While I’d consider Alice in Chains my least favorite out of the big grunge era of the early 90’s, I’ve really come around on them over the last year or two.
Probably because a lot of you gave me crap for not being a big fan of them in the past and well... I damn well deserved it haha. They’re a very solid overall band and I enjoyed this song as I believe a first listen despite ranking it in the middle area.
This peaked on Alt at #27 in 1993. Obviously, they’ve had more success on Active, but still a respectively good run on Alt with a bunch of hits. Other songs that I could have chosen were… surprisingly “Again” (peaked at #36 in 1996), “A Looking in View” (#38 in 2009), and “Them Bones” (#30 in 1992).
Congrats to macattack and wheatsquares33 for finally clearing your Bottom 10s.

We’ve made it to the Top 5! There is a big separation from “Angry Chair” as #5 is 25 points higher. This song also has the lowest SD on the rankdown.

I am personally super happy that this song made the Top 5. I’ve been a big fan of it since it came out and was glad that it could be placed in a rankdown since it was never big enough to make any year-end list. I also loved Cave In’s next single from this album, “Inspire.”
This band is still around and had an album come out last year. Although, it didn’t sound anything like this song as I’ve put it more of the post-hardcore/alt-metal/space rock variety. Not bad if that kind of sound is your thing to check out.
As the only song ever to chart on Alt, “Anchor” peaked at #34 back in 2003. Interesting though that none us actually ranked it Top 5.

Five points up is #4. Four Top 5s will be lost and unfortunately one of them is a #1. This was #1 for a brief period and never left the Top 5.

From the moment I heard this song back in 2006 while in college, I was freaking hooked and instantly became a big fan of Anberlin. To be honest, since I listened to this rankdown’s list, I’ve returned to this song quite a few times because it’s just so damn good. I maybe should have made it my #1 over Brand New.
This was the only song that I could have chosen from Anberlin as the others that didn’t reach the Top 20 were released after 2009. Surprisingly, this only peaked at #38, but I remember hearing this on the local Alt station in Orlando where I went to college a lot. Some of the band members also previously went to UCF like me and lived an hour away in Lakeland, so they were kind of local I guess.
Condolences to rowellfarm490 for losing your #1.

#3 is nine points higher than “Paperthin Hymn,” but it really opens up more when we get to our Top 2. Basically, it was clear most of the way that #1 was going to be one of the two songs.
Someone unfortunately does lose their #1. Also, the final person who hasn’t cleared their Bottom 10 finally does so here.

If you recall, I originally had “Stranger Than Fiction” as my pick for Bad Religion on this rankdown list, but realized that “Infected” could also work. Seems like everyone liked that decision better as the results show. I was pretty sure that this would be our #1, but it came up 18 points short in the end.
Amazingly, while it was overall ranked high, no one ranked it #1. I can sense a lot of happy faces as some of you might know what the overall #1 is already before I post it ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)
This song peaked at #27 on the Alt chart in 1995. Other choices could have been as said before “Stranger Than Fiction” (#28 in 1994), “Sorrow” (#35 in 2002), “A Walk” (#34 in 1996), and “Los Angeles is Burning” (#40 in 2004). Any of these would have been in my Top 10 as I’m a massive Bad Religion fan.

That ends the first rankdown for the Forgotten 90s & 00s Alt Songs series! Thank you a ton to the nine of you that participated. Hope that you all enjoyed it.
Maybe you revived some songs that you forgot about from the past or heard some that you were hoping to forget forever. It was a fun nostalgic trip for me personally as I hadn't heard some of those songs in literally 20+ years. It was especially a great Top 10 and quite a lot of rankings surprised me of how high or low that they finished.
I will post the second rankdown of this series literally after I post this message. Hope that some people have interest in that one as well. Thank you, everyone!
