After 3, 4 listens... I think overall this is better album than Sex&C But no song is better than Long as I live or/and Sorry (at least for now)
Btw... is she making fun of Drake by singing like that? Did he turn her down for a colab or smth? That song is so so weird and to name the album after it...

I thought it was a store brand drake lol

That can't be her singing!

I like most of the songs, but I really wish Toni would release a solid album with great tracks. If this album was 9 amazing tracks I would be satisfied, but there is not much here that I would revisit. Love my Toni tho....

I keep doing things that I haven’t finished the album. I like the transition from Gotta Move On to Fallin. So far, I understand why Gotta Move On is the next single because it’s really strong.

It's a solid album. Much better than the last one.

I like the album and the smooth confidence the music has to it. Her voice is still so pristine. If she were out here trying to incorporate modern trends, it’d probably feel forced and fall flat so I’m content with her standard issue sad love songs.
And the guy singing on the title track is Akeel Henry, an up-and-coming songwriter/producer out of Toronto. He co-wrote and produced it as well.

Like the last album, I only like the singles.. but I don’t like any of the singles nearly as much as “Deadwood” and “Long As I Live”. Exactly. I really like O.V.E.Rr. - the pre-chorus reminds me of Mariah's 8th Grade.

Yeah, I just finished listening to this and I'll pretty much echo the majority here; this is slightly better than the previous album, but nothing to write home about, as a whole. I feel like she recorded a few songs just to put a short album out and that was it. There's not much to each song and I don't see myself revisiting this album much.

The first six tracks I was feeling but the wheels began coming off with track 7 "Happy Without Me"
After that, it's more of those pop AC ballads that tanked Sex & Cigarettes and the original version of Do It is very subpar compared to the version with Missy.
I would take Coping, Deadwood, Long As I Live and the first seven tracks of this album to make one album that is up to the standards of her previous work.

I actually did not like Do it before the album But on the album the original version fits perfectly while Missy remix is somewhat off for me
For now Saturday night seems to be the one song that kinda stands out for me
But mostly I listen to the album while doing snth so it is just background music...

She did an #AskToni today on Twitter. Some interesting reveals...
Music video for “Gotta Move On” in the works:
Deluxe edition and vinyl coming:
Original title of the album was T.O.N.I.:
She wished Janet’s “Let’s Wait Awhile” was hers:
There will be a second Babyface duets album:

So she goes ballad heavy at the end and I don’t care for the tracks. The first four to five tracks are good to decent.

Just finished listening to the album. I'm not overly impressed by it. Only the singles stood out to me.

I finally listened to the album properly and I have to say it's way more cohesive and strong than Sex & Cigarettes. That one had the piano ballads that really threw the whole sound out the door.
Spell My Name could easily give Toni up to 4 R&B hits if they wanted to push it. The sound is mature and age appropriate but still fresh for her. I love "Fallin'" and "Nothin'" they sound like nothing she has done before.
"O.V.E.Rr." is a banger!

‘Sex & Cigarettes’ >>>>>>> ‘Spell My Name’.
‘Sex & Cigarettes (Song)’ >>>>>>> Every song on ‘Spell My Name’.
🤷🏿♂️
I love Ms. Braxton but, personally speaking, she has only released two decent albums since 2002; ‘LM&D’ and ‘S&C’. ‘Libra’ came close.

I'm looking forward to the next Babyface collaboration album. I love Toni (still listen to her first 3 albums regularly), but the last solo album by her that I enjoyed was Libra.

Agree to disagree. This is her first album that I’m not immediately drawn to. That said, it’s definitely a grower and a later now I’m a fan. Her last album with zero skips is Libra followed by LM&D and S&C

For that album, I still think “Me & My Boyfriend” should’ve been the lead single which could have been a big hit especially on Urban radio. “Hit The Freeway” is terrible. 💀

Shameful. Some of her best work is on that album. “Hit The Freeway”, “Lies Lies Lies”, and “Always”.

I believe Toni was pissed and said a little something in the press about it.

Yeah, she hates on MTAW much more than she should but I’m sure it’s more about the negative experience she had behind the scenes that she associates with it.
Libra is her classic IMO followed closely by her debut. I probably return to The Heat the least outside of the singles.

Shameful. Some of her best work is on that album. “Hit The Freeway”, “Lies Lies Lies”, and “Always”. “Lies; Lies; Lies” is absolutely amazing. It’s a perfect combination of Pop-Rock and R&B. ‘Every word you say is lies, lies, lies, And now I'm leaving you so bye, bye, bye. I can't take no more of this cry, cry, cryin'; You know that you ain't shit with your lies, lies, lies’. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Libra is her classic IMO followed closely by her debut. I probably return to The Heat the least outside of the singles. Her trinity, in my opinion, is: 1) Toni Braxton 2) Secrets 3) S&C/Libra The only song I don’t like on “Secrets” and often skip past is ‘Don’t Want To’. With “The Heat”, they chose the right singles to promote it because the album tracks are rather uninspired overall.
