Not all of this M5 vs Cardi thing
It's pretty simple, M5 have always been popular and chose the rapper with the most buzz at the moment with a catchy mega radio-friendly song.
Kind of the perfect formula for a huge single honestly.

Unpopular Opinion : Cardi B is a trash rapper, but her influence is good. Without her, we wouldnβt have had Doja Cat, Megan Thee Stallion, and Saweetie getting hits. She broke the Nicki Minaj monopoly of female rap.

She broke the Nicki Minaj monopoly of female rap. I completely agree, Iggy broke the mold with her #1 smash and since then, other female rappers like Lizzo, Cardi, Doja and Meghan have been shining. Iβm hoping at least one of them manage a second successful era though, because Nicki needs another girl on her level. I agree. Since Iggy Azeleaβs debut, four Female rappers have gone on to score number one hits as lead artists, some even solo, and in their debut eras at that. Since Cardi B, three Female rappers have done so and in such close proximity also. The βBodak Yellowβ hitmakerβs impact is certainly palpable. Iβm hoping other Female rappers follow suit as the decade progresses, some sooner than others. ππΏ

They worked with one of the hottest rappers at the time to record Girls Like You, which also had a very βcatchyβ fun video that people watched over and over.

Maroon 5 have been pretty adept at keeping up with music trends period. Been charting since 2003. Only a handful of the top artists from 2003 still chart with any regularity.

I donβt agree at all that Iggy opened doors to any female rappers. She piggy backed off of the female rappers that came before her. Missy Elliot, Lil Kim, Salt n Pepa, Nikki Minaj, Eve, Lauren Hill, Da Brat...so many others.
The female rappers today would still be here with or without Iggys 1 year of relevance.

Remy found the keys Nicki hid and gave them to Cardi so she unlocked the door and kept it open ever since and since it's been open even Nicki got herself a #1.

Iggs could've still been on a major label. They probably didn't know what to do after "Fancy" and "Black Widow" blew up. Imo, she could've been featured more, but her lashing back and forth didn't help either?

If youβre delusional enough to argue that she did so and helped βbreak the moldβ from a commercial perspective then go ahead. Sonically? No. Musically? No. Artistically? No.

Imo, she could've been featured more, but her lashing back and forth didn't help either? All in all, (if it wasnβt for her past social media controversy) she couldβve had a career as a crossover Pop/Rapper in the vein of βFlo Ridaβ and βPitbullβ or become a βFergieβ-lite of sorts. She may not have had much career longevity, but she couldβve lasted several more hit singles and potential number ones but just not be taken seriously as an albums artist. Regardless, she wouldβve cemented herself as a 2010βs icon to a degree. The backlash, and her tone-deaf responses to it most of the time, completely ruined any chance of a comeback especially where radio was concerned. Now in the Streaming era, where most success is totally in the hands of the consumer and their streams, she could be revived if she scores a viral hit but I highly doubt it.

She still gets high Youtube views whenever she puts out videos. Both KREAM and Sally Walker did chart (for one week lmao) - so a viral hit isn't out of the question. But yeah, glad her time in the spotlight's done. I'll gladly take Cardi, Megan, Doja or even Nicki over her, and I almost never take Nicki over anything.

I was saying this in a chat before. If TikTok was booming when SW, Kream, and Started hit, she would definitely have some hits independently. Which would obviously be a good thing for her.

No. I agree, even Iggyβs singles were mostly pop and blew up because of the featured artists and not because of Iggy. There was also a 3 year gap between Iggy and Cardi where Remy Ma was the only female rapper other than Nicki to do well on the charts (Maybe Dej Loaf if you consider her a rapper) and even then, it was only 1 song that peaked at #7 and contained lots of male rappers alongside her. Cardi opened the door for other female rappers to get solo #1s on the Hot 100. Look, even her first track to chart was a solo hit. Even Tyga and Quavo couldnβt revive Iggyβs career.

Look ya'll don't have to respect Cardi as a rapper, but don't be acting like oh Cardi didn't open doors she piggybacked nope she came in and respected everyone (Yes including Nicki) made music even haters turn up too.. so many female rappers debuting on the charts now could you say that 10 years ago? Nope.

Iggy didn't open doors lmao. You all somehow forget she was entirely panned and cancelled altogether by the public after just 1 Summer, and I'm not trying to be mean. She actually kind of set female rap back. Not to mention she was apart of the era when white R&B/Hip-Hop artists were clearly getting the backing in favor of black artists making R&B/Hip-Hop music so to say she opened the door for them is actually kind of offensive. She lowkey made it harder for black female rappers at the time, but that's another story.
As for female rappers getting big since 2018, I think that has more to do with streaming taking off than it does Cardi B. We're all aware streaming taking off made Hip-Hop more successful than ever, which ofcourse, would then open the door for female rappers to be more successful than ever. Cardi herself was a product of the streaming era allowing huge success for Hip-Hop.
Just like streaming put R&B females back on the map after just a Rihanna/Beyonce monopoly for a decade, and now we have Jhene/Summer/SZA/H.E.R/Lizzo/Ella Mai getting Platinum albums. It wasn't a single artist who opened a door or made something hot again more than it was just an overall climate shift.

Are Troolz sales so far anything special? Being on twitter would make you think itβs smashing there if nowhere else but Iβm skeptical of that, not so skeptical of the power of the Barbz however

^Now that the explicit and clean version at #1 and #3 in iTunes and there's bundles, I'm pretty sure it should obliterate any sales by any other song this week. I guess 6ix9ine and Nicki are not leaving a potential #1 debut in the Hot 100 to chance.

^If you ask me. This is a typical frontloaded song in sales and streaming. BTW, it was already below Gooba at Spotify yesterday.
