I want this to smash so bad but unless this somehow held up exceptionally well in sales and streaming while also getting great callouts, I doubt this will do much other than barely scrape the top 10 in Pop.
The album as a whole have no obvious single choices for pop either. maybe august and mirrorball?

The video is gorgeous.
I like the song more than all the singles from the last album except "Lover". I don't see it being a big hit beyond the initial hype.. it's very slow and low key.

she is not songwriter type and her previous career was all pop, so as she is in a definite decline, do not hope for a second wing in your career path girl, you are not that special...

After listening to the album, I can understand why they went with this.
I personally like it. It’s indie but it’s ethereal and slightly pop. The video was beautiful. I’m not sure if it’s something the public will take to, especially since folk music isn’t really popular...but I sure hope so. It’s a very refreshing change from her last three eras and it showcases her songwriting skills. I’m going to hope for a Top 10 finish.

Rule of Pulse - Ignore the blue eye at all costs. It's comical though. :kii: I can't see this being a big smash but it's a really beautiful song and video. She's very clearly not going for radio this time around and rightfully so because who cares about radio anyway?

Maybe that’s the new trend. To be anti-radio?

Maybe that’s the new trend. To be anti-radio? I’ll be honest, I like when artists do that. I think it results in more interesting music. It isn’t always good but when you’re not trying to fit within the confines of what radio thinks it wants, you have a bit more flexibility. I think music in the past few years has been much more interesting than it has been in a long time.

This is a nice experiment for Taylor and critics will eat it up but... radio ain't gonna do much with this.
Not that it matters much, but y'all need to brace yourself for a run that could be even worse than The Man's.

I really like this. Especially like the Piano. I hope it does something. Perhaps top 10 on HAC at least.

Well, she has officially crossed the line that every artist crosses eventually because music can't be catchy or fun when you pass a certain age, lol. I always liked fun and even poppier Taylor better, but I'm glad we got a few good cds and at least the lyrics to this are more interesting than you usual HOT Ac-fare or stuff like Maroon 5 makes now. I bet fans are EATING IT UP though because this is more in line with the types of songs they seem to go crazy for on her cds.

This to me is like the “Joanne” phase of Gaga’s career, and like Gaga, Taylor might have peaked on pop but certainly isn’t dead on pop.

Maybe that’s the new trend. To be anti-radio? Taylor Swift is certainly not chasing hits with this album. Maroon 5 is like pro-radio lol.

This was much needed for the next phase of her career. You can’t be a pop star on top forever.

But she is known for her extremely personal songwriting so unless you’re trying to shade her abilities or you are just that dense and ignorant, you’re really trying it.

Just in time for the Grammy submission cut off. Very clever. Very nice project though, kind of a breath of fresh air coming from her.

Now that I've done repeat listens, I think this actually seems like the best choice for the single. Not expecting this (or this album lol) to do much from a radio perspective, but it'll be interesting to see how far it can go.

I think exile can do some damage on radio, during awards season and the Fall/Winter seasons. I also see the album having some legs during those holiday months since it fits the seasons so well! I can see exile having a shot at ROTY at the Grammys.

Can we talk about the fact that she sings about wearing black—and not red—lipstick? Growth. I’ve been wanting her to drop that reference for a decade.
