The best way I can describe Part of the Machine is that it's perfectly average.

Either this song or "Cryin'" will be in my second Lost Hits of the Late 80s rankdown as both songs did fairly well on the Hot 100. This is the one I'm leaning toward including though. EXTRA

We end today's extras with a song that I was surprised to see had not been a much bigger hit on the rock charts. We did get to rank it in the 1988 Hot 100 rankdown though where it finished at #21. EXTRA
Pour Some Sugar on Me Def Leppard

Well, how about that? We're 20 reveals in and nobody has lost a top 10 yet. There will be some top 10 losses in the next set though.

90. Born to Be Bad - George Thorogood & the DestroyersThe music here isn't half bad, but I'm trying to think of a vocalist that would make this song tolerable. Brian Setzer maybe? 89. I'm Not Your Man - Tommy Conwell & the Young RumblersThis song had really cool music going on. Tommy Conwell isn't anyone I would hire for a lead singer, but he kinda works this vibe. I can see why it would get some #1 action, but I can also see it disappear into nothingness after it's done on the chart. 88. Ten Men Workin' - Neil Young & the BluenotesAt least we can remember this RD as the one where I didn't rank Neil at #100. Honestly it has a lot to do with the song. This doesn't sound like "Papa Nirvana". 87. Welcome Me Home - The Rossington BandI have no idea why this gets a near tank ranking, but if it keeps Glam Metal songs alive for one more day so be it. 86. Wasting My Time - Jimmy PageI didn't recall this song, but if I didn't watch the video I wouldn't have guessed that Jimmy was involved in this. If anything it proves that 70's artist where prompt to go hair Metal instead of Alternative metal, which is fine with me. BTW the lead singer John Miles has great vocals. He also did some vocals for Alan Parsons Project. 85. Superstitious - EuropeI was obviously gonna give this one the highest ranking, cuz in a list like this these were the bands I preferred by a Long shot. This was a decent rocker with some Scorpions power metal vibes, but it still pales to "Rock The Night" ,"The Final Countdown", and "Cherokee". 84. It's Money That Matters - Randy NewmanI actually gave "i Love L.A." some chart action , but this thing was just ridiculous. That part where they all sing along? That brought the song to a level deeper than dumb. 83. Red Blue Jeans- John KilzerI actually thought this was a bad ass rocking jam, but I upgraded songs that I actually charted and liked better. Also sad to learn he passed away last year by his own hand. I still don't get the populartity of suicide among rockers. 82. Magic Touch - Mike OldfieldI also chose the Max Bacon version. It sounded a bit more powerful with his tones. The music was alright. I struck me as something Dennis DeYoung or Mickey Thomas would release as a solo project. ooops sipped a number 81. "Hobbit Party machine" - J ethro TullI had to change the title of this song. I can handle his flute on his mean ass rocking jams like "Aqualung", but this was some serious Hobbit party rock. No thanks. Butterflies & Hurricanes I can bet my entire top 10 your #100 is Cinderella powerballad ,because of the your favorite vocalist Tom Keifer . I can guess this much because you tanked one of my favorite songs titled "Heartbreak Station" beacuase of his vocals.

