I'm not surprised that Chris Stapleton is also out in the bottom 5 because overall he's a rather divisive artist on Pulse mostly because of his voice. In terms of his career, though, I think one thing that is overlooked is his work as a songwriter where he had a hand in penning Josh Turner's "Your Man", Kenny Chesney's "Never Wanted Nothing More", Luke Bryan's "Drink a Beer", George's "Love's Gonna Make It Alright", and the list goes on and on. I like Chris more than most on here and I also happen to think he's had more of an impact on country music as a whole than Blake Shelton ever has in his career.

His songwriting would've earned him a place in the icons of country someday, add in just how huge his influence has been, I feel like the trend towards more traditional sounds began with his breakout.

Wow I thought Chris Stapleton would make the top half. I hope the daddies male artists I have in my top 16 won’t be out in the next set.

I did not give Chris' songwriting any thought when doing my list and had I then I would have definitely put him a lot higher

My comments towards these rankings: 40. Sam Hunt Well he only has around 1.5 album eras and this album era could flop because Downtown's Dead flopped. Showed he could be Rodney Atkins at one point. Still honestly don't see why Kinfolks would be able to save this era and Southside being #2 most streamed "country" album on first week ever. Plus "country" rankdown duh. 39. Darius Rucker Well he is 99% known for Wagon Wheel and his ethnicity and then almost nothing else. The parent album only sold 575,400 copies as of April 2015. Typical sign of hit singles but not hit artist. And his songs don't age well. 38. Rascal Flatts They do have some really popular hits here but I think they are not a necessary addition to country music realm. Maybe they are the first artist to have more teenagers as their fanbases at that time (and Taylor Swift just outshines them)? But let's not think their vocals are good, and theie biggest songs are covers say something about their original music. 37. Blake Shelton Being a The Voice judge does do him good in terms of popularity, and he definitely has some good songs in discography, but so many bummers in 2010s, in particular the whole If I'm Being Honest era. Plus... www.savingcountrymusic.com/blake-shelton-calls-classic-country-fans-old-farts-jackasses/36. Chris Stapleton And people just ignoring his previous groups like The Steeldrivers and The Jompson Brothers lol, and he cannot be nominated for Best New Artist in the Grammys because he has already been nominated as The Steeldrivers before. Sales/streams of Tennessee Whiskey and Traveller prove he is a hit artist. He is most responsible for subverting bro-country era so I will give him that.

I can’t believe you people put Darius and Rascal Flatts below Blake Shelton, smh. Aside from “The Baby” and maybe “Ol’ Red,” there’s not a thing I’d ever listen to by him.

I didn't comment on the last couple reveals yet. Blake Shelton deserved to be this low for his mediocre output the past decade, but honestly he does not get enough credit for the first half of his career. Yes, everybody's in love with "Austin", "Ol' Red", and "The Baby", as they should be. But nobody seems to give him credit for just how consistent and strong his first handful of albums were! "I Thought There Was Time", "Same Old Song", "When Somebody Knows You That Well", "Problems At Home", "Love Gets In The Way", "Cotton Pickin' Time", "The Bartender", etc. all stand out as being like 8000x better than anything he has released in the 2010s. Not to mention forgotten hits like "All Over Me", "Playboys Of The Southwestern World", etc. The list goes on and on. Blake Shelton's Barn And Grill is honestly one of the most consistent albums I have ever heard. Blake is a very charismatic vocalist, who can really make great music if given a strong melody and his voice is allowed to carry the song. Unfortunately in recent years he has relied on weak melodies with bland and vanilla production that covers up the raw emotions in his voice.
Chris Stapleton is no doubt an influential figure. With his songwriting, guitar skills, backup vocals, previous groups, current solo career, etc. he is definitely the full package. Unfortunately, his voice is absolutely horrible to me. I would rather listen to cats fighting outside for an hour than listen to one of his albums in full. His material is very same-y to me (look at "Broken Halos" and "Millionaire" being hits back-to-back and I still cannot differentiate between the two...), and his voice just sounds like unpleasant screaming when he really gets into it. Should have definitely stayed a songwriter/background vocalist....

It's hard to believe that "Austin" is almost 20 years old. With the way things are heading, Blake might be the next George Strait in terms of career longevity (NOT quality, lol).

Should also point out there's some true legends I did rank low just because I'm not a fan so I shouldn't comment too much on anybody's rankings haha
Sam is the only one from the list who I don't personally think earned their place yet.

Toby Keith is the first artist to leave us, bowing out at #35. Debuting in 1993, he has released 19 studio albums, many of which have gone multiple times platinum. Among his biggest hits are "Should've Been A Cowboy," "As Good As I Once Was," "Beer For My Horses," and many others. tim scores a perfect ranking here while a couple people lose their #40. We see THREE Top 10 losses as well!

Over-hated!!!!! It is a shame that Toby has turned into such a polarizing figure over the course of his career, and been so inconsistent in recent years, because I think people on Pulse tend to forget that he literally spent like 95% of his career cranking out jam after jam... :( He has a few polarizing songs for sure, but people act like he has been feeding us nothing but crap for the last 25 years just because he has released a few too many pro-America and/or novelty songs in the last few years...
Toby is a really strong vocalist with a very unique and charismatic voice that allows him to sell just about any style of song that he wants to. I am really glad that we were able to finally honor him with an artist rankdown a few months ago, because that definitely helped remind some people (including me) just how much great music he has offered us through the years! (And might even be part of the reason why he escaped the bottom 5 here!)
