned (down 38%).
Niall Horan’s sophomore effort Heartbreak Weather debuts at No. 4, securing the pop singer-songwriter his second solo top five-charting album. It arrives with 59,000 equivalent album units earned, with 42,000 of that sum in album sales (making it the top-selling album of the week). The set got an assist from a concert ticket/album sale redemption offer with his upcoming tour, as well as an assortment of merchandise/album bundles sold via his webstore.
Heartbreak Weather also starts at No. 1 on the Top Album Sales chart, marking Horan’s second leader on the list, following his debut album, Flicker. Flicker bowed at No. 1 on the Nov. 11, 2017-dated Billboard 200 chart with 152,000 units. Of that sum, 128,000 were in album sales (again, aided by a ticket/album sale redemption offer).
Jhené Aiko’s Chilombo falls from No. 2 to No. 5 in its second week (56,000 units; down 63%) and Roddy Ricch’s former leader Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial is steady at No. 6 (49,000 units; down 14%).
Don Toliver’s debut studio album Heaven or Hell arrives at No. 7 with 44,000 equivalent album units earned (with 3,000 of that sum in album sales, aided by merchandise/album bundle offerings). It’s the first charting album for the rapper and singer, who released the Donny Womack mixtape in 2018. Heaven or Hell, released through Cactus Jack/Atlantic Records, also marks the fourth top 10 album for Cactus Jack. It follows the self-titled Jackboys project (No. 1 earlier in 2020), label chief Travis Scott’s Astroworld (No. 1, 2018) and Huncho Jack’s Huncho Jack, Jack Huncho (No. 3, 2018). Post Malone’s former No. 1 Hollywood’s Bleeding slips from No. 7 to No. 8 (42,000 equivalent album units; down 19%) while Justin Bieber’s fellow former leader Changes is a non-mover at No. 9 (36,000 units; down 24%).
Closing out the new top 10 is the soundtrack to Frozen II, which climbs 18-10 with 31,000 equivalent album units earned (up 12%). The former No. 1 album rebounds thanks to the early release of its parent film to digital retail and rental services, as well as the Disney+ streaming platform (on March 14). In a statement, Disney announced the film’s accelerated digital release -- three months earlier than scheduled -- “for families during these challenging times.” The film’s digital arrival was likely warmly embraced by families and kids in self-quarantine owed to the coronavirus pandemic.

'Frozen II' Early Digital Release Brought Soundtrack Back to Top 10 on Billboard 200 Chart 3/22/2020 by Keith Caulfield
The soundtrack to Frozen II returns to the top 10 on the Billboard 200 chart for the first time in two months thanks to the film’s early arrival to digital retail and rental services, as well as the Disney+ streaming platform (on March 14).
The former No. 1 album rebounds with an 18-10 jump on the list, earning 31,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. in the week ending March 19, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data. The set was last in the top 10 on the Jan. 25-dated list, when it ranked at No. 8.
The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption as measured in equivalent album units. Units comprise album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The new March 28-dated chart, where Frozen II jumps 1810 (and Lil Uzi Vert’s Eternal Atake holds at No. 1), will be posted in full on Billboard's website on March 24. Eternal Atake probably had the 9th biggest streaming week ever and the second best non-debut streaming week and still Billboard's article had no SEA/streaming numbers for EA. Tragic.

Um yeah, they didn't even provide a breakdown of the SPS number for the #1 album.
How many pure sales did it have? How much SEA units??
Can someone send him an e-mail and ask to edit the info in...

It's with 32 tracks compared to 18 last week, I can very well see why it was not worth noting.

Among the non-debuting albums in Top Album Sales, only My Turn, No Future , Romance and A Lover Letter to You 4 showed weekly gains.

Sales are estimated to be in the 7,000-7,500 range. HITS is showing a 15.7% decline from last week, and I’m giving the sales a bottom end of 8,500 units based on Billboard’s vague report.

As record stores were forced to close up shop last week due to coronavirus concerns, and music fans became preoccupied with social distancing and quarantine, U.S. album sales hit a new weekly low.
In the week ending March 19, overall album sales fell 29% to 1.52 million, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data. That number combines sales of all formats of albums: digital albums, CDs, vinyl LPs, cassettes and so forth.
1.52 million is the smallest number of albums sold in a week since the firm began tracking music sales in 1991. The previous Nielsen/MRC Data-era low for overall album sales came only earlier this year, when 1.65 million were sold in the week ending Jan. 16.
And Billboard estimates 1.52 million is perhaps the smallest sum for total weekly album sales since albums began to take off as a format in the mid-1960s.
Weekly Physical Album Sales Dip Below 1 Million:
Further, physical album sales (CDs, vinyl LPs and cassettes, etc.) declined by 36% in the week ending March 19, falling to just 979,000 copies sold -- the first time weekly physical album sales fell below 1 million in the Nielsen Music/MRC Data era.
The previous low-water mark for weekly physical album sales (since 1991) came less than a year ago, when 1.05 million were sold in the week ending July 11, 2019. Again, weekly physical album sales likely have not been this low since the mid-1960s.
In 2019, overall album sales totaled 112.75 million (down 18.7% compared to 2018). It was the lowest year for album sales in the Nielsen Music/MRC Data era, and the fourth year in a row where album sales fell by at least 10%. So far in 2020, album sales stand at 21.52 million (down 8.3% year-to-date), while physical album sales stand at 14.74 million sold (up 1.9% -- buoyed by strong vinyl album sales). Fans Continue to Favor Streaming Over Album Purchases:
Album sales have been on the decline for years, since their heyday in the late 1990s and early 2000s, when it was common for more than 10 million albums to be sold in a single week.
Music of course is still incredibly popular -- as are albums (and vinyl albums, but more on that in a moment). However, more and more fans have moved away from buying individual albums and instead choose to enjoy music and albums through streaming services such as Apple Music, Spotify and YouTube. There, a customer can either subscribe to an all-you-can-listen service for one monthly fee, or opt to listen to music without a subscription (and listen to advertisements in-between songs).
Comparatively, in 2019, overall on-demand streams of songs (audio and video combined) grew by 29.3%, surpassing the 1 trillion mark for the first time in a calendar year. In total for 2019, there were 1.147 trillion on-demand song streams registered. In 2020, on-demand streams of songs total 267.75 billion (up 19.7% year-to-date).
But Vinyl Album Sales Continue to Shine: Though overall album sales are tumbling, and streaming continues to go through the roof, the once nearly-dead vinyl album format continues to be a bright spot in an otherwise bleak album sales picture.
2019 marked the 14th consecutive year of growth for vinyl album sales, climbing to 18.84 million sold (up 14.5% compared to 2018). In fact, vinyl LP sales accounted for 16.7% of all album sales in 2019, and an incredible 25.6% of physical album sales (a Nielsen Music/MRC Data-era record share for the format).
So far in 2020, total vinyl album sales stand at 4.88 million (up 42.2% year-to-date). Further, vinyl album sales comprise 22.6% of all albums sold in 2020, and 33% of all physical albums sold.
