"The Watch" is one of the most forgotten singles of the 2000's, even for low-charting ones. Our local station did play it, however, and it brings back memories of hearing it in my dad's car. It's such a well-written song with fantastic production and I enjoy Scotty's vocals. It's a grower too, takes more than one listen. As I'm the highest ranker of this song I probably should comment to this. So you basically have the same experience as the protagonist in that song lol But yeah the subdued production is great. Such an ode to women too!

I think Chris Cagle has a stronger voice than Brice Long but Anywhere But Here is still not a very special song. It's Only Monday would be slightly higher than my rank of Anywhere But Here because it is less boring. That video for I Ain't Your Mama is wild lol. I wonder how many times they did to make the Queen of Hearts show up right in front of camera. More by Rockie Lynne is lame, particularly the key change.

Surprised that "Wal-Mart Parking Lot" is out before "I'd Be Lying". Both are very good songs, but I thought the former might have a shot at top 20.
Looking at the top 40, it's a pretty ballad heavy lot, which i guess shouldn't surprise anyone. Randy Rogers Band still being in is a surprise to me though. Glad John Pierce is still around, and glad Steve Holy and Trent Willmon were able to get a song this far.

I think "Anywhere But Here's" melody is close to fantastic, especially for a ballad. There's definitely a reason two artists and two labels took a chance on it at radio, six months apart.

#40. Susan Haynes - "Drinkin' In My Sunday Dress"

It peaked at #46 on Mediabase in February of 2006. Susan's second single was "Crooked Little Heart," which was released in August of 2005 but failed to chart. Susan would leave Epic Nashville later in 2006 after Epic's Nashville division was closed.
This is a cover of a Maria McKee's song.
"Drinkin' In My Sunday Dress" is a fun song with an infectious melody and instrumentation. Its lyrics are a little "fly over your head" but it's always been one that I'm glad comes on my shuffle.

It peaked at #36 in December, but held on to the chart through January of 2006. The song was written by Steve Miller, Jeff Wood, Dean Chance and Teresa Chance. The album's first single (the title track) peaked at #50 on Mediabase in early 2005.
This was also Sawyer Brown's final charting single.
I'm pleasantly surprised this one did so well. I liked most of Sawyer Brown's post-80's output. I think most people are guilty of what this song is talking about, so it may come off as preachy, but I think it's executed well and drives home the point to not pass judgement on people.

"They Don't Understand" deserved better, but I figured since it was Sawyer Brown and a male voice, plus the topic can come across as preachy that it would get tanked by a certain few and they did not disappoint (or did really lol).
I remember in 2006 I listened to this song constantly. It was among my favorite songs of the year, was always disappointed that they didn't do better

"Wal-Mart Parking Lot" is probably my least favorite Chris Cagle song. I echo sabre14's sentiments about "Drinkin' In My Sunday Dress" 100% lol. "They Don't Understand" is too cheesy/corny in it's delivery for me to enjoy it.

Happy to see "Sunday Dress" make top 40 at least! Good showing for such a forgotten single/artist!

#38. Steve Holy - "Go Home"
Total Points: 650 Average: 50.0 Year Released: April, 2005 Mediabase Peak: #43 Billboard Peak: #49 Rankings:sabre14 - 4 kw9461 - 8 castleoblivion26 - 20 bboat11 - 32 Kanenrá:ke - 35 tim - 39 someguy - 48 gonecountry - 63 gardyfan - 64 LBTrocks - 70 recordyear - 72 Cody Wants Out... - 94 .indulgecountry - 101 Following: bigfan101"Go Home" by Steve Holy was released to country radio in April of 2005. It peaked at #43 on Mediabase in June, but held on to the chart until late July. The song was to be included on a new studio album, but that never materialized after the single's chart performance. Steve released five singles from 2002-2005 that were not on a studio album, although a couple made his Best of Steve Holy album in 2014. "Go Home" was written by Jim Collins and Curtis Wright.
This is my favorite Steve Holy single and I've enjoyed most of his singles. I so wish this and/or "It's My Time (Waste It If I Want To)" had been hits for him in 2005. I'm very happy this made it to the top 40 here and I'm thinking this is the highest a Steve Holy song has ever made it in any year-end type of rankdown.

Great song and my ranking of it only reflects how strong I think this rankdown is. It's got a terrific melody and some interesting lyrics.

