So "Aw Naw" is actually really fun in concert! But as a song, it's definitely near the bottom (well I did put it at #20 here but I was debating between a couple of songs) for me as far as Chris Young singles go. lol I got a story for ya about "Aw Naw" live. The one (and only so far) time I saw Chris Young live there was a guy probably around my age standing behind me, and after every song Chris sang would yell 'PLAY AW NAW!!!!!!'. So when it came time for Chris to actually perform it he was like "we're about to make this guy's night!" and the guy absolutely LOST his s**t throughout the whole performance of the song I have never in my life seen anyone go SO hard at a concert, lol. Anyway that's all to my story but it amused me and I think of that now every time I hear the song!

I don't hate "Losing Sleep" I just find his catalog to be that good it ended up down there.

I don't hate "Losing Sleep" either but I don't necessarily care for it either and Chris has SO much better. That said, while I'm ok with this leaving now, it's still wrong due to that one horrid song still being in.

And just like that, we lose the two singles from Losing Sleep back-to-back! Poor someguy takes back-to-back hits to his top 10, but the majority of us seem to be happy with these double eliminations. "Hangin' On" is a song I like more than I want to - I love Chris Young's voice so that's probably what's pushing the song up for me; if this was done by someone else I'd probably write it off as "meh". As of "Hangin' On", 15/20 participants have already cleared their #20! A story from me about "Hangin' On" - I was telling someone I know about a Chris Young concert I went to back in November and that person asked me "what did he sing again?" and I went "Um... 'Tomorrow', 'Voices', 'Gettin' You Home'..." until that person went "Oh! The guy that sings 'Hangin' On'!! OH!!!" - I was like out of all songs 'Hangin' On", really!? There's a 29-point gap between "Hangin' On" and #17 which means the bottom 3 was pretty much set in stone towards the latter half of the submission process. The next song never left the #16-#18 range during the entire submission process.

Ok we're back on track!
"Hangin' On" is ATROCIOUSNESS at its finest, this is no better than the worst bro country tune you could ever think of. Straight up trash. Horrid production and beat, the double "hangin' on hangin on" in the chorus is grating and annoying as hell...it's just an all-around horrendous song on a terrible album.
Let me put it to you this way... I heard Chris perform this live twice. Once in the VIP... it was just him and his guitar. His voice sounded AMAZING. I still hated the song with every fibre of my being... and the same can be said for when he performed it in the actual show as well. Hands down his worst song ever, and I doubt he'll be able to come out with a worse song than this his entire career. So glad this is out now at least.

"Aw Naw" is a jam. It's got that edgy rock leaning melody that I like! I understand why it's not a favorite though, and it's not one of my favorites from Chris Young either... but that's because his catalog is SO strong and I greatly prefer traditional leaning Chris to this kind of material from him. Replace "Aw Naw" with "Beer or Gasoline" in the above post and you got my feelings about BOG and it being out now. Although I will say, "Beer or Gasoline" definitely > than "Aw Naw" but the point I'm making in this post is basically the same.

So compared to most of his new stuff "Raised On Country" is a masterpiece and a welcomed change of pace! I still do love the melody on this one, however....when you put it up against his entire singles catalog, it simply cannot compete.

Really wish "Beer Or Gasoline" would have been released to radio like it was supposed to be. He still does it in his set.

First time I saw him a few years ago I was shocked that he did it since it was from way back. Of course I didn't know it was supposed to have been a single. It's one of my favorite album tracks from anybody.

It really is an amazing song, and my #11 rank doesn't do justice to how much I really do love the song, but his catalog is too strong lol I couldn't put this in the top 10 as much as I wanted to. And yeah... I wish it was a single. I think it would have done excellent on radio in its day.

So I think I may have time to go all the way up until #11... but I do want to see who might be here for it since I don't want to rush through until #11 with only a few people here!

Off to a pretty expected start! I correctly pegged that "Aw Naw" would be the (rightful) last place in this and that "Beer or Gasoline" would flop due to low familiarity, and I'm not at all surprised to see his last few string of hit singles land in the bottom 5 given how much his popularity has taken a nose-dive, especially on Pulse, over the past couple years.

I think most of y’all were guessing that “Aw Naw” would likely leave first or at least were wanting it to given its overall vitriol. I don’t dislike this one as much as some of you, but that still wasn’t enough for it to escape my bottom 5. And although I’ve never seen Chris in concert I can see why this song would be a lot of fun in a live environment just as our host alluded to.
“Losing Sleep” is by far my least favorite song of his catalog and an instant station changer should it ever come on. Usually I can find something positive to say about a song, but in this case I’m at a loss for words. Glad this wasn’t able to escape the bottom 2 because that’s exactly where this belongs.
“Hangin’ On” is the more tolerable song from the Losing Sleep era, but even still I was just not a fan at all of the direction Chris went in with the production choices. I can only correlate this same turn Chris is taking to the one that Mark Wills took in that both of them started off with a traditional-leaning sound only to make a turn into churning out songs with a more pop-like infused production and arrangement.
I thought “Beer or Gasoline” would at least make it into the top 15 considering that it’s a fan favorite, but as someone alluded to in the predictions the song would be hindered by it being an unknown track for a handful of others. This is classic Chris, though, and I hope that he goes back to recording and releasing more songs like this one.
“Raised on Country” was a step in the right direction and all things considered it was a welcome sound from him, but it really can’t hold up to the rest of his discography. Speaking of, is there any particular reason why his next studio album was delayed as I thought that this was supposed to be the lead-off single to it.

The only reveal so far that hurt was "Raised on Country." Of the current sound of his career, this song has been one of the better ones. However, there is still much better from him, so while I at least would've liked a Top 15 finish for this, this spot isn't too bad either.

We clear our last #20 rank here at #14 - most of you predicted this song would finish just outside the top 10; it ended up falling a bit short of that range. #14: "Drowning" Album: TBA Points: 177 (24 points ahead of "You're Gonna Love Me", 15 points behind #13) Average Rank: 12.15 Standard Deviation: 3.897 (4th lowest) Country Radio Peak (Billboard): #25

I got to see "Drowning" live last November with a stripped-down arrangement (basically just a piano accompanying him) and it was beautiful - I really got sucked into the performance. I could tell that this song meant a lot to him just by hearing him introduce the song and talk about it - I'm sad it wasn't a bigger hit but with the state of the world currently, it probably wasn't meant to be. But it did give me hope that he still has it in him!

“Drowning” had potential but for me it was drowned by its pop production. It could’ve been great with some steel guitar, at least.
