I guess many people predicted "Blinding Lights" returning to # 1 which is great. I'm not a fan of "Tootsie Slide." What feels like a pleasant surprise is how "Nobody But You" by Blake and Gwen continues to grow and climb up the chart now a Top 20 hit. Rooting for "Circles" to continue its residency in the Top Ten.

If βSay Soβ can peak at #3 or higher in the next month or so, my Q2 will be complete. π
Thus far Doja Cat is the 10th Female Rapper to peak in the top five of the Hot 100 with a βsoloβ song. The others are:
β’ Neneh Cherry: Buffalo Stance β’ Salt & Pepa: Shoop β’ Lauryn Hill: Doo Wop (That Thing) β’ Missy Elliot: Work It β’ M.I.A: Paper Planes β’ Nicki Minaj: Super Bass β’ Nicki Minaj: Starships β’ Nicki Minaj: Anaconda β’ Cardi B: Bodak Yellow β’ Lizzo: Truth Hurts β’ Lizzo: Good As Hell
(Lilβ Kim; Eve; Iggy Azelea all have top five hits too as lead artists).

Eve's was Let Me Blow Your Mind w/Gwen Stefani, I think.

Eve's was Let Me Blow Your Mind w/Gwen Stefani, I think. Yes. As well as βGangsta Lovinβ with Alicia Keys. It peaked at #2 in β02 behind Nelly & Kellyβs βDilemmaβ. Eve was quite the force. Her and Missy Elliot were genuinely close to having number ones as Female Rappers, far before the Digital and Streaming era.

Do you consider Salt&Pepa and Lizzo rap? More like RnB. βSalt & Pepaβ, definitely. They always marketed themselves as Rappers, especially at the beginning of their careers (βPush It; Shake That Thing; Letβs Talk About Sexβ), who gradually became more R&B-oriented to crossover. βLizzoβ is definitely debatable, just like Lauryn Hill but they have songs of which are predominantly Rap in their discography. Anyhow, I think the industry is always confused in labelling Female artists who Rap and also sing compared to their Male counterparts. If theyβre not hardcore Rappers ala. Lilβ Kim or Foxy Brown then theyβre somehow βlessβ Hip-Hop.

Three country songs in the top 20? When's the last time that happened? Everyone predicting pop will take over after trap/rap's dominance would be shocked if country explodes and dominates on the Hot 100 throughout the early 20s.

Unless we get a bizarre bomb or I'm misinterpreting the data, Circles seems safe for 2+ weeks with an approx +20% over #11, not to mention 8-10 are steady or declining.

Gwen Stefani earns her first Top 20 hit since The Sweet Escape reached #2 in 2007. It's her eighth overall (twelfth if you count No Doubt).

I assume it's about the Country Songs chart, but surely The Bones would be higher than her so I don't know. Three country songs in the top 20? When's the last time that happened? I'm surprised they get so much airplay on the Country format. I'm sure the country music 10 years ago sounded quite different, the country songs I hear now sound more like early Kelly Clarkson or Avril Lavigne kind of music (except usually with male vocalists). Although I will grant that I haven't listened to very many.

Everyone predicting pop will take over after trap/rap's dominance would be shocked if country explodes and dominates on the Hot 100 throughout the early 20s. it really isn't though. It's still rap and pop at the top, easily. It's just billboard on an outdated formula, just like how billboard allowed One More Night to stay 9 weeks at #1 over Gangnam Style. So billboard can have all the country songs in the top 20 as it wants, but we know they don't really belong there anyway.
