The next reveal is of a one-and-done band (meaning, this is their debut and their only ranking opportunity)

Their other charting single on Album Rock was called "Exception of Love". So, like, you can tell this is a thinking man's band. 85

#84 and #83 are tied. #84 lost out because its highest ranking is merely a top 40. Though, it also only has one bottom 10 (which is a bottom 5).

It says something about how bad 1988 Active was, that I still think "Rock n' Roll Strategy" is the worst .38 Special song we've ranked, but I also ranked it higher than I did "Back To Paradise". 84

Winning the tie, is a song where every one of its 3 top 50s is higher than Paradise's highest ranking. However, 5 people applied a bottom 5 to this song.

Aw, not even with Every Time You Go Away? Sad.
Down to 4 bottom 10s and I think they're all leaving sooner rather than later?
America: Too long and a song with that title deserves better.
Anything Goes: Couldn't really tell the Allman songs apart, but this one was slightly worse.
Winner Takes It All: Over the Top was a bad movie, people. Even with the scene where trucker Stallone driving his rig into a mansion. You expect the song to be good?
I'm No Angel: Slightly better, but pretty nondescript.
Battleship Chains: I enjoyed I Love You Period, but despite its blues rocking, the lyrics killed this one for me.
Into the Fire: Bryan Adams is better at the uptempo songs than the ballads.
The Secret of My Success: I think this was the title track to the movie? The guitar was the best part here, but nothing was bad about it.
Radio Waves: Got into this one in the Modern Rock rankings and nothing's changed.
Walk on Fire: Kind of generic, but OK.
Throwaway: I guess I'm not a fan of solo Jagger. This song truly lives down to its title as it gets worse as it goes.
We just let both David Bowie songs escape the bottom 10? OK.
It's Not Over: The vocals were fine here, but that chorus was meh and I think they overdid the drum machines.
Who Owns This Place: Now I don't mind solo Henley, but I couldn't get with this one.
Day In Day Out: A top 25 for this? OK. Nothing's changed my mind from when I heard this in Modern Rock.
Give to Live: Hagar is OK here, but I think he's done better?
Weapons of Love: Not quite my favorite discovery (it was #25, btw), but rock solid song nonetheless.
Back to Paradise: This was a solid enough tune.
Dude (Looks Like a Lady): Song rocked proper, but boy those lyrics haven't aged well at all.
Miss You: For 80s Clapton, this wasn't too bad.
Cool the Engines: Not quite the order I went with, but all three tunes ended up in my middle section. They did better than some bands who debuted here (no fair telling who).

