Those vocal runs Reba did at the end of this new version of “Back to God” were HEAVENLY. Felt like magic. I had to go back and replay that last minute or so about ten times or so. Lovely version, and Lauren Daigle is phenomenal.

"Married in a Honky Tonk" has a premise that I really enjoy! Conceptually this is a song that SHOULD be a jam. And in a lot of ways, it is! But there is still something about it that just feels kinda "there" to me. The energy falls flat for some reason.
I think it's a mixture of the melody being a bit monotonous, and the arrangement holding back too much. This song could have benefitted from being an unashamed honky tonk rocker, Terri Clark/Gretchen Wilson-style! Imagine this having a slightly faster tempo, screaming fiddles, and a more attitude-filled performance, similar to something like "Emotional Girl"! I know comparing somebody's honky tonk abilities to Terri Clark isn't really a fair comparison, as Terri has that niche on lockdown so completely that I'd be surprised if anyone was ever able to do it better than her. But you get the point. The arrangement of "Married in a Honky Tonk" just sounds like all the musicians are holding back for some reason when they should be playing their hearts out to get the full live honky-tonk performance effect.

Pulse seems to be acting up right now (it took me like 10 minutes for that last comment to finally post), so I'll go ahead and take a little break. Definitely be prepared to finish tomorrow though!

25. Breland continues to suck and relies on major artist feature (technically not that major anymore since the album is out after 3 weeks on chart) for hits. This song reminds me of S.O.B. or a Jon Batiste song in a bad way and is rather cringe.
24. Why do the new males need to affirm their "country roots" so much? Also useless comma right there.
23. Meh. Mitchell Tenpenny is still a Sam Hunt wannabe as he put too many syllables in some of the lines in the first verse, and the "close but no cigar" chants sound so out of place.
22. Man Willie cannot catch a break in Pulse. Of the three pre-order songs from this album, this is the most suitable to showcase because it is an original song written by Willie. The production of late-career Willie records are so consistent and this song is warm and has a nice message, but his vocals are understandably polarizing. Still it shouldn't be bottom 5 here. (P.S. why does the RYM score for his latest album so high?)
21. This is the best song from Chayce's EP and given this still didn't escape bottom 5, I doubt any other songs will do better. Decent message judging from mainstream side, and more acoustic leaning melodies as opposed to something weirdly produced are nice touches. I guess it comes down to vocals again but I find his vocals on the better side (but I am reminded this forum stans Brett Young's vocals so...)
20. Decent for HARDY co-wrote standards. Finally a better production on Jake Owen's vocals.
19. Danielle Bradbery stop copying Caitlyn Smith (the better you) please. (Obviously written by Caitlyn Smith also)
18. The OG Christian poster of the year ranked this at #16 and you expect the rest of us to rank it higher lol. It's still a decent song but it's definitely weaker than the original and all things considered, it's just a song of all time.
17. Wow she really feels like Kelsea Ballerini 2.0 and I didn't know she was signed to Black River before having such thought lol. A decent if not a bit boring pop rock song.
16. This really has a last place rank lol. 10 bucks this will perform better if more non-country posters join this because this gets the most important feature of pop music that is missing in a lot of country pop nowadays---catchiness. The chorus is just so fun to sing with and you can feel her cutesy delivery rather easily.
15. Of three songs I suggested for this month's rankdown I hoped this was the highest. Really funny (toilet paper veil) and youthful song that I thought would be connected here more.

It's still a decent song but it's definitely weaker than the original and all things considered, it's just a song of all time. The comma is actually necessary to make the song grammatically correct, as the "country boy" hook is always used in a way that is addressing someone. It would be like me saying, "Do you want to take a drive out in the country, Flops?" when talking to LBTrocks. Doesn't make the song any better though. And LMAO don't let zaclord 🌈's outdated Christian Poster win trick you into thinking he has trustworthy taste in country women 😂 He could compare Reba with Hailey Georgia and end up ranking Reba lower just because her career started before the '00s!

