1. Who will be #1? Competition is going to be tough, and most of the obvious frontrunners will have tankers! Reba would thrill me, but she is likely to have some low rankings to cancel out all her super high rankings. I could see Dolly winning too; she will have less top 5 ranks, but the "tankers" will likely only have her near the middle, meaning she will get higher than several other artists who are more likely to be polarizing. 2. Who will be #40? Probably Sam Hunt. Definitely felt like a bit of an outlier on a list of icons like this... 3. Who will be in the Top 5? Reba, Dolly. Sara will probably be a top 5 contender, even if she gets some people who tank her just to prevent her from winning. I would LOVE to see George Strait make it, but he might be a little too "country" for this participant list Not sure who else... Better not be Kacey ;) Maybe Alan Jackson? 4. Who will be in the bottom 5? Sam, Willie, probably Garth (even though he doesn't deserve it). Maybe Darius Rucker? Blake Shelton? 5. Which 90s artist will do best in this rankdown? Depends on who you define as a '90s artist. People who STARTED in the '90s and were really hot for most of the decade? I think that will be a pretty good battle between Martina and Tim! Alan Jackson would contend too, but he technically started in the '80s. 6. There are two people named George in this rankdown (George Jones and George Strait). Who will do better? Strait for sure, since he's younger and more familiar to many on Pulse. 7. Who's the most polarizing? Least? Most: Kenny Rogers, Eric Church, Garth Brooks, maybe Toby Keith. Least: Sam Hunt, Dolly Parton, Dixie Chicks. 8. Which country couple (Tim and Faith, Garth and Trisha, George and Tammy) will do better overall and who among each couple will do better? Tim & Faith will do better overall. Tim will do better than Faith, Trisha will do better than Garth, and George and Tammy will be close, but I'll give it to Tammy just because she's female! 9. Who will do better, Carrie Underwood or Garth Brooks? What a question. OBVIOUSLY Carrie. Garth is too vilified on Pulse to beat one of their biggest sweethearts! 10. Who would you prefer to see do best? MARTINA!!!!!!!! 11. Any other thoughts/predictions? A better question for #9 would have been who will do better between Carrie/Martina, as the two biggest belters on this list (who are of course constantly pitted against each other by fans). And that battle will be tough! By now it seems to be pretty well-established that Martina is a stronger technical vocalist, and more consistent albums artist, but Carrie is the bigger superstar with the more impressive high range. I think it will be pretty split as far as who gets more high ranks, so I am perched to see who does better!!! I am going to tentatively give the edge to Martina. She genuinely seems to be regarded as a well-liked artist with a helluva voice; usually when people complain about her it is due to individual song choices rather than disliking her as an artist. So with song choices stripped out of the equation, I have a feeling that her tankers are not going to be as extreme. Carrie is more likely to get tanked by people who find her tone grating/harsh, or who vote her lower for consistently churning out music that is too poppy for them. I expect both to be top 15 though, if not top 10!

1. Who will be #1? Dolly because I don't think she has any tankers
2. Who will be #40? Rascal Flatts because they will have many tankers (I hope)
3. Who will be in the Top 5? Dolly Parton, Reba McEntire, Sara Evans, Dixie Chicks, Shania Twain
4. Who will be in the bottom 5? Rascal Flatts, Sam Hunt, Darius Rucker, Blake Shelton, Chris Stapleton
5. Which 90s artist will do best in this rankdown? I don't know whether people will consider the "country" part in the rankdown heavily, but Shania Twain fits the "icon" part the most.
6. There are two people named George in this rankdown (George Jones and George Strait). Who will do better? George Strait because of familiarity, and one super fan will offset the tanker in the participants list.
7. Who's the most polarizing? Least? Most: Eric Church, Toby Keith, Willie Nelson Least: Dolly Parton, Luke Combs, Trisha Yearwood
8. Which country couple (Tim and Faith, Garth and Trisha, George and Tammy) will do better overall and who among each couple will do better? Tim and Faith. Faith>Tim; Trisha>Garth; Tammy>George
9. Who will do better, Carrie Underwood or Garth Brooks? Garth tbh. But it will be close.
10. Who would you prefer to see do best? George Jones, Willie Nelson and Tammy Wynette better be top half because they are legitimately legends. Maybe Eric Church and Chris Stapleton also.

