This list is oddly disappointing so far but I’m not sure why. I think it is because I like everyone so it feels weird to see Stapleton and Luke Combs so low.
I don’t care who wins but I predict it is Carrie, Kacey or an older legend.

As much as I love Luke Combs so far in his career, him bowing out here feels right.
Tanya Tucker is well respected, but when you look at her career it doesn't stack up as an icon (IMO) as much as the other legendary women on this list. I am glad to see she wasn't overranked here in the final list.
So far, so good, I think.

I feel like Toby Keith is more erratic version of Brad Paisley. Sometimes his novelty songs are off the makr. But the song featured in the reveal post and Beer For My Horses are good songs. Also he definitely has released too many patriotic songs.
Kenny Rogers is fine. I like The Gambler and Lucille but I never like his vocals.
Tanya Tucker is good but again, her vocals are kinda there. Props for being an example of young stars (like Brenda Lee or LeAnn Rimes) back in the days I guess.
Willie Nelson is a great icon. Your favorite artist can almost never make the concept albums he made back in 1970s. And that signature sound of Trigger and harmonica... He should never be remembered only as a marijuana dude.
Much of Luke Combs success comes after Chris Stapleton canceling bro-country. Can't really see any unique points from him tbh. Having a 50-week #1 album and very successful first or first two album era does not guarantee much. So he ranking higher than some of actual icons is just...lol

I thought #29 meant that there's a tie at #29 but then I realized that they'd break it like they did in the previous set

Willie Nelson and especially Luke Combs ending up higher than Tanya Tucker is just wrong. I've been listening to a lot of Tanya Tucker music for a last year or so and she has so many great songs. I like a few Willie Nelson songs but he also have a great ability to turn good songs bad with his singing (I mean when I first find out he made cover of Always on My Mind I was so excited because I love this song and now there is even more country version of it... I was very disappointed because I don't like his version at all... The same thing happend again with his cover of Just Breathe so I quit listening to his covers of other artists songs and went to his original material but other than a few songs I never really cared for his music. Well at least Willie is a legend, Luke Combs on the other hand... let just say that his taste in shoes matches his music output perfectly...they are both bad. That being said I don't categoricaly dislike him and If he ever releases a good song I still might like it.

Lorrie Morgan, while not a major star, did have a decent career in the late 80s and most of the 90s. She was also the widow of country star Keith Whitley. 8 people lose a top 20 here, and toomuchboy lost a #6.

The next reveal is quite a doozy, with 9 people losing a top 20 and one of you even losing a #1! Apparently this artist is quite polarizing.

Oh, not Lorrie :'( Her low rank here has got to be more to do with lack of familiarity than anything. She has an extremely charismatic voice that allows her to sell epic ballads and feisty uptempos with emphatic and unique gusto, despite her relatively limited vocal range. A truly exceptional and underrated vocalist. And for some reason, she always makes me think of my grandma who died in 1997 when I was 4 😂 Like, I don't know if we listened to Lorrie once while driving to her house or what, but everything about Lorrie makes me super nostalgic for my grandma, and that is such an awesome thing :) It's also kinda weird because she's easily like 15+ years younger than my grandma 😂But they look kinda similar, and both seem like nice ladies, so we'll roll with it.

George Jones is the next to go in this rankdown. I'm surprised he's out so early considering his legendary status in country music, and even more surprised at the fact that he's so polarizing. I guess most of his fanbase wouldn't be on Pulse, lol. He recorded what many believe is the greatest country song of all time, "He Stopped Loving Her Today" (though I'm not sold on that one), and had an extremely lengthy career with his first hit in 1955 and his last in 1988 (with a few top 30 appearances for more than a decade after). Kanenrá:ke loses his #1, making that our first #1 loss if I'm remembering correctly (I'm sure y'all would love to correct me on that ).

at George Jones being so polarizing... I have been alive and aware of the world for a quarter of a century, and have only heard like 5 George Jones songs that I know of. I cannot even imagine how old you would have to be to be familiar enough with his material to put him at #1 on a list that is this strong...

Anyway, adding to my George Jones thoughts, he is definitely a legendary figure in the genre, whose low placement here can only be explained by his relative lack of relevance with people who are younger than like 35. He has a decent voice (I am NOT here for all the liars who try to prop him up as the "greatest country vocalist of all time"). He has a fantastic and huge vocal range considering which era of country music he belonged to, but he can also sound pitchy af on certain songs. Not to mention that his reputation for being an alcoholic who missed concerts and got DUIs and stuff has significantly marred his legacy.
I respect him a lot though, and would gladly participate in a rankdown for him one of these days!!! It would benefit me to get more familiar with his stuff!
