Maybe the Fall is going to give it a push?

Maybe the Fall is going to give it a push? Wouldn't be surprised. It definitely seems more suited to being a fall/winter hit

For what it's worth, this played on the speakers at a pumpkin and apple picking farm yesterday in New Jersey and felt very appropriate for the setting! So maybe fall comes bearing better things for Cardigan?

This has a score of 90.71 on Hitpredictor and is number 4 on RatetheMusic. There is no way this should debut worse than Before You Go on callouts (if only Mediabase sampled the entire top 40 like they used to). Thus this is now an excellent replacement for that song in one of the ballad slots on some station’s playlists.
Like I said last month, this is a November top 10. I’m just pleasantly surprised to see it stick around long enough to maybe get to the part of the year it needed to make it to.

Good update. I hope it's not inflated due to the IHeart festival being last weekend and it eating up many songs spins..

Week 7 in the top 20 without hitting the top 15. How many weeks did 'Lover' linger?

Week 7 in the top 20 without hitting the top 15. How many weeks did 'Lover' linger? Oh we aren't anywhere near that level of an exhaustive run yet. lol "Lover" spent 3 months (12 weeks) lingering between 19 and 16 before peaking at #14 for two non-consecutive weeks. gghunt.utasites.cloud/charts/Songruns/7.6.19/tswift_Lover.htm

The top 10 in November thing made me laugh because I remembered the people that kept saying that all "Lover" needed was to last until December or something... and then come December it finally started going in one direction and it wasn't the right one.

It's because of that one 'christmas lights up till january' song. People expected Lover (S) to thrive next to a bunch of holiday classics for some reason. cardigan on the other hand screams good callouts, has great critical acclaim, and could thrive for the rest of Fall and early Winter. I think Taylor's team should wait and see if cardigan can go anywhere and try and push Exile for Winter with a Shallow type run where it hits #1 hopefully after a grand Grammy performance.

I just feel like anyone who is still looking or even hoping for a Shallow type run for Exile are setting themselves up for disappointment.

I just feel like anyone who is still looking or even hoping for a Shallow type run for Exile are setting themselves up for disappointment. I revisited the track yesterday and kinda understood why people keep clamoring for it to be a single but I still feel like expectations are way too high. Specially for an album that has sold so well, post-release singles have a huge uphill battle. And I still feel like there are better choices for CHR ("the 1" or my favorite on the album, "august").

I just feel like anyone who is still looking or even hoping for a Shallow type run for Exile are setting themselves up for disappointment. I mean, it's still #130 on Spotify US, I could easily see it return to top 50 for a long period if she released a video for it and if radio was on board.

People really cling to the idea that one-off lyrics that correlate to the calendar will somehow make a song a hit during that time of year..

See also: She can't release "Cruel Summer" because it's not summer yet! (Imagine if that kind of logic is why we ended up with "The Man" as the last single instead).

I have came to the conclusion that Lover should've been released this year. Cruel Summer as the lead for the whole COVID Summer quarantine and The Man would've fit perfectly with the 2020 U.S. elections. oh well

"The Man" had no business being a single imo. I know she ended up getting a token VMA for it, but even the video had nothing new to say about her recent struggles with Scooter.
And chartwise it's arguably her worst performing single ever? Don't let the first week peak deceive you.

The Man was maybe her first full fledged flop. It barely charted on the Hot 100 (as a single). I guess OOTW and New Romantics did kinda poorly too, but those at least went top 50 on the Hot 100 and were 6th and 7th singles.

Exile did quite well in NW Europe, the combined Spotify chart weeks for those countries (UK, Ireland, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland) was 58 weeks for exile vs 52 weeks for cardigan thanks to exile outperforming cardigan in Belgium, Sweden and Norway. The 1 did 27 weeks combined in these eleven countries.
I don't think any of the singles are going to be a huge smash at this point, but it would still be nice to see her promo some of the more popular songs from the album. She still hasn't performed any of the four most popular songs on the album (cardigan, exile, the 1 and august).

I guess OOTW and New Romantics did kinda poorly too, but those at least went top 50 on the Hot 100 and were 6th and 7th singles. I'm not sure about OOTW's run (I think it may have returned to Top 40 after music video) but its peak is its debut week when it was released as a promo single before 1989, I'm pretty sure. As for New Romantics, it was a deluxe track that was only made available on streaming and iTunes when it became a single, which did help it a lot. So all things considered, The Man isn't too far off from her other "flop" late-in-the-album-cycle singles. Also agree that The Man > Cruel Summer but only slightly. in the latest rankdown, I put them at Nos. 8 and 9 on the album, respectively.
