Ever feel like there are hit songs that are hated at the time but overtime you've come to like or love? Especially as music ages and trends evolve, re-examining music that was hated by law and maybe finding out that there's actually quality in it and maybe people were just blinded by anger to see the it. But overtime, I've grown fond of a few songs I once despised.
To be fair, this isn't just a thread of unpopular opinions towards hit songs, it has to be a song you hated or at least disliked at the time but have come around since then.
There are a ton of songs for me, mostly trap songs, but the biggest change came for Shake It Off by Taylor Swift. I remember in 2014 every absolutely hated it, and I mean hate. There wasn't a list of the worst hits of that year that didn't have it. I remember, I was one of those people who hated it as well. Of course, this was back when I didn't like anything Taylor Swift and since then, 1989 has become a favorite of mine and I've even defended Taylor quite a bit. Going back to the song now, I wouldn't say I love it, I also think the hate for it was way oversold. Not only has it aged a lot better than many hits that year, separated from the "audacity" of Taylor Swift to "write another kiss-off to the haters", it's a fine song. It's fun to sing-a-long and dance to, it's catchy, it's upbeat, I even had it in rotation for awhile. I still understand if you don't like it but considering the songs that were also hits that year (Rude, Loyal, All About that Bass, just to name a few of many (2014 was not a good year for popular music)), it didn't deserve the scorn it got.

Kelly Clarkson - Dark Side.
I’m not sure why I didn’t like it at first but now it’s one of my favorites by her.

The first few times I heard "Wannabe" by The Spice Girls I didn't care for it and then I saw the obnoxiousness for what it was and ended up loving it.
"Thank God I Found You"- MiMi. Being a huge Mariah fan I was disappointed. I liked 98' and Joe at the time and the song just wasn't what I wanted apparently. Then the remix came out and I LOVED it. Between that and the video I ended up getting into the original.
"I Will Always Love You"- Whitney Houston. Being a HUGE Whitney fan I was kind of "Eh" about it the first few times I heard it. I heard an early preview of "I Have Nothing" when Whitney debuted a preview of "The Bodyguard" on the Arsineo Hall Show. It was AMAZING. So when I first heard "I Will Always Love You" and the song taking so long to build in my 15 year old mind. I wanted the song in the preview. lol. I shortly grew to love "IWALY" but for awhile "I Have Nothing" was my favorite out of the two.
"Exhale" (shoop shoop)- Whitney. What was this understated midtempo ballad with One big note... lol For ages I liked "Why Does It Hurt So Bad" a lot more.
"Heartbreak Hotel"- Whitney/Faith and Kelly Price. Why weren't 3 big voiced diva's not in a screaming match for a whole song...?

I kind of hated Taylor Swift - Shake It Off, Kelis - Milkshake, Katy Perry - Teenage Dream, and Karmin - Brokenhearted when they were first popular but then grew to like them later on.

"Bleeding Love" by Leona Lewis
Growing up, my dad said it was god awful and changed the station every time we heard it. One day, I was sitting in my room alone with the radio on and heard it in full for the first time. I realized that in fact was a massive melodramatic banger, but kept it a secret for years.
My father is the main reason I know like 7 Madonna songs total

There was actually a time when I didn't care for Starship's "We Built This City" whenever it came on the radio, and now I love it. Same with Billy Ocean's "Loverboy". Everytime it came on, I would switch the station. It would drive me bananas. lol I just wasn't impressed whenever I hear those strange beats in the intro. I finally did let the song just played one day without switching, and I started to like it. Now, I definitely consider it one of my fave Billy Ocean songs.
I also wasn't very fond of J. Lo's "If You Had My Love". Didn't really cared for her at first. Every time the video came on Vh-1, I would switch it. I remember being so sick of it because they played it so damn much, but I grew to love her overtime.

While I'm here I'm gonna add "Rolling In The Deep" to my list. I never was a fan of it until 2020 rolled around, and now I really dig it lol.

Not sure if this actually hit the pop charts in the US but The Heavy - How Ya Like Me Now was so overused in commercials (as well as bumper music on the News/talks shows; Today, GMA, etc) in the late 2000s/early 2010s that I couldn't stand it. Nowadays, I love the song. So funky!
I also hated Rick Astley's Never Gonna Give You Up when I was younger. The song was a staple on the Hot AC/AC/Adult Top 40 stations during the 90s/00s. Even with the Rickroll'd meme, I have grown to like this song. I still cringe at the soundalike follow-up "Together Forever", though.
There are a few others that I can't think of at this moment.

Call Me Maybe also didn't deserve all the hate it got back in 2012, if only because it prevented people from knowing the greatness that is EMOTION.
