TV Dinner with Delores

Dinner with Delores was the only single released in support of Chaos & Disorder and it was pretty much a worldwide flop; completely missing the charts in America, it's highest peak anywhere was #36 in the UK. It was also the first song Prince ever premiered online via a special website dedicated to the album. It's been speculated widely it was written to take a dig at WB, with Delores being described as a dinosaur with a 1-track mind only concerned with satisfying her selfish appetite; he also referenced a bell being broken since 1984 - the same year he released Purple Rain, his most commercially successful project and whose template WB had been wanting him to replicate ever since.
"He's gay" used to mean he's happy
Nowadays happy ain't allowed
"You're played" used to mean top-40
Now 40 days of being played ain't proud...

Chaos and Disorder was based on a coda Prince had improvised to play at the end of Peach during live performances. He cut the full version of the song in fall 1993 and used it as the overarching "theme" for the album. Like Right the Wrong, he recorded a new version of the song in the album's last stages but stuck with the original version for the final release.
And it makes Prince album rankdown history as the first non-single to take home the win (without a single #1 ranking at that)!
Thanks for ranking! Next album coming soon!