1. Who will be #1? Maybe Dolly...so hard to say though. Dolly, Reba, Carrie, all have a great shot imo
2. Who will be #40? Sam Hunt or George Jones
3. Who will be in the Top 5? Dolly, Reba, Sara, Martina, Carrie
4. Who will be in the bottom 5? Sam Hunt, Rascal Flatts, George Jones, Darius Rucker, Chris Stapleton
5. Which 90s artist will do best in this rankdown? A lot of these are 90's artists...Dolly or Reba probably, maybe Martina or Sara
6. There are two people named George in this rankdown (George Jones and George Strait). Who will do better? Strait
7. Who's the most polarizing? Least? Most - Shania Twain Least - Sam Hunt (most will rank him low)
8. Which country couple (Tim and Faith, Garth and Trisha, George and Tammy) will do better overall and who among each couple will do better? Overall - Tim & Faith (Faith will do better than Tim); the females will do better than the males in every couple
9. Who will do better, Carrie Underwood or Garth Brooks? Carrie
10. Who would you prefer to see do best? Overall Reba - but out of Carrie and Garth, Garth (he has made so many more contributions to country music than she has, though I like them both a lot)
11. Any other thoughts/predictions? On Pulse, we could see an all female top 10; Sara Evans will probably be higher than she would be in terms of her impact as an artist

5. Which 90s artist will do best in this rankdown? A lot of these are 90's artists...Dolly or Reba probably, maybe Martina or Sara I think the host means artists originated from the 90s?

Still laughing at some of these artists being included in a country icon list but I get why they were picked and a ton of actual icons left out. Familiarity and recency bias informed the list and I have to assume will inform the results for the most part. Since I assume Most will rank based on their preferences rather than who is iconic (which I did too) I don’t think Sam Hunt will do as bad as some people are predicting. He’s decently liked on the board so despite him not really being an icon, I think he survives the bottom 5.
Willie Nelson who’s probably top 5 if ranking on legacy and impact or iconically wis probably in danger of going out first.
As for other predictions I’m on my phone and am lazy to quote lol

9. Who will do better, Carrie Underwood or Garth Brooks? What a question. OBVIOUSLY Carrie. Garth is too vilified on Pulse to beat one of their biggest sweethearts! to be fully honest I'm the one who came up with the question, I meant it to be a bit sarcastic since OBVIOUSLY I knew (redacted because I know the results lmao) I was originally going to ask who would do better, Carrie or Miranda, and I cite the bitter rivalry between the Karens and Jans of their respective Instagram/Facebook fandoms (you know, the jealousy that Miranda has TONS of ACMs, some of which she received when her year's resume wasn't the best, and Carrie's side accusing Miranda of not being fit to be a FVOTY winner--which is just laughable ). In hindsight, I honestly should've asked that, so if y'all wanna predict that instead, you can! I think the host means artists originated from the 90s? Yeah I'm not sure. Originated, or was prominent during. Hi. I came up with the questions. I should've clarified; my thought process is that a 90s artist originated in the 90s. So people like Alan and Reba wouldn't count since Reba's career started in the 70s and Alan started in the 80s.

1. Who will be #1?Dolly Parton and Reba McEntire are good guesses. 2. Who will be #40?Sam Hunt. 3. Who will be in the Top 5?Dolly, Reba, Sara, Johnny and then maybe Carrie or Miranda? I think Loretta and Kacey will be close though. 4. Who will be in the bottom 5?Sam Hunt, Blake Shelton, Toby Keith, Rascal Flatts & Pam Tillis EDIT: I can't believe I forgot to mention Darius Rucker. 5. Which 90s artist will do best in this rankdown?Britney. 6. There are two people named George in this rankdown (George Jones and George Strait). Who will do better?George Strait will end up 13 places above George Jones. 7. Who's the most polarizing? Least?Taylor Swift & Eric Church for most polarizing. Sam Hunt & Lorrie Morgan for least polarizing. 8. Which country couple (Tim and Faith, Garth and Trisha, George and Tammy) will do better overall and who among each couple will do better? It all depends on how Trisha and George will do. Garth is probably gonna be the highest placing of these 6 artists. 9. Who will do better, Carrie Underwood or Garth Brooks?I saw this before reading taylor 's post and I was like: Carrie vs Garth? Why not the classic Carrie vs Miranda duel? Anyways, Carrie will do better but Garth is going to be only ~5 places behind. 10. Who would you prefer to see do best? The ones I ranked high, duh! 11. Any other thoughts/predictions?Someone's gonna boardicide after the reveals but they will claim this rankdown had nothing to do with it