Sorry, Reba 💔

Maren hasn't had a lot of luck on Pulse with her new material, as it seems her album has been a bit of a letdown for us. "Humble Quest" barely sneaking into the top 15 is a pretty big letdown from "Circles Around This Town" winning this thing a couple months ago!
I think this is one of the better songs on the album, so I was hoping it could at least make the top 10. I really like the melody in the verses!

Maren hasn't had a lot of luck on Pulse with her new material, as it seems her album has been a bit of a letdown for us. "Humble Quest" barely sneaking into the top 15 is a pretty big letdown from "Circles Around This Town" winning this thing a couple months ago! I echo everything I just said! Once again, quite a letdown compared to what we expect from Maren in these rankdowns. Although "Nervous" has been one of the wider-praised songs on the album, so this is even more of a letdown! However, it is not universally-liked, as evidenced by the fact that it ended up being our most polarizing song. Personally I like the vibe that the verses set, but then I find the chorus to be pretty annoying. The fact that this made it as high as it did on my list is a testament to how well I like Maren, because by her standards this is one of my less-favorites from her. It's definitely a necessary moment of energy on her album though.

"Hate This Hometown" is pretty good! It is pleasant, albeit a little forgettable. Definitely willing to hear more from Erin Kinsey though! This was our most consistent #9 contender, but unfortunately couldn't survive getting several of its lower ranks towards the last few submissions...

Kane Brown has been having a really nice country vibe to his music lately! I usually find 'fast ballads' in 6/8 time to wear on me pretty quickly, hence my lower rank for this, but I do enjoy the overall vibe! "Leave You Alone" was never a top 10 contender, but it did gradually rise for the entire submission period to become a solid top 15 contender. I forgot to mention, Kane and Erin are both members of a 3-way tie, with Kane coming out a head of Erin due to a #5 and 6 rank against Erin's #5 and #7 Yet the overall winner of the 3-way tie got to sneak into the top 10, due to being somebody's #1!

The winner of the 3-way tie ended up being Randy Houser with his first new song to take place in this series, kicking off his New Releases debut with a top 10 finish! Personally I found this one to be pretty forgettable, but it's okay. Randy is a great vocalist, and it's definitely better than a lot of things he has put out through the years!

"Hate This Homteown" is pretty awesome, but Just Drive rocks. Kinda frustrated that it has not debut on the chart yet, despite its decent adds.
Note To Self is amazing. So glad to see him back with a strong song.

14. Boring melody and pretentious lyrics. 13. Good job at making a sexy song not sexy at all. 12. Hard to hate this song but it's not particularly good either. 11. A typical 3/4 time song that has decent dynamic except the guitar may be over the top for a bit (Still better than the new single though) 10. Typical theme but well sung (akin to Ronnie Dunn sometimes).

Sad to see "Nervous" out. It's literally one of 3 good songs on Maren's new album outside of the lead single. I understand why some wouldn't love it but seeing so many low ranks (especially since this isn't particularly a great list of songs) was surprising to me. Glad it at least outlasted "Humble Quest" which is a snooze.
Hoping Dolly and Abbie are the next two out.

Here I thought I was going to be one of the lower ranks for Maren Morris by *only* putting "Humble Quest" at #9, lmao. OTOH, I am glad to see I'm not alone in my dissatisfaction with "Nervous." While the title track from her new album is decent, this one is more of a miss for me. It's probably in my bottom 5 of all the songs Maren's ever put out, if I were to actually sit down and sift through all of them.

Where Did All The Cowboys Go - Abbie Anderson Hoping Dolly and Abbie are the next two out. Not bboat11 randomly deciding to spell Abby's name in a weird way and it catching on. She literally spells her name the most logical and common way that one possibly could. And yet somehow got Catie Offerman's name right despite the opposite being true, lol.

They all make equal sense. Either way, I'm a teacher in the 21st century. It would not feel natural for me to assume that "common" is going to be the default. Some of these kids lately be giving off serious Abbeigh vibes

Abbeigh Anderson indeed bows out next, much to zaclord 🌈's bizarre elation! I have not found Abby to be very consistent so far as an artist, but this is one of the best things I have ever heard from her! I was so glad to see it hang on for a top 10 finish This one has been stuck in my head since I first heard it, which is a bit odd for a ballad, but I really love the melody.
