Artists have been gaming the system on the Hot 100 since the 90s. What’s the difference between what is happening now and Mariah’s physical .69 cent singles in the 90s. For years Nicki got trashed for ‘never getting a #1,’ when really all it was is that she never gamed the system for a #1. Had she been this ‘desperate’ during “Anaconda” I’m sure that could’ve hit #1 then too had she served remixes and discounts. Now she’s showing the world she could’ve gotten that #1 a long time ago, but it wasn't a priority until y’all made it one.

As for the second week drop, not necessarily. A remix released mid-week will mean it’s going to trickle over into the 2nd week tracking period and prevent it from having a big fall. They are within reach for a #1 debut so why the hell nit. It’s a good move.
