Other than three minor spikes, "I'd Take Another One Of Those" was a solid top 15 contender for the entire submission process, and settled in comfortably in the 9-10 range for the entire second half of the rankdown. Some of us might be shocked by how well this one did, but it definitely earned this high placement, with almost half of us ranking it within our own top 10!
I think that Shenandoah still sounds like they've got it, despite obvious aging, and ZBB complement this song nicely. It's just such a pleasant and easy-going song to listen to, even the sack of bologna sandwiches line didn't bother me! Lmao if anything, it made the song more endearing, because it was a specific image that I could latch onto that made the day fishing with grandpa seem downright palpable :)

It might be a devastating blow to some to see Mickey leaving already... As a former winner of one of these things with "Black Like Me", she probably seemed like a safe bet for the top 5. Unfortunately, she lost her top 5 status pretty quickly. She had no trouble settling into the #8 spot, however, and was never at risk of falling out of the top 10, because she did continue to rake in plenty of high ranks. Looking at her distribution, she only had one bottom 5, and the rest of her "low" ranks were largely middling.

"love and hate" was included at austin's request, so it is only fitting that he should have put it at #1!! Kelsea Ballerini shocked us all in September when she surprise-rereleased her recent kelsea album with more acoustic/country versions of every song, this time appropriately titled ballerini. Now between the two of them, she has a two-disc self-titled album with more poppy and country versions of every song, kinda like Shania Twain back in the Up! days. So while all of these new Kelsea Ballerini songs have been out for a few months, I felt it would be appropriate to honor her "new" album by having us rank one of the new recordings! "love and hate" definitely is one that I have come to appreciate quite a bit as I have been listening to it this past month. I really need to check out the rest of her ballerini album soon!

When it comes time in 2021 to resume her series and rank Up! I just wanted to let y'all know that you're free to either rank the red or green version, whichever you prefer. You can mix and match as well! And you don't really need to tell me which one you're ranking unless you feel like it lol.

Wow, I honestly thought "Bridges" was a contender for at least the top 3 if not top 2. I actually initially had this one as my top ranking song as well.

Well that's quite disappointing nonetheless but at least LBTrocks came through at the end and pushed this one spot closer to the top 5 (I rarely ever get a chance to say that so take the compliment!). Jamie's latest album is surprisingly really good with quite a few standout tracks including "Closer to Closure". I liked this one from the first moment I heard it and it's only gotten better since then. Quite puzzled by the fact that this would be the most polarizing song though!

Anyway, there you have it. "Closer To Closure" was a decently strong top 5 contender for much of the submission process, but it never could quite manage to shake the occasional low rankings. For every few people that loved it, there would be one who seemingly hated it. That was why, despite being placed in the top 5 by more than half of the participants, it ended up barely missing the top 5, as well as being our most polarizing song!!
This was a super easy choice for #1 for me. I have had this song on repeat since the day it came out. Because of this song, I honestly feel like Jamie O'Neal existed in the wrong era. This song sounds like a HUUUUUGE smash hit for any of our modern females! In fact, I hear elements of all of them here. The songwriting is very Kelsea Ballerini, the guitar work is very Lindsay Ell, the vocals are very Maren Morris (especially in the adlibs in the end), etc. It's like it literally takes the best parts of all of them, and makes it all somehow even better than any of them by themselves. This is ready to be a big hit on Country radio....if only Jamie wasn't a 55 year-old woman whose radio career has been over for nearly 15 years... :'(

I mentioned this to bboat11 but I think Jamie would make for a great artist to have an album rankdown series for and with him hosting of course!

One more comment about Jamie's age. She is literally the same age as Reba was when she put out "Turn On The Radio". Now, I know I always rave about how well Reba's voice is aging, but still...she has definitely gotten a noticeably deeper voice through the years. 2010 Reba sounds noticeably older than 1990 Reba... And yet here's Jamie freaking O'Neal, still sounding exactly the way she did in her prime. (Honestly, I think a big part of it comes down to the fact that her star died out quickly enough that she hasn't had nearly as rigorous of a touring schedule as most artists do... )

Because if your submission would have been the one to allow Jamie to have finished in the top 5, you are never skipping one of these things ever again ;)

Absolutely love "Same Devil" and I'm glad it found its way into the top 5 because that is exactly where I had it before second guessing myself. I wasn't sure how this would be received either but it far and away exceeded my expectations.

Yea bboat11 why you gotta be so cold??? Honestly though I'm not surprised as this song doesn't sound anything remotely like something he'd like at all.
