IF I remember correctly "I Need You" was Tim's current single at radio when he decided to perform a brand new song at the 2007 ACM awards that he and the Warren Brothers had just written, that song turned out to be "If You're Reading This". Radio stations around the country started playing the live version of "If You're Reading This" and it began climbing the charts. So Tim ended up with two singles on the charts at the exact same time. "I Need You" ended up peaking at #8 and "If You're Reading This" peaked at #3. I always thought both songs would've had a shot at hitting #1 if they hadn't been climbing the charts simultaneously and sort of competing with each other.

Well this is a nice little plot twist!!! As I mentioned in my prediction post, "I Need You" is a fine song that I expected to have a chance of winning based on how big of a hit it was, but it was so overplayed around here that I still have very little desire to revisit it to this day. Apparently I'm not alone in that regard!
And it does have multiple super cringey lyric moments. The needle needing a vein is the obvious one. But what about the fact that they had absolutely no reason to establish that the uncle's name is Joe and that he lives in Oklahoma? That's the sort of hyper-specificity that adds an element of cheese to a song. Especially because they both sing about him, when theoretically he can only be one of their uncles.
There's also the fact that "like a light house on the coast" doesn't offer any sort of need relationship.

Coming in at #4 is the albums sixth single, Let It Go. The top 4 were untouchable and all flirted with different positions, but when the dust settled, Let It Go got the short end of the stick. bboat11 loses his #1. I really love this one and if we didn't get Train #10 as a single, I'm glad we atleast got Let It Go. Does anyone else kind of hear Diamond Rio's Beautiful Mess in this? The hint was from the opening lyric of the song, "I've been caught sideways out here on the crossroads" and is a still of Britney Spears in her stellar award-deserving performance of her first movie, Crossroads. 💗

Wow - a few weeks ago when playing ‘Who Want To Be a Millionaire?’ on my Alexa she asked who starred in a movie titled ‘Crossroads’ and I had never heard of it before (so I got it wrong). Not sure I ever would’ve figured the clue out but it is funny that the movie has come up twice in the past few weeks in completely different ways.
Anyway...”Let It Go” is a great song! It got blocked by “Chicken Fried” on Billboard which was obviously massive and another favorite of mine from that year.

I love "Let It Go". Probably one of his most underrated singles. Two album tracks in the top three, I'm interested to see if one of them can actually come out on top.

Missing the top two is the album's original first single, Train #10. I do think Last Dollar worked better as a first single, but there's no reason this got overlooked SEVEN SINGLES LATER. 🔥 I lose my #1 along with kw9461 and sabre14 . gardyfan loses his #13, but he's still waiting for his last place to show up!

Just looked at the “If You’re Reading This” thread to see what people were saying about it at the time and I found this..... So is he done with the Let It Go album and the next single will be from a new album? That era ended fast...

And it all came down to which was less polarizing, and Between The River and Me, which was the front runner for over the first half of the rankdown, lost it's footing and fell into the muddy abyss. Congrats to tim , 🌺CountryLineDancer , countrymusicjunkie and Cody Wants Out... who got perfect rankings with the #1 song! countrymusicjunkie actually got the entire top 3 correct! Also congratulations are in order for gardyfan who finally lost his #14 with this reveal! 👏😂 edit: Also, that fanmade video for Between The River and Me was... something else. Just looked at the “If You’re Reading This” thread to see what people were saying about it at the time and I found this..... So is he done with the Let It Go album and the next single will be from a new album? That era ended fast... LMAO imagine if this era ended after two singles instead of seven. I've still never owned one of the physical obscure copies with If You're Reading This on it. I barely consider it part of the album/era, it feels weird that it won the entire rankdown for it... but I'm not surprised at all lol

Thanks ClevelandRox for another great rankdown. Great to see the album tracks do so well and surprised that Let It Go was so well received. Looking forward to the next album, whatever it may be.

Yay, the correct one won!! While this album was not exactly my best favourite, especially compared with my fav Sundown Heaven Town, If You're Reading This really stood out among others. Thanks for the work ClevelandRox, and already ready for the next one! :)

I wish we got a studio version of “If You’re Reading This” and I wish “Between the River and Me” was a single.

