Mitchwolf and others that have been posting the weekly chart I appreciate the time you put in. Where are " Enrique Guy" been a few weeks since you have posted hope all is ok? You seem like your a longtime listener and you have a lot of good knowledge. Here is some interesting information, this weeks top 40 based on iTunes is only 2 hours and 11 minutes. Believe it or not there were a couple of weeks a few months back that barely broke 2 hours. Back in the 80"s we had about 220 to 250 songs every year in the top 40 until the AT 40 billboard era ended in 1991. The 90's are hard to be exact due to no AT40 being played for a period of time but based on the Shadoe Stevens years and Casey's top 40 it was about 150 a year through about 2004.Since 2005 we only have about 110 to 130 top 40 songs yearly. Personally I found the older top 40 more enjoyable as songs nowadays average twice as long in the top 40 and many songs that should have at least squeaked into the top 40 are being blocked by songs that have been around for 9 months or more. I've been streaming the classic AT40 episodes alot lately. I began listening in the mid 80s. Back then, there was no internet or Google. Casey was the Top 40 Google and for those of us hooked on the charts back then, you really had to block 4 hours each weekend to listen. I would usually catch AT40 on Saturday mornings and Dees on Sunday nights. For awhile, I remember Scott Shannon's Rockin' America Top 30 countdown too. There was another show called Countdown America with Dick Clark that I would listen too from time to time. It was a different time back then for countdown shows. Not the same today.

Don't forget about Rick Dees' Weekly top 40 (mainly based from R&R).... I listen to em all.... back then i'm a countdown junkie/nut/chart-aholic... now we're "Stans"

I didn't make the connection until now. I started by listening to local countdown shows and writing down all the numbers when I was a kid. I still have those charts.

I did the same thing too. All those charts were destroyed over the years.
Also, back in the late 80s, I would record my own Top 20 countdown on a Sears audio system that played records and I would record them while I did my best Casey impersonation using a microphone. I would use both sides of the 45 min cassette tape. I used 45s I bought from my local record store. It was a great time killer and a fun hobby.

That’s how I started too lmao I wrote down the top 40 each week from 1995 until 2002. I still have them in a bin somewhere. I can’t bring myself to throw them out. And for a while I recorded my own top 20 onto a cassette. I don’t think I have any of those anymore but I do have a couple mp3s of later countdowns I put together.

Unfortunately I can’t relate to you guys.
I didn’t learn about AT40 until 2015, and in case I missed anything on my radio station I could find the entire chart on AT40’s website XD.
