Today's extra is a song from their album To The Max. Though never officially released as a single, it's widely considered their signature song.

Just submitted. Pretty strong year. Not a fan of my bottom 2.

Today's extra was one of his record-setting 7 Top 10 pop hits from his Thriller album. Unfortunately it didn't fare as well on the soul chart, climbing no higher than #46. Nevertheless, it still gets plenty of play at Urban AC radio. Features backup vocals by his sisters Janet and LaToya.

Today's extra was one of 13 consecutive hits he scored on the pop and soul charts between 1981 and 1987. This song peaked at #2 soul and #4 on the Hot 100.

Today's extra was the first charted single by this reggae group from Britain. It topped the charts in Australia, Britain, Belgium, Canada, Ireland, The Netherlands, New Zealand, and Switzerland, and peaked at #2 in Austria, France and Germany. In the US, it topped out at #10 on the Hot 100 and #8 on the soul chart.
Pass The Dutchie - Musical Youth
"Pass The Dutchie" was a modified version of "Pass The Kouchie", with kouchie being slang for marijuana. Dutchie is another word for cooking pot.

Oh wow! New Edition, My favorite Donna Summer song, and other greats like Chaka and Lionel....this is gonna be so much fun, I mean what can go wrong... *sees #LOLBILLIEJEANWINS* ......Damnit Hey, "Billie Jean" has arguably the most iconic intro to a pop song ever. The opening drum and bass always puts me in a groove.

Pass The Dutchie is such a weird song. Used to not like it but it grew on me. Kind of unique.

How about some blue-eyed funk from 1983? Patrick Simmons was one of the two founding members of The Doobie Brothers in 1970, and he released a solo album in 1983 that produced one hit, with some backing vocal assistance from fellow Doobie Brother Michael McDonald. Enjoy:
"So Wrong" - Patrick Simmons
R&B SINGLES: #77 April 23, 1983 2 weeks
BILLBOARD HOT 100: #30 May 7, 1983 1 week
DANCE: #8 May 14, 1983 3 weeks
The R&B stations had no idea what they were missing out on.

Today's extra is a double feature. Up first, the second of their 6 Top 10 hits on the soul chart, peaking at #5. It also climbed to #17 on the Hot 100.
All This Love - DeBarge
Next, a song from their In a Special Way album with Bunny singing lead. It's been covered by Mary J. Blige and was notably sampled in Blackstreet's "Don't Leave Me" and 2Pac's "I Ain't Mad At Cha".
A Dream - DeBarge

Fascinating, would never have guessed this would have done so poorly on the soul chart. Was this the only anomaly of his songs doing well on the Top 100, but poorly on the soul charts? I did notice that he continued to do well on the UK charts even after he started not being a consistent hitmaker in America. PYT is one of my favorite MJ songs, along w/ the Off the Wall hits.

"She's Out Of My Life" from Off The Wall didn't do that well on the soul chart either, only climbing to #43.
Among the Thriller singles, "Human Nature" was the only other one to miss Top 10 soul, getting no higher than #27.
"Will You Be There" was another single that did poorly, stopping at #53.

Today's extra is the breakthrough single by a former member of the group Chapter 8. It peaked at #5 on the soul chart and would later be covered by Lalah Hathaway.

Today's extra was the first single from her debut album Feel My Soul. Produced by Maurice White, who also co-wrote it with David Foster and Allee Willis, it peaked at #2 on the soul chart.

On the surface, the chart stats for today's extra may not be all that impressive- #34 soul, #46 Hot 100- but this dance charttopper is more well-known than they suggest. Co-written by Paul Shaffer.
It's Raining Men - The Weather Girls
Martha Wash remade the song with RuPaul in 1998.