It's still absurd how badly Curb bungled this quite strong album. Even nearly 15 years later, it's insane to me that "Train #10" wasn't released on an album WITH 7 SINGLES. Really great song and one that I think would've been the album's biggest hit had they released it.
"If You're Reading This" is the correct winner though. The best of the singles, and I've always enjoyed that they never tried a studio version and just went with an edited version of his ACM performance.

This is his album I know the least. I listened to it a time or two and then moved on (and I LOVE his albums usually). So I may take my time with this one but I will be submitting as always.

I hope the album really clicks with you on your relisten austin! I kind of felt the same way when it first came out, but then I really started loving every single song on here. I've already put my rankings in the spreadsheet and... it was insanely difficult. 😩

I just really enjoy the whole vibe of "Suspicions" and the melody, but I knew it wasn't that popular going in - I like both the original and Tim' cover version.
"Train #10" and "Between the River and Me" being the two highest album tracks as it should! The latter should've been a single and I was hoping it could pull off a win. "If You're Reading This" is great though, so no complaints about the winner there.
I don't think I've listened to Damn Country Music in full, so this will be a good opportunity to listen to it!

I'm thinking of adding a poll of my top five album tracks that come close, but have missed the album track rankdown as a final wild card spot. And the song the participants would want to see again the most would get a second chance and added to the rankdown.
Also, I'm wondering if I should cut the album tracks rankdown into two rankdowns of his first 7-8 albums and then his newer 7-8 albums. I'd much prefer to leave it as one big rankdown and see how they all stack up against each other, but if a lot of people think that would be too much and overwhelm them (70+ songs), I could definitely look into splitting the rankdowns. Not sure how many participants would need to relisten to them all or already know them and can just make a list.
It's still aways away, just trying to plan ahead :) Along with the Tim McGraw Albums rankdown where we will rank all the albums we did from first to last in a special rankdown.
tl:dr 😂

It's still aways away, just trying to plan ahead Along with the Tim McGraw Albums rankdown where we will rank all the albums we did from first to last in a special rankdown. tl:dr 😂 Personally, I would just keep the album tracks rd as one large rankdown. Album tracks rds are rankdowns that people are either going to do or not do; there is nobody that is going to be on the fence, lmao. Especially not to the extent where they are turned off by the idea of ranking 80 songs, but then are suddenly eager to rank 40 songs in one rankdown and then 40 more songs in another. I know I have split up album tracks rds more than anybody else because that's how I'm doing Reba and George's, but it's the only thing that made sense for them because a full-career rd would have either been like 150+ songs, or I would have only been able to use like one song per album, lmao. With Tim it is still possible to do one, so I say keep it that way I worry that if we start normalizing the fracturing of large artist-based rankdowns, it might also spill over into larger singles rankdowns. Wouldn't that be lame if every time we ranked an artist's singles, we started splitting them up by decade? Like rather than ranking all 45 of Tracy Lawrence's singles at once, we rank 25 and then 20 in two separate rankdowns? I think that would be stupid, and I want to normalize keeping artists' full careers in one rankdown whenever possible, whether it's singles or just album tracks. Also, I don't know what others' experiences have been like with this album series, but I have personally found Tim's top albums tracks to be really memorable! Like, I think I could even rank all of the songs that have made the album tracks rd so far without even having to relisten to them! (Except for maybe the ones from his debut album...) So by the end of this album series, I will have no problem having a large album tracks rd. And at the very least, I have definitely enjoyed them a lot, so I will for sure enjoy re-listening to everything even if I end up not remembering more than I expected! Of course, if anyone has enjoyed this series less than I have along the way, they might not have the motivation to rank 70+ songs at once... In which case they would probably also not have the motivation even if you cut it down to just 50 songs, or even 40 songs in two separate rankdowns, so there is literally no upside in trying to cater to them and potentially gutting the rankdown to the point where it is missing noteworthy songs, lol.

In the poll, I voted for "Forget About Us"!! Still can't believe that one missed!!! Set This Circus Down is definitely one of the more stacked albums in this series

Set This Circus Down is definitely one of the more stacked albums in this series I had forgotten that one missed out. I really love that song so I also voted for it. I also agree that keeping the Album Tracks rankdown to one complete rankdown makes more sense than splitting it. I look forward to listening to all of the songs and ranking them again as Tim is a great album artist so he has plenty of great songs that never got released as singles (as we've all been witness to through these rankdowns!)