The single peaked at #34 on Mediabase in July. Brad won Nashville Star in the show's second season in 2004 and immediately had his song "I Meant To" sent to radio. The song was off his album Patient Man off Epic Nashville. After two more singles off the album failed to make the top 50, Cotter left Epic in 2005. He released another album in 2009 called Right on Time off OMG Records. "I Meant To" was written by Brad Cotter, Steve Bogard and Rick Giles.
I really enjoy "I Meant To" but it's not as loved as many others in this rankdown, so it landed in my 70's. He was definitely a forgotten winner on Nashville Star. His time on Epic lasted just half a year.

Nashville in August of 2005. It peaked at #35 on Mediabase in early February of 2006, spending 22 weeks charting, which for a song that never cracked the top 30, was unheard of those days. The song was off Scott's album of the same name. It was written entirely by Ray Scott.
I love this song and love most of Ray's material. I think this song was just a country music anthem in 2005 but nowadays might be considered more of an indictment on today's mainstream country and radio lol.

I like the subject and meaning this song is portraying but I don't care for the melody and arrangement. I'm probably in the minority, but I always enjoyed "Run, Run, Run" much more.

Martina's version peaked at #46 on Mediabase in early March of 2006.
Great vocals and love the fiddle and mandolin, but the song's always been a little boring and never among my absolute favorites by Johnny Cash. I remember being a little surprised they went with this as the second single.

I'm kinda surprised to see Steve Holy in the top 40 especially with "Go Home' which isn't that great of a song.
Thrilled that Brad Cotter did so well because I wasn't expecting "I Meant To" to make it that far into the RD tbh. That song has always been one of my favs. Really great melody!

#32. Carolina Rain - "I Ain't Scared"
Total Points: 624 Average: 48.0 Year Released: September, 2004 Mediabase Peak: #41 Billboard Peak: #41 Rankings:LBTrocks - 3 sabre14 - 12 gonecountry - 17 Kanenrá:ke - 27 kw9461 - 27 castleoblivion26 - 33 Cody Wants Out... - 37 someguy - 53 .indulgecountry - 62 recordyear - 67 tim - 85 bboat11 - 96 gardyfan - 105 Following: bigfan101"I Ain't Scared" was released as Carolina Rain's debut single off Equity Music Group in early September, 2004. It peaked at #41 in November. The song was written by Stephony Smith, Gary Loyd and Rhean Boyer. It wasn't included on an album initially but later was put on their debut and only album, Weather the Storm in September of 2006.
Carolina Rain was a trio that first formed in 2003 by Rhean Boyer (lead vocals), Marvin Evatt and Jeremy Baxter. After turning down a record deal to keep their true sound intact, they signed with Clint Black's label, Equity Music Group. They released eight singles from 2004-2008. After Equity folded in January of 2009, they soon disbanded. Rhean continues to live in Nashville, while Evatt recently started recording solo music again.
No secret, I love Carolina Rain and they're a big "what if" at country radio. In the end, as much as I love they were able to keep their signature traditional-minded sound, Equity did them in. By 2008 that label had no steam left and it showed with "American Radio's" chart performance.

The single peaked at #49 on Mediabase the week before Christmas. It held on to the chart through January of 2007. The song was written by Miranda and Travis Howard.
Columbia Nashville threw in the towel pretty quick on this one and after the new year were done pushing it, despite it lasting a couple more weeks. I don't hate the song but it's definitely at the bottom of the barrel for Miranda's discography for me. It's kinda all over the place, although I do get late 2006 nostalgia hearing it lol.

Well that sucked lol.
"I Ain't Scared" is gorgeous, definitely my favorite from Carolina Rain and while I'm glad it made it so high it's too bad it was so close to the top 30 and missed.
"Crazy Ex Girlfriend" is a quintessential Miranda Lambert JAM and def deserved higher, but I guess I should be glad it made it as far as it did lol.

Kinda surprised that Dolly and Martina couldn't make the Top 30.
I'm thinking the Top 5 is going to be a clash of the (Pulse) titans.

The song was written by Deanna Bryant and Liz Hengber.
Julie Roberts released five singles for Mercury Nashville from 2004-2006, including the top hit, "Break Down Here" in 2004. After exiting Mercury, she released two more singles to radio independently, including "NASCAR Party" in 2011.
This is my least-favorite single of Julie's but it's still pretty good. It was a very odd second single choice.

Obsessed with “The Chance” back in the day. I loved Julie Roberts. I met her at CMA Fest in either 2005 or 2007 and she was so sweet.