100. America - KBC BandBand was formed by former Jefferson Airplane members, but somehow failed to inject any Jefferson Airplane greatness into this song. It was a task to sit through ,and I really could't do anything with it but let it free fall down the list. 99. Anything Goes - The Gregg Allman BandI'm not the biggest Gregg Allman fan. This wasn't too bad. I kinda enjoyed the Steve Winwood vibe I got for the music here. 98. Winner Takes It All - Sammy HagarI bet my entire life I'm the only here who owns 'Over The Top' on DVD. Or who has seen it for that matter. You need to love the movie to love the song. 97. I'm No Angel - The Gregg Allman BandI was a tad nicer to this one. Letting it crack my top 70. It was alright. It really just sounded like a Miller beer commercial. 96. Battleship Chains - The Georgia SatellitesI don't recall If I liked this one better than the other one. It's really not my thing, and I don't like "Jon" Satellite's vocals at all. Some how I think their other song here is even worse. 95. Into the Fire - Bryan AdamsNot the most exiting Bryan Adams song, but still Bryan Adams. Which would explain why most of you tanked it. 94. The Secret of My Success - Night RangerYou guys wouldn't know a great AOR band if it came up and bit you in the ass. Night Ranger rules. This was one of my favorite rediscoveries. The intro reminds of the way the guitars were played on Rick Springfield's "Bop Til' You Drop" ,but that's just the start of the fun, Those who watched the video got to see Vince Neil and Tommy Lee and what appears to be Weird "Al" on the brass section. That part adds some real nrg to the song. The real reason I flip for the band are Jack Blades vocal fire. You got Kelly Keagy too, but Jack has perfect 80's rock tones. Much like Rick Springfield. Most of these Soundtrack songs really left an impact on me because of multiple views, and probably heard it more times than it was actually played on the radio?. Also depending on what songs were left as extras, but if "Girls Girls Girls" had made the cut this might have fallen to my #11 slot. Maybe? here is the actual video where you get to see Tommy,Vince and Al. It s right after the first chorus. Blink and you will miss it. 93. Radio Waves - Roger Waters Obviously this one took a dive on my rock list, but I still liked it more than the Pink Floyd stuff. That's all I'm gonna say. 92. Walk on Fire - Little AmericaFirst time listen. Aside for the decent vocals the song was boring and forgettable. Sounded like the kind of song you would find on a 80's horror flick soundtrack. Maybe it son 'Chopping Mall' or 'Night of The Comet'. I'll have to check my DVDs and back to you later. ;) 91. Throwaway - Mick JaggerNot Mick Jagger's best, but it did rock, and you can't say he didn't try to be melodic. In the end it just felt more apt for John Waite. I'm wondering why I put this below Greg Allman. I might have made a mistake, but it still wouldn't rise above #70. In fact I think I meant to slot this where I slotted "I'm No Angel". They are both out so no big loss anyway. 90. It's Not Over ('Til It's Over) - StarshipA lot better than I remembered it to be. Really liked the bassline. 80's rock had some great bridges to choruses. I can most of us treated it fairly. Not surprisingly I gave it the highest rank, but still fell short of my stacked top 40. 89. Who Owns This Place? - Don HenleyFor all the trouble I put our host through so I could listen to this song. Was it worth it? Not really. It was a nice rocker, and I did remember it from The "Color Of Money", but it exited me about as much this time as it did back then. 88. Hard Times for an Honest Man - John MellencampThis song was good. It's basically "Cherry Bomb and a half", so I only hope "Cherry Bomb" doesn't show up for a few more days. 87. Day-In Day-Out - David BowieThis was destined to drop on my hard rock list. I still like it, but a lot more among Modern Rock jams. 86. Give to Live - Sammy HagarThis was Hagar at his most 80's Chicago, but it really worked for him. Great vocals and you can see where early Van Hagar sound came from. Also I believe that was Mark Goodman introducing the MV. He was great. He was also one of the original VJ's on MTV who really gave Rock a big push into our 80's homes and charts. 85. Weapons of Love - The TruthThe Truth is I used to think this was INXS back Then. It certainly sounded way better than their actual RD entry. That's all I'm saying for now. 84. Back to Paradise - .38 SpecialThe song was good. It had more of a "Teacher Teacher" vibe than "Caught Up In You" one, but it was still pretty rocking. Also it might have helped if you guys had watched this music video instead. It certainly did the trick for me. 83. Dude (Looks Like a Lady) - AerosmithWhat the F U C K are you gfuys doing here. 8D Seriously!!!! This is a hair metal classic. I have no idea what merits this song a #100? Maybe some of you secretly know my bottom 3 songs? That might justify this ranking? The most hilarious aspect about this song is Steven Tyler said it was inspired by the long haired glam rockers who look like chicks. Well if that isn't calling the kettel black. because Steven Tyler didn't look like a MILF rocker himself. Anyway idk what J.K. rolling has to do with this song? Maybe it's GEO restricted where you live, but here is the real video. This song was also like #1 forever on MTV's top 10 requested videos of the day. 82. Miss You - Eric ClaptonEric Clapton did pretty good this time around. None of his song were bad. The correct one bows out first tho. 81. Cool the Engines - BostonOnce again what the hell are you guys doing? Out of all the boring crap still swimming in my bottom 10, how does a Boston rocker like this get a bottom 20? This is 100% 70's Album rock. What I missed out in '76 I made up with this proper comeback album. I really hope you kept listening after the 3rd minute , because that's were the high intensity takes off. Well this RD started out with a kick in the nuts, but here is something I learned today: PULSE does not dig on movie Soundtrack Rock music.

100. America (64): This sounded very 70s tune in terms of instrumental, harmonies and melody. For better or worse. The staleness made me rank it in my 80s at some point, but the nostalgic vibe ended up winning and made me rank it this high. 99. Anything Goes (91): I simply cannot stomach this guy's voice, and this one sounded like a bad retro song. 98. Winner Takes It All (71): When I saw this song was in the list I was hopeful I'd rank it in my top half. I hadn't heard it in decades, but I remembered it peaked in the top 15 of my personal chart. Unfortunately, this time it sounded a bit too cheesy and a tad overproduced. The chorus is catchy, and I can see I liked that type of melody much more back in '87. I don't think this was bottom 20 material. 97. I'm No Angel (81): See #99 96. Battleship Chains (84): Not horrible, just forgettable. 95. Into the Fire (78): Idem, and the correct Bryan tune to leave first. 94. The Secret of My Success (97): Several years ago I would've been more lenient to this one thanks to its production, but now I feel this is just overproduced, even more than #98. And the melody was all over the place to me. Clearly one of my worst discoveries. 93. Radio Waves (99): Another case of overproduction, and this time not only melody was weak, but vocals were bad. 92. Walk on Fire (98): Just forgettable to me. 91. Throwaway (34): I guess I'm the biggest fan of Mick around here This was a minor pop hit back home, and made my personal top 15. I still find it catchy, melodic, and with a nice classic beat. I can see my familiarity playing a big role here, but I also don't think this was THAT bad to be in the bottom 10 90. It's Not Over (80): Another song that I thought I was gonna rank higher, but somewhat felt a bit overproduced for this list. It was a personal top 25. Vocals were good, as expected, but melody is a bit under-developed. 89. Who Owns This Place (77): I initially had it as a bottom 10 candidate, but additional listens made me like the production a bit better, and the touch of harmonies in the post-chorus. 88. Hard Times for an Honest Man (85): The correct song leaves first. I found the melody repetitive, and the production a bit too simple especially compared with his other two songs. 87. Day In Day Out (63): I think this was the stronger of the two DB tracks, as it had more interesting production and less monotonous melody... 86. Give to Live (30): Second top 40 loss already? I presume this was tanked due to its lyrics? or it felt too cheesy? This was actually one of my favorite discoveries. I really liked the melody, the classic power ballad production and Sammy's vocals. 85. Weapons of Love (98): Very forgettable to me. 84. Back to Paradise (72): They've done better, but this had good rock energy. The chorus could've been much stronger, but at least t was catchy. 83. Dude (58): Classic rock instrumental and attitude. I admit I found it a bit cringey back in '87, but then I've grown to like it, especially in terms of its music. Melody is just ok to me. 82. Miss You (60): I had ranked this initially in my 80s, but the more I listened to it, the more I appreciated the strong instrumental. His guitars and Phil Collins' drums sounded great. The melody in the verses were better than the chorus, but overall a solid rock effort to me -and my favorite Clapton tune this year. 81. Cool the Engines (82): The right Boston song leaving first :) Instrumental is great, but melody was a bit weak to me. Hope their other songs don't appear soon, tho.