I'm gonna do a boatload of extras. Including some past ones. One Good Reason - Paul CarrackPaul Carrack isn't a band I would hire to play at my birthday Party, but this has more of a Steve Winwood/Eric Clapton vibe. Not too bad, and I surely would gave this song a much higher rank than the song he submits for this RD. Stand Beside Me - Kansas This band went form some seriously fierce Southern Rock, sounding "Carry On Wayward Son" classic rock to this watered down crap. "Dust In The Wind" has more huevos. What the hell happened to Southern Rock bands of the 80's? Same shit happened to .38 Special and Boston. Get Started, Start a Fire - Graham ParkerNormally I could dig some Graham Parker, because it sounds like 90's Adult Alt rock, but I would have preferred "Don't let Them Break You Down". Has more of that Matchbox 20 style I loved back then. Swamp Music - Lynyrd Skynyrd It isn't too bad, but I would have thought this was ridiculous back in my preteen years. Edge of a Broken Heart - VixenI'll take either of the two that you decide to feature, and I'll most likely shoot them into my top 10. This song is awesome. Female Bon Jovi coming at you. Janet Gardner had perfect vocal tones for Glam Metal. Back then I was more into the male sung songs, but through the years Vixen songs have become some of my favorite songs of that era. Another song I would have squeezed into my top 10. Pour Some Sugar on Me - Def LeppardI can't believe how lame the Mainstream Rock chart was by letting all these classics slip through their fingers. It seems they were totally out of touch with what was going on in the real world. Peak #25. Who the hell are they fooling? 8D This was a monster jam. You couldn't even ride an elevator without this one coming on. One of Def Leppard's best from the Glam Era. I specify this because it pales to their heavy metal Pyromania, On Through The Night and High N' Dry" eras, but it's still the perfect party Rock song. There is a strong chance this might have been my #1 song or at least #2 like I would have ranked "Cherry Pie". Couple more form the last Eaxtras: I enjoyed at least one aspect from most songs, but I skipped songs I totally didn't care for.Sting - The Lazarus HeartAlmost everything from this album is better than the song we actually ranked. Henry Lee Summer - Hands on the RadioOne thing about this guy. He is melodic as F U C K. That's the main reason I enjoyed his Heartland style songs. Huey Lewis & the News - Small WorldI'm a big Huey Lewis fan. Still charting them in 2020. This is a cool jam. Something about a rock n roll band featuring a huge ensemble of musical instruments works every time. We have a brass section, an organ, and Huey on the front line with his unique vocals. You have to "get" Huey Lewis and the News in order to enjoy them. The fans know what I mean? Kingdom Come - What Love Can Beprobably my favorite song from this band that i didn't even know existed? It's like Robert Plant and David Coverdale had a love child. Great song. Will & the Kill - Heart of SteelThis was pretty good. Has some Outfield vibes with someone who looks like Peter Barton on vocals. I can actually imagine Peter having thesze vocals. Jimmy Page - Prison BluesThis time we feature Chris Farlowe on vocals. I'm not too keen on Bluesy rock when it's this slow. I did enjoy Page's guitar ,but this has some serious cockblues rock lyrics. "Stick the weasel down that little hole" Elton John - Goodbye Marlon BrandoBeen a while since I heard a rocker from Elton John. This was a first time listen, but sounded pretty NRGetic. Don't know If I like it better "I Don't Wanna Go on with You Like That". Especially the NRG extended version , but it fits better for a Rock chart. The Gregg Allman Band - Slip AwayOnce in a while this guy can surprise me with a pretty good rock vibe. Not too terrible. Deacon Blue - DignityThis is some pretty good sounding Sophistipop I can behind on. Should have crossed over to Pop instead. Joe Satriani - Satch BoogieThis is a pretty good Guitar instrumental jam, but there is only so much I can do with it. parts sound like Eddie Van Halen. saving the best two for lastLita Ford - Back to the CaveLove Lita Ford. Some of you might like this better than "Kiss Me Deadly, but not me. I'd still put it in my top 30 no doubt about that. You can actually get to hear more of her guitar playing talent on a song like this. I love that. White Lion - Tell Mebest Danish Van Halen band ever. Love this one. White Lion were another charismatic fire driven hit machine. There was a time when the W known as The "white rock" bands ruled the world. I'm calling now that no one can outrank my slot for "Wait".

I hope not. Because he might have to wait a while longer on it to show up. Oh and a couple of extras: Get Started, Start a Fire: Wasn't a big fan of his voice. The song was decent, but just sort of there. I wouldn't have given this one much of a boost, if any. Pour Some Sugar on Me: Mainstream was kind of wacky then, huh? We don't get this fierce jam and Welcome to the Jungle, but we get I Don't Wanna Go On With You Like That and Michael Bolton destroys Otis Redding. Hmm. Although there was a chance this could have snuck into the top 5, I think a more likely fate for this one would have resided in my top 10.
