Payola’s in full effect with this song lmao I smell hella payola. Why her other singles not do as well. Makes you wonder ^ Yeah, Tik Tok payola did help it out a lot. I predict the call outs for this will be horrible Spotify Payola on TTH keeping the streaming numbers afloat Since hasn't been posted, Ill post it. PAYOLA!!! Payolaing its way to the top. This song is only a hit because of shameless radio payola, it's been awful on sales and streaming for MONTHS now How am I wrong? My Oh My is #65 on iTunes, #85 on Spotify and #181 on Apple Music. This is only a hit because of the radio payola, I am just saying the truth. The payola just doesn't stop to get into the Top 10, a Diplo remix and a dance video, it's quite shameless. We been knew it was payola. the payola ran out I see...hope she snags a Marshmello collab or something Honestly, I'm never one to cry payola and think it's thrown around too often... but, surely, severe case of PAYOLA?

Wasn't the common payola practice at one time in the early 2000's for labels to basically pay for overnight play to boost songs up some. I also thought I read something about labels buying advertisement time and having the song played as the advertisement.
A poster brought up Celine's "I Drove All Night". It reached num. 27 at pop radio. A year earlier her song "A New Day Has Come" reached num.25. I did remember being happy but a little confused when I heard "I Drove All Night" on our local Top 40 station a few times because they didn't play anything from what I can remember from her prior cd. I just thought they were giving her new uptempo song a try. I think that song was promoted well but it came and went pretty fast that I don't remember the time completely anymore.

I also thought I read something about labels buying advertisement time and having the song played as the advertisement. I remember both of those tactics. It was easy to tell what songs were receiving payola on Mediabase when you would see that many stations (usually owned by the same company) weren't playing a particular song during the day but would play it a handful of times in the middle of the night every night (which would also mean they had low audience numbers based on their spin numbers).

I remember Selena Gomez’s “Hands To Myself” had a one week aggressive push to #1 on Pop radio, only to free fall right after it was officially #1.

The trend I notice for songs that benefit from payola is they tend to have poor audience callouts but keep gaining on radio, until they reach a limit and suddenly freefall.
Two examples that come to mind from my experience as a chart watcher are "Hey Look Ma, I Made It" and "My Oh My". It doesn't mean these two only got successful due to payola, but there was likely some behind the scenes scheming to boost their performances to make up for nearly non-existent streaming.

honestly break my heart because it had lots of radio payola even tho it had good callouts and its spotify today's top hits residency couldn't save its subpar numbers. seems like levitating will follow.