1. Who will be #1?
I think this will be between Reba, Dolly, or George Strait. Sara Evans is definitely a possibility even if I don't think she should be.
2. Who will be #40?
to me it should be Luke Combs because he is the one who has contributed the least to the genre thus far. That being said I do think it will be between Rascal Flatts, Sam Hunt, or Blake Shelton. I could also see Darius Rucker and Chris Stapleton be in contention as well.
3. Who will be in the Top 5?
as much as I want Martina to be Top 5 I would be shocked if she made it. I think she'll be top 10 though, if she isn't I'm blocking anyone who ranked her in their bottom 10 lol! ...JK...maybe!
I do think Reba, Dolly, and George Strait will be in the top 5. I do think Sara Evans and Dixie Chicks have a strong chance to be top 5
4. Who will be in the bottom 5?
Most likely the 5 I mentioned for the #40 spot. Though I could see one or two of them barely escaping and Willie, Toby, and Tanya being that low (though none of them deserve to be bottom 5!!!
5. Which 90s artist will do best in this rankdown?
probably Sara Evans or the Dixie Chicks, though I want it to be Martina McBride the most. Maybe Faith Hill could surprise us. Am hoping Patty Loveless and Pam Tillis do well as two of my favorites.
6. There are two people named George in this rankdown (George Jones and George Strait). Who will do better?
George Strait easily. I will be surprised if George Jones makes the Top 10 (though he should EASILY be there!)
7. Who's the most polarizing? Least?
MOST: Sara Evans, Willie Nelson, Carrie Underwood, Martina McBride LEAST: Sam Hunt, Rascal Flatts, Chris Stapleton, Reba McEntire, Dolly Parton
8. Which country couple (Tim and Faith, Garth and Trisha, George and Tammy) will do better overall and who among each couple will do better?
Better Overall: Tim and Faith (I think both will be top 15 minimum)
Tim and Faith: I think Faith will do better than Tim though I think it will be close
Garth and Trisha: Garth will be bottom 10 most likely, whereas I see Trisha being Top 20
George and Tammy: I'm not really sure here. I think female bias could help Tammy get higher but I would choose George Jones to be higher personally
9. Who will do better, Carrie Underwood or Garth Brooks?
Garth SHOULD be easily ahead of Carrie just in terms of how much he has done in his career. However he'll be bottom 10 cause some hate him so much and Carrie is more loved than disliked on here.
10. Who would you prefer to see do best?
Martina, Patty, and Pam are easily my 3 favorites on this list. One of which barely made my top 20 because I didn't rank this list fully on my personal preferences. I ranked based on a combo of personal preference and who I felt contributed the most to the genre.
11. Any other thoughts/predictions?
Based on how I ranked and my feelings towards this list I feel like any artist from the last 10-15 years should be eliminated in the bottom 20 easily. While I like artist like Kacey Musgraves, Carrie Underwood, Dierks Bentley, Eric Church, Lady Antebellum, Miranda Lambert, Taylor Swift, and Luke Combs, I do think they all have more to prove to contend with the artist from the 90s and before. I do think that Miranda, Carrie, and Dierks are at that point where they are almost at that point I still feel odd putting them in the next tier of Country Icons.
Artist that I feel bad about my ranking include Miranda, Eric, Dierks, Carrie, Sara, Little Big Town, and Brad. They are all great artist but just compared to the other artist they ended up lower on my list. Ugh I am already hating my list lol. I put my list together in one try and never edited it. Now that I'm looking at it there are a few rankings I wish I could change.
Also Taylor Swift should be Bottom 5, I know she won't be but she should be. I just feel like she contributed very little to Country as she went Pop after what 5 years of being Country (I won't argue about whether her music was ever Country or not, that is not what I'm looking at in any way). If the bottom 5 was how I want it to be it would be between Taylor, Luke Combs, Chris Stapleton, Kacey Musgraves, Darius Rucker, and Sam Hunt. I know some of those are not going to be popular opinions but that is how I feel when looking at this list.

