Sliding easily into last place, we have the song that I almost forgot to include and then snuck it in after I had already posted the list... Although, clearly it seems we wouldn't have cared if it was left out entirely! Honestly, if I just heard this song and took it at face value, I would assume it was a joke... The theme is SO hokey, and the vocals are even worse! But alas, it was not a joke at all, and the masses connected with it, ran with it, and took it all the way to the top of the Hot 100....  It's not as bad as "Try That In A Small Town", but I'm getting reeeeaaaaaaalllllly tired of the celebration of hickdom being the type of country music that is gaining popularity lately.... And yeah, this is just not for me at all. Especially when this song claims to be against big government and politicians, and yet goes out of its way to parrot the whole "obese milking welfare" talking point that completely undermines the entire point of the song by painting fellow poor people as the bad guy in a song that is supposedly anti-government and pro-poor-people... |

This song is fine and he's had some solid ones (love his duet with Tori Kelly, i.e.), but Chris Lane is definitely one of those middle-of-the-road male country artists who we could've let just fade into obscurity. He didn't need a revival.

🌺CountryLineDancer I legitimately just went back and double-checked your list to make sure I didn't drastically screw something up By now, it has been almost a decade of Chris Lane contributing absolutely nothing noteworthy to this genre. If you'd have told me back when he debuted that "Fix" was going to go down in history as his best song, I would have asked that we just forgo the entire career then. But alas...

"Have a Good Time" has a beautiful country arrangement! But imo the whole thing just falls a little flat compared to what is left in this list. I like that it sounds like it's trying to have fun, but it has the common Darius Rucker problem of just sounding like it plods along and isn't as catchy as it's trying to be, at least to my ears.

I wasn't big on HunterGirl's debut after American Idol, so I went into this one with very low expectations. But this one is a significant improvement to my ears! The message is powerful, and her voice delivers it well. Overall this one wasn't hated in general, but it failed to gain much top-half support. Most of its ranks landed in the bottom half of the top 20, which sunk it in a list that was overall pretty strong!

This has surprisingly grown on me a lot and I likely wouldn't have it last place anymore. It would probably be at least closer to #20 if I re-ranked it now. She still sounds like a poor man's Ella Langley vocally and "Ain't About You" is a weird choice for a debut single because literally nothing about it screams radio song, but it did pull in a good chunk of adds so I guess we'll see how it does. Maybe it'll be a top 10 hit by February 2025. |

I agree that some of the lyrics/points in the song are questionable to say the least, but overall I have to say that I agree a LOT with much of what the song is saying. I actually saved it for a while... but I eventually couldn't handle his voice anymore, lol. I like the song itself too, musically speaking. But his voice would ultimately make me skip the song before making it all the way thru lol. |

Catie Offerman has been disappointing me lately... After really liking her first few songs, I'm not sure what is happening. "Ask Me To Dance" is just boring. Like it has a strong arrangement at first glance, and then the entire thing just feels like it has no energy whatsoever after about 30 seconds of hearing the vocals.

"Good With Me" was decent-ish, but Walker Hayes is very hit or miss with me. Mostly miss, lol.
I'm so not a Darius Rucker fan... still waiting for that wonderfully country album he wanted to make way back in the day lol
"Ain't About You" sucks lol. Her voice is pretty terrible too, and the name HunterGirl is laughable. Hard pass.
"Ask Me To Dance" is meh. I like Catie Offerman's voice, but the song and that Hayes Carll dude didn't do it for me. I'm seeing her live in a couple weeks with Michael Ray and Jackson Dean.

Morgan Wade has not been connecting with Pulse as strongly with her second era. "27 Club" is pretty good to me though! I thought this one was solid, and has strong lyrics, but simply fell lower on my list due to the strength of everything else. This is still one that would probably be pretty high though if I listened to and ranked the album.

Oh good! I was afraid "27 Club" would do well here, lol. This is one of the most BORING songs I've heard in a long time. It was truly a chore to even listen to enough of it to rank it. Easy last place.
Morgan Wade isn't for me I guess. I haven't liked anything she's put out and I'm not crazy about her voice either. Maybe with the right material she'd be fine.

We got rid of the right Tim McGraw song first! I can't even remember this one but I know I didn't like it. Lori McKenna continues to do nothing for me as a singer/songwriter.

Aside from that song title being an absolute pain in the ASS to type out.... This song is solid! I really like the lyric, "If God made the two cities closer, I'd be right beside you. But then where would the Grand Canyon be?" Although the #1 thought I have had every time I have listened to this is what a missed opportunity it is not having this be one of the many songs where Faith is his background vocalist. Lori still sounds fine, but this really feels like the sort of song where Tim/Faith's natural chemistry could have shone!

This was... fine. I actually was a bit underwhelmed by Timmy's latest record. I've listened to it a handful of times and almost nothing has stuck with me outside of the title track which I LOVE. Glad that did well for him, but I'd be surprised if anything else from the project came anywhere close to replicating its success on the country charts at this point.

"Can't Break Up Now" has had a polarizing reception on Pulse so far, but I am starting to like it quite a bit! I might have even underranked it here. It's got a unique vibe to it of the kind where I am absolutely not surprised to see it getting some initial hate...but I am starting to think it is a high-risk-high-reward sort of situation! And Old Dominion is in a position to where they need a song like that if they want to be relevant for much longer. Plus Megan Moroney is positioned perfectly to potentially benefit from this situation as well continuing her massive career launch.

"Can't Break Up Now" is awful lol. The verse doesn't flow at all, and the rest of the song just drags on and on. As much as I like Old Dominion in concert and just as people when I met them (they're amazing guys, so nice and down to earth) most of their music just isn't my thing.
Megan Moroney was good on this, but I don't like the style of song and I wish she'd stop recording such... abysmal music. We need more country jams like "Lucky" from her!
