Does this get 2 or 3 weeks atop the charts on Billboard? Normally I’d say a song this massive would get 3, but Sam Hunt is peaking around the same time with another large hit song. I personally would like to see this one rule the roost for as long as possible, because this definitely seems to be the “song of the summer”. If this was 10-15 years ago, I’d say Luke would ride this out for 4-5 weeks. But that’s now how the radio charts work nowadays (other than a couple hits from Combs) with the long chart climbs and pecking order that’s in place for songs in the top 5-10. Sam’s on the same label team, so for sure they’re going to push him next week. After that Sony Nashville is prepared to give Miranda a large push for #1 and then BBR the same for LoCash the following week. When I was a teenager I hated those 4-5-6 week #1 songs, since many of my favorites stalled in that 2-5 range, but looking back I miss those days because those singles largely deserved the stays they had at #1. Those days for the most part are over. Huge radio hits are now rewarded through recurrent airplay. It will be interesting to see what happens with the Chris Janson song. That one is flying up the charts, and could gum up the works for LoCash especially

I 100% agree with the sentiments about chart runs. It's just not entertaining to watch the charts anymore, the way it was even as recently as 2014. Those long runs at #1 are exciting to see, it's exciting to go "oh, will it stay there again or will it get knocked down by one of the songs in the 2-5 spots?" Not to mention the long chart runs makes a hit song seem even bigger, more memorable and significant. I don't like the pecking order of the charts at all.

I'm not a fan of all these non-event singles hitting the top, stuff like LoCash's current single (would love to see that one get blocked -- it shouldn't have even made top 10 at all imo), but I'm also a way bigger fan of Sam Hunt and (especially) Miranda Lambert's current singles so I am happy that neither of them likely run the risk of being blocked from #1 by "One Margarita," which I think is one of the absolute worst singles of the year. That would be more tragic, especially in Miranda's case where its her first chance in 8 years of getting to the top on her own on BB. I would be all for more 3-5 week #1 singles on the charts, but I'd rather them be at the expense of stuff like "In Between" and "One Big Country Song" than deserving hits.

This is where i am at the more I thought about it today. Looking at all the #1s so far this is how the year should be if the airplay chart: (long rant ahead) "Ridin "Roads" and "What If I Never Get Over You" still get their 1 week at #1, "10,000 Hours" gets 3 weeks at #1 on Billboard and "Heartache Medication" gets a Mediabase only #1, "The Bones" gets 4 weeks at #1 on Billboard blocking "Kinfolks" (Mediabase only #1 as well) and "Make Me Want To" (barely scrapes Top 10), "Homesick" blocks "Homemade" (dies out in the Top 5) from #1, "I Hope" spends 4 weeks at #1 blocking "What She Wants Tonight", "Slow Dance In A Parking Lot", and "Catch" (all peak in the Top 5 on Billboard). "Nobody But You" and "More Hearts Than Mine" remain the same. "Chasin" You"gets 2 weeks at #1 blocking "Beer Can't Fix" (Mediabase only #1), "Does To Me" remain the same or blocks "After A Few" (dies out in the Top 10), "I Hope You're Happy Now" spends 2 weeks at #1 instead of "In Between" (scrapes the Top 20) and "One Margarita" spends 3 weeks at #1 blocking "Here and Now" (Top 5 peak.

If I had the choice, I would want those mid-2000’s chart runs back, even if some big hits missed #1. It’s better than the 40+ number one singles we get now. Literally dozens of singles that peaked from 2-5 back in the 2000’s would’ve been #1 singles if they were released now. Every now and then a song that deserves to go #1 misses out based purely on timing, which honestly is part of the fun, for me at least — it makes #1 achievements that much more important. Sometimes it was a win, sometimes a loss. Kind of reminded me of sports lol. Winning isn’t special if losing isn’t involved. Now there’s almost no fear a single won’t hit #1 once it reached a certain point on the chart. Songs like “Lesson in Leavin’”, “I Don’t Have to Be Me (‘Til Monday)”, “I Go Back”, “Baby Girl”, “Something More”, “Tonight I Wanna Cry”, etc. all probably should have been #1 singles but timing is why they peaked at #2 — blocked by even bigger hits. I’m still with the notion this is mainly to blame on corporate radio playlists. Songs are left in overnight rotation even longer now, causes slower burn rates, and slower exposure for listeners. That slows down the entire chart and causes marathon chart runs and helps promote the revolving door at #1.

Country radio's need to have as many songs reach #1 as possible is exhausting, and I can't believe that only 3 Luke Bryan songs have missed #1 on airplay since 2010. That's crazy!

#19 on Hot 100 with 2 new entries in front of it. Still did not get Hot Country Songs #1 because The Bones is #18 this week.

This one’s actually gained about over 800k in Mediabase audience over the past four days. Miranda should still take Billboard Country Airplay (along with Mediabase), but out of “Bluebird”, “Hard to Forget” and “One Margarita”, it’s clear Luke’s will be the one with the best recurrent play.
This also speaks to how big radio hits are rewarded these days. Most don’t spend more than a week or two at #1, but they stay in heavy rotation after exiting the top. My guess is “One Margarita” would’ve been a 4 or 5-week number one record 10-15 years ago. Sam or Miranda (maybe both) might’ve missed #1 altogether. Not saying Sam and Miranda don’t deserve to be #1 with their songs (I actually prefer both to Luke’s lol), because they definitely do, but that’s just the way it is nowadays — almost every song that reaches the top 5 now is at least a Mediabase #1 hit. It’s pretty much the opposite of the way the chart used to be and it doesn’t look like we’re ever going back because labels get more #1 claims.

Seems likely that “Down To One” will be the next single. It showed on Apple Music Today’s Country playlist and got the promo on iTunes day the album came out. Sounds like a vintage Luke Bryan song, nothing new. I really hope “For A Boat” can become a single at some point, that one is great.

Was kinda expecting "Build Me a Daddy" next. That seemed like it would be a good change of pace for him this era after a bunch of fluffy singles. I did listen to "Down to One" and the other new songs when the album came out out of curiosity since the album is so short and I'd already heard half the songs before its release, but I don't remember it at all.

Down To One is my fav from the album, as well as all 3 of his former singles, so I'll be happy to hear it on the radio! It sounds pretty safe and i don't call it a unique song, but i just like the melody and the mood of the song.