EXTRAS:
Hold on (Never Give Up, Never Give In) - John Kay & Steppenwolf This kinda had like an epic rock vibe to it. I didn't care for the vocalworks at all. Give the song to Night Ranger and I might have given it top 40?
Alone Again Or -The Damned Certainly nbot the best for The Dammed. placing it in my 70's is what I could work with best.
Just Like You - Martha Davis Pretty good actually, because it sounds like a Motels song. Sounds like 80's Bruce Springsteen in a way. Easy top 50 for my list. Probably up there with some Eddie Money?
Contagious - Y&T THis band was great. More on the heavier side of Metal kike Dokken. This particular song didn't get too much MTV airplay. I might have squeezed it into my top 50. The music video is a perfect expample of a movie you would find this song in. 'Teen Wolf'for example. Its also a shame we won't get to rank my favorite Y&T song ever "Summertime Girls". It got a peak of #16 on mainstream Rock and #55 on Pop. Not bad at all. It's their most "Jump" sounding song ever.
No Such Thing - Tommy Shaw Tommy was the harder Rock side of Styx. This song was great. A lot of driving force in the bass. A lot like Winger's "Can't Get Enough" or "Easy Come Easy Go". It's no surprise he teamed up with Blades to form Damn Yankees.
Fool in Love - Farrenheit This was easily a first time listen. The vocals were not bad, but it had that annoying Bruce Hornsby tapping in the background. That killed it right at the starting gate.
In Dreams - Peter Bardens Can't say I ever heard of Them nor Camel, nor this band for that matter. The song had some Steve Miller meets Eric Clapton guitar vibes. Not too bad, but not my thing. The vocals were kinda proggy which is even less my brew.
Make It Mean Something - Rob Jungklas never heard this. Sounds like a poor man's Bruce Springsteen. Apparently this musician is still making records.
Some People - Paul Young This song isn't bad, but I don't see any reason for Paul Young to chart on mainstream rock. He is more Sophistipop which I love, but I preferred this style on Modern Rock format or even better on Pop.
gonna pick out the most important extra I've seen earlier and that's "Girls Girls Girls"
How does that Strip club music masterpiece miss the '87 rock rankdown? The lyrics and especially music video alone are a sleaze Rockers wet dream. It's a shame we don't get great lyrics like this anymore. "Cockrock" had the right idea, but these were the real thing. Gotta love the motorcycle revving up in the intro as Mick Mars cranks up the pedal to the Metal. It's a perfect intro to a perfect rock song . Easy top 10 for my list. The whole song is based on 365 days of Mötley Crüe's life.I would have given anything for one night out on the town with these guys.

I went to listen to "America", just to see what would make the song so bad. They sure tried to make a song, alright. I found out as I was listening that the K in "KBC" stands for Kantner, as in Paul Kantner. It suddenly makes way more sense why the song is a mess.
Geez, it took until *#94* for someone to lose a #100, despite having 12 submissions. Wild. (I typed this before I saw the reveal of #83, where about half of the rankdown's #100s showed up.)

Coming from someone who's been hard on the Georgia Satellites in the past, I actually enjoyed "Battleship Chains" quite a bit. It also turns out that I don't dislike "Keep Your Hands to Yourself" anywhere near as much as I used to.
I'm pleasantly surprised that "Dude (Looks Like a Lady)" is already out. I'm not sure how that song was able to make it all the way into the top 40 in Lost Hits but I'm glad its run was cut considerably shorter here.

Ok, I have to watch my pace in revealing this set, since I need to be back out of the house about 3 hours from now. Luckily, not many of the reveals in the 80-61 range are too exciting. Only 3 significant standard deviations--2 are on the low end and the other is merely the 18 highest. And only 1 poster clears their bottom 10. This means less time spent building up certain posts.
