I love the powerful music video that this single dished up. I wished this could have sneaked into the top 10 here. This was our winner for Part 4. Recently, he has released a couple of new songs. His current single is "Heavy is the Crown" and I hope it can be a rebound for the band!

There was a big point gap between this and "Breakaway." This was very close to making our top 5 but was just a tad short. This song is definitely a fan favorite. After "Before He Cheats", she needed to pick a final single that wouldn't get swept under the rug. This was chosen wisely and continued the success of her debut album!

ummm, not really. I happen to like a lot of the songs on this list and have never particularly cared for the duet version of "Because of You". I LOVE the original though. I actually ranked this higher than I should have because it is Reba lol. I love Reba & Kelly together, just wish we had a duet with them that wasn't this song (or "Softly & Tenderly" or "Silent Night")

All jokes aside, I am THRILLED that Reba made it as high as she did!!!! She literally lasted all the way until she was facing only the epic firewall of the Breakaway and Some Hearts eras, which we all should have expected to dominate the top 7 or so from the moment we saw the list. To see her not only last long enough to face off against them, but also come within just a couple points of infiltrating them, is about the best case scenario for the performance of this song!

I just love what Reba did with this song so much. The orchestra is perfect, she and Kelly sound amazing together, and frankly Reba herself sounds WAY better singing this type of huge slick pop ballad than you would expect her to on paper with her blatant Oklahoma Twang and her signature unique melismatic stylings. I know some have complained that the lyrics don't make sense as a female duet, but I think the music video makes it work. Reba basically blames her resistance to love on the way she feels watching her friend in an abusive relationship (as is so perfectly evident in the gif I posted above). While Kelly's original is all about actually being in the relationship, Reba's acknowledges the way that a relationship like that can affect the people around them. It's not perfect, but it is a fascinating twist on the song, for sure.

But tbh, I could care less what the lyrics are, because it's such an epic vocal that I am always mesmerized when I listen to it. Reba even sings the song in the same key as Kelly For the longest time I was really disappointed that she didn't do the gregarious key change in the third chorus, but as time has gone by I have come to appreciate the simplicity that her take gives to the end of this song. It works despite being different, and gives the song a bit more of a wistful feeling that makes sense with the perspective of Reba watching her friend be miserable. While Kelly's key-changed ending has a really angsty and grief-stricken feeling to it like you would expect for somebody actually experiencing the heartbreak of an abusive relationship.

Thank Jesus it wasn’t JTTW. A nice message and all that, but I just have never liked that song, it just pours it on way too thick. Tbh, I wasn't Carrie's biggest fan in her early years although I respected her vocal talent and she had one-off songs I loved. I wouldn't really have called myself a "fan" until Storyteller and Cry Pretty. Although I loved Carnival Ride back when, I always thought it was just a fluke since I didn't feel anywhere near as strongly about SH, PA, or BA.