1. Who will be #1?I'm thinking Dolly but Reba and George Strait seem like strong choices too. 2. Who will be #40?Sam Hunt 3. Who will be in the Top 5?Dolly Parton, Reba, George Strait, Sara Evans (because Pulse) aaand I don't know who the fifth one might be... 4. Who will be in the bottom 5?Sam Hunt, Blake Shelton, Darius Rucker, Rascal Flatts, aaand I don't know the fifth one yet again lol 5. Which 90s artist will do best in this rankdown?Sara Evans 6. There are two people named George in this rankdown (George Jones and George Strait). Who will do better?George Strait 7. Who's the most polarizing? Least? Most polarizing: Taylor Swift, Kacey Musgraves, Eric Church Least polarizing: Reba McEntire, Dolly Parton, Sam Hunt, Rascal Flatts 8. Which country couple (Tim and Faith, Garth and Trisha, George and Tammy) will do better overall and who among each couple will do better?Tim/Faith will probably do the best and then Faith, Trisha, and George for which will do better in each couple. 9. Who will do better, Carrie Underwood or Garth Brooks?taylor definitely chose Garth Brooks because she knew Carrie would handily win within a Pulse demographic! Carrie. 10. Who would you prefer to see do best? This is a hard question to answer because on one hand I would love to see who are typically regarded as icons of country music (Reba, Dolly, both Georges, Johnny Cash etc. etc.) but on the other hand if I'm looking at who I like the most then my preferences do lean somewhat new just because of how and when I got into country music. So I guess a balance here would be nice (at least for me)? 11. Any other thoughts/predictions?I just hope Taylor doesn't get done too dirty just because while she's definitely on the newer end and she's moved over to pop, I think one of her bigger legacies is the impact she had internationally and bringing country music to audiences who didn't grow up around country music which is a bit of a different legacy than a lot of the artists here. It might be my stan sunglasses and how I got into country music (this is exactly how I got into country music) that's clouding my thoughts here but I thought it was worth mentioning.

I don’t think Sam Hunt will do as bad as some people are predicting. He’s decently liked on the board so despite him not really being an icon, I think he survives the bottom 5. This aged well!

In a world where everything’s changing, one thing has stayed consistent: Sam Hunt’s position in this rankdown. The hunky former football player never managed to escape last place. Sam Hunt had an explosive start in the country music industry, with four top 30 Hot 100 hits in a row to start his career. He received a lot of criticism for his talk-singing R&B style, and many believe that he doesn’t belong in the genre. Although it doesn’t seem like Pulse *hates* Sam Hunt, it’s clear that it doesn't hold him in high regard like others on the list. ClevelandRox , HeyHeyHey , LBTrocks , and someguy all lose a top 20 here.

Y’all did Darius dirty! He’s one of country music’s most consistent current artists and always manages to keep the country instruments in the mix on his music. If anyone doesn’t already know this, Darius was the lead singer of the insanely popular ‘90s band Hootie and the Blowfish before going solo. He released an R&B album called Back to Then back in 2002 before eventually moving to country music. Darius was an immediate success in the country world, garnering 3 #1 singles at country radio and selling 1.3 million albums (not to mention being the first black country artist to reach #1 at country radio since Charley Pride in 1983). While he never had an album as successful as Learn to Live ever again, he has remained a consistent force in country music, and scored 2 #1 singles with his most recent album era. I ( lady𝓐fan ) lose my #2 here, and I don’t regret a thing.

Sam Hunt has done some truly impactful and revolutionary work in his brief time in the industry. A lot of people would say it is not the right kind of impact though, and I can definitely understand where people would dislike his sound. My biggest problem with him is that he seems to lack the consistency of vision to make it in the industry long-term. Montevallo is a very solid and innovative album, but ever since then he has been mediocre at best, putting out one unmemorable song after another with seemingly no idea what to do with his career next. He finally got that second album out after like 6 years, but my interest in it is almost zero considering how terrible and/or forgettable every song we have heard since then has been. Sam had the following and momentum to be a HUGE superstar, and has pretty much wasted or missed every opportunity to capitalize on it. A very fitting last place here, considering how many of these artists have been able to sustain wildly impactful careers for multiple decades.

If by "consistent" you mean "incessantly vanilla and safe", and by "current" you mean "hasn't had a hit in 3 years or consistent success in 8 years", then I 100% agree with you!

Darius Rucker is an artist that I always want to like more than I do. I do enjoy many of his hits, but I have never heard anything from him that I absolutely love. Meanwhile, every hit he has ever had has been so overplayed that I can barely stand to listen to it anymore (I guess that's what happens when you manage to only have like 10 hits spread out over the course of 12-year career ) So I have never had any desire whatsoever to dive deeper into his catalog. Still, the fact that I find him to be good more often than not helped him to at least escape the bottom 5 of my list.
