This was actually better than I expected for a Breland song, but... it was still a Breland song, lol.

Funny how all it takes is a comma to make LBTrocks fall in love with a terrible bro country mess!

As a general rule, I CANNOT STAND when songs are written around a popular idiom. "Close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades" does have the benefit of being one of the more clever idioms, that is also not severely overused, so it didn't rub me as wrong on first listen as it could have....but then the chanting of "close but no cigar" kicked in. And if there is anything that could make an idiom song any worse, it's a song that wraps itself around TWO idioms!!!! It is contrived af, and completely ruins any cleverness that may have been intended.
Which is too bad, because as a whole this is more tolerable than most things I have heard from Mitchell Tenpenny! It actually has a decent sound...if only I could ignore the hook.

Country, Boy, isn't great at all, a huge step down from Every Small Town, which I really liked.
Horseshoes and Hand Grenades was the best song from his newest EP. Other songs were okay, even as a fan of him.

I randomly added "Energy Follows Thought" after seeing that Willie had a new album coming, and it ended up being a great discovery for at least a couple people! tim and recordyear and Kris Kringle are companions in the top 10 this time. I think the lyrics for this one are quite strong, which is where most of the song's charm lies, but sonically it is also just not a song that I really want to listen to all that much. That being said, I think Willie actually sounds pretty great here! Willie has always had a uniquely rough voice, but I have really felt like I have heard his age in most of his recent recordings. This one sounds like he could have recorded it 10-15 years ago to me!

This one is just fine, but I think it gets kinda boring by the end. It kept falling a little more on my list every time I listened to it.

This one was all over the place throughout the submission process! In the end, 🌺CountryLineDancer's #1 gave it enough power to escape the bottom 5, but it was not able to do any better. I think this song has a nice uptempo vibe to it. Like, this is a song that will sound pretty great jamming with the windows down this summer! But I can also see people not really feeling the magic in other contexts. Better than a lot of Jake Owen's solo work, at least!

This is off to a good start. None of the songs that we've lost thus far are particularly good. "Country, Boy" and "11 Beers" were the two songs in this RD that I flat-out didn't like at all though. Both were awful.

I'm not totally sure why, but Danielle Bradbery really struggles to get support in this series compared to most other female artists! Other females struggle when their songs are terrible, but for some reason Danielle seems to consistently do poorly even when the songs are decent. Like, imagine this leaving now while something like "Downtown Baby" (which most people talked in its thread like it's the worst song of Caitlyn Smith's career) is still in, lmao.
I will be the first to admit that Danielle's material is frequently not up to par with her vocal talent, but this doesn't feel like something that should only barely miss the bottom 5...

"Back to God" is phenomenal but this new version was not it. Reba could've kept this one.

I should have probably used "Amazing Grace/My Chains are Gone" in this rank down, since that's the one that has been getting the most playlisting from Reba's new album, and even got an official lyric video. {Spoiler}
That being said, this acoustic version of "Back to God" is just soooooo much better than anything else on the album!! The original being remixed with Lauren Daigle back in the day was functionally useless, but this one is actually surprisingly really good! I absolutely love the way Reba sounds, and the fact that she gets to take all the high parts here despite singing with a much younger lady. That being said, I can see why a Jesusy song and an acoustic song would both be points counting against it here, making it difficult to compare to other "normal" songs in this playlist. Definitely better do MUCH better if we ever throw this into an album rankdown in the future!

I can understand thinking "Every Single Summer" sucks because it's generic or something, but man, the more I listen to it the more it gets stuck in my head! Definitely intrigued to see if it does anything on the radio!

"Every Single Summer" is a breezy summery bop! Hope it gets a lot of adds, while I'm not so optimistic.

"Downtown Baby" is a catchy jam, grew on me a lot! I understand that it is different from her other materials, but looks like radio is excited for it, so hope it becomes a decent hit!!

Based on how this one was received in her new single thread, there were probably songs that some of y'all would have rather seen from Caitlyn in this rankdown. But, due to its status as a new single, I felt it was the most "important" one to include out of her newer releases. And it honestly ended up doing pretty well here! It's nearly in the middle of this rankdown, and as far as female artists are concerned she is higher than Danielle and MaRynn AND proven Pulse faves like Reba and Lauren Daigle!!!

As for 11 Beers, I cannot say I was surprised at its low performance here. Even though it is likely to become a decent hit, I don't think this made its way to the YE RD, based on these rankings. I like Reklaws, and glad that they are getting another hit with a super catchy jam. I also realized that they are not well-received on Pulse in general so far, including the upcoming reveal of the 2018 RD.
Edit: This comment did not make it somehow, so posting again...
