Kathleen Emperatriz DeLuna (born November 26, 1987) is a Dominican-American singer, songwriter and dancer. DeLuna began pursuing a career as a singer when she was a teenager. After signing with Epic Records, she released her debut single "Whine Up" in 2007. The single went on to become a commercial success, entering the Top 40 in numerous countries and topping the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart. Her debut studio album, 9 Lives (2007), failed to see the success of its lead single. The album's third single, "Run the Show", became a hit in various territories, and reached number two on the Hot Dance Club Play chart.
Following the commercial performance of her first album, DeLuna was dropped from Epic Records. DeLuna continued to record both collaborations and soundtrack singles. DeLuna later began working on her second studio album, Inside Out (2010), which received a limited release through Universal Music Belgium. The album spawned a number of singles, notably "Unstoppable", "Push Push", and "Dancing Tonight" featuring Lil Wayne, Akon, and Fo Onassis respectively. Viva, the North American edition of the album, was slated to be released later that year; however, this never materialized. DeLuna released the compilation album "Loading" in 2016. Wanna See U Dance was released as the first single back in 2012.

I've always liked her and enjoyed her music. She is super talented. It is a shame she hasn't seen the success her talent deserves.

I'm still just getting into her but I like her voice. Her collab with Darin is great.

She makes basic pop music that I enjoy.
"Last Night in Miami" and "Only One" are still high on my gym playlist.

I like all of her most recent singles ("Nueva Actitude", "Last Night in Miami", "Only One"). It's a shame the world wasn't ready for Latin-dancepop when she first came out.

Agreed. She should be having the same success as the current Latin girls are. Same thing with Paula DeAnda.

I am genuinely curious and don't mean this in a shady way, but who is funding this girl's career? She had one hit and a couple other minor splashes... nearly two decades ago. Does she have brand partnerships in Latin America? Does she tour at all? I'm all for going after what you want to do, but it seems crazy to me that she's still chasing this with virtually zero to show for it beyond what I listed above.

C'mon budget! So I actually did some digging because I'm also intrigued by this question, and here are my speculations. First of all, she was not signed to a major label in the last decade. Universal Motown was supposed to release her sophomore album Inside Out, but it got scrapped in the US and she was dropped in 2011. The album's release in Europe and Australia was handled by Universal Belgium - surprise surprise, she had eight Top 40 hits in Belgium - and a Japanese edition was released by Manhattan Recordings, which is what appears on streaming platforms these days. She signed a deal with eOne in 2012 for her third album, Loading, which came out 4 years later. Once again, Manhattan Recordings distributed the album in Japan. The 5 bonus tracks from the Japanese edition was then released as an EP in the US under her own imprint Cape Town. After Loading, she next came back in 2019 with three singles, and then last week with a fourth. All of them are released via Cape Town. But interestingly, YouTube and Spotify both show that this recent single is marketed and distributed by a company called "VENGABU" based in UAE. The company's website currently lists her as the only artist. Again, I still don't know who funded her music career. But I think as a long-time indie artist, she knows how to strike deals with labels of international markets. Music fans here treat her as a flop because we're used to thinking along the Billboard Hot 100. But the fact that she is an American artist with some concrete achievements (3 studio albums plus several moderately successful international singles) probably makes her a quite marketable act in the eyes of investors outside the US. Plus, it looks like she's not cheap to book.
