man i hope so too... i wouldn't say she popularzied country/pop music but it was doing well when she was in that phase.... she definitely popularized synth-pop, example? blank space. the entire album 1989. then she did it again with reputation, popularizing trap beats with pop music. indie-pop music is just starting to take off really, and i think she is a catalyst for this.

I know this is a tiny detail, but I really enjoy when albums have aesthetic stylized track names. Like when songs are in all undercase (folklore, billie's album, thank u, next) or in all uppercase (ASTROWORLD). idk if that's just me tho.

these styles really do add something to the album's appeal though. (also, you get to argue with critics who capitalizes the 'F' in folklore, hahaha)

Do I remember reading that pop songs and chart topping/top ten singles are getting faster as of late? Because all of folklore's songs being midtempo and still managing to become wildly successful might stop this acceleration in its tracks if we're talking about Taylor's impact on the music industry.

/midtempo pop songs that are still chart toppers aren't a new phenomenon or at least they didn't start this year. I think most point to 2016 to the start of the downbeat pop songs

When I hear that pop songs are getting faster I'm confused because it seems slower songs and the lo-fi aesthetic is coming up again.

Because listening to pop radio in the winter of 2019 was depressing as fuck, (everything you wanted, someone you loved, lose you to love me, )

Um ok, all of this literally makes zero sense. First of all, Gaga did come out with what would be considered "good music," as Chromatica has a 79 on Metacritic (not as stellar as folklore's 94, but still very respectable), and it had the biggest opening week for a woman and fifth biggest overall of the year up to its release, with 274,000 units, a very respectable number. Stupid Love underperformed a bit, but 2nd single Rain on Me debuted at #1, and while neither that or the album have stayed dominant near the top of the charts, they didn't exactly freefall either like other recent songs and albums. Taylor will have a huge first week that's for sure, but we're only in day 2 of release so still way too early to say definitively how it'll do long term.

I know you probably didn't intentionally shade Katy, though you could argue she did the exact same things several years earlier with the Teenage Dream album or even One of the Boys for synth-pop (or more aptly "dance pop" or "pure pop"), and Dark Horse with trap beats. Though either way, they would just be re-popularizing elements of pre-existing genres, so neither artist would be very innovative or revolutionary.
