Umm where is that terrible Aerosmith track Correction terrible RUN DMC track. Aerosmith just did a cameo, and quite possibly the only saving grace of the song.

100. Steel Strings - Peter CasePlimsouls? This is the farthest from the Plimsouls one can get. Not my #100, but I'm not complaining. This is one of those songs that comes with a Doc Indie Party Rock please tank me tagg. tell me I'm wrong? 99. I Been Down So Long (Live) - StingThis let me down hard. I didn't even know of its existence? The only reason it barely makes is out of my bottom 20 is Sting's vocals. 98. Sing Our Own Song - UB40 If I did anything with this song it was because of Ali Campbell's vocals which I usually enjoy. This song has to really suck for me for me to put a UB40 song out of my top 50 on a Modern Rock Rank down. I usually have a little bit of fun with this band, but that little beat was ridiculous. Change this song's title to "Sing Our own Song (By Ourselves)" because no one wants to sing along to this one. 97. Keep on Moving - Green on RedThere are so many first, and hopefully last time listens for me here. idk why but this sounded like Alice Cooper doing Folk. Let's hope that never happens. 96. C'mon Every Beatbox - Big Audio DynamiteLooks like a chose the correct PULSE please tank me song for this rank down. I don't even know where to begin? There is some noize , a vocally challened Mick Jones, and then some melody of a song that is so misused here that I can't even recall its name. I hear a Little of "Summertime Blues", but at the same time I don't wanna disrespect that classic. Who else thinks we should have been payed $$$$ to sit through this one? 95. Riverside - The Beat Farmers I kinda liked this one. A bit more upbeat than the other song and gets a bit rowdy in the guitars. I can go for that. 94. Medicine Show - Big Audio DynamiteA tad more melodic and not as noizy, but lyrically silly, and I just do not dig on Mick's vocals. Is it me or does anyone else think the band must have been heavily medicated on something to think these songs were good? 93. Wild Blue Yonder - The Screaming Blue MessiahsToo many of these songs sounded like this. What's this? Heartland Alternative Rock. I do not dig this sound. 92. The Human Jungle - The Jazz ButcherSo it sounds like '86 Modern Rock was trying everything to distance itself from The New Wave/ Synthpop sound of the 80's. Hmmmmm. A perfect way to get me to be your enemy. 91. The Future's So Bright I Gotta Wear Shades - Timbuk 3 If this had been a first time listen I would have thought it was silly as F U C K, but nostalgia is a strong emotion when it comes to music. I did the same thing with "Tuff Enuff" which I'm sure we will run into very soon. 90. Looking for Lewis and Clark - The Long RydersThis was a bit heavier than most of the songs on this list. Felt like a harder version of a Paul Revere and The Raiders song, and I really enjoyed the harmonics. 89. Spirit in the Sky - Doctor & The MedicsYou might think I'm pretty bold to gave this one top 10, but I know and love this song. You had to be there. There was this music magazine I would follow weekly with a local top 30 Pop hits chart. i would walk out to the new stands and get it the day it came out. There were three songs I would follow up the chart. Kim Wilde "School Girl" Mike Mareen "Love Spy and this one. I was in Europe at the time, and this was huge in France. It was all over the airweaves. I loved the guitar riffs, and especially the guitar buildup in the intro. I didn't even know there was an original. Didn't care either, because this one rocked my preteen world. Seriously I have the European version of the song's 45' single. How's that for nostalgia 88. Puzzlin' Evidence - Talking HeadsThis band can be mighty hokey at times. This takes the cake in silliness, but also slightly ,kinda B-52's fun. 87. Tuff Enuff - The Fabulous ThunderbirdsLOL! I knew this song would not go far. Today it does sound kinda silly to me, but once again nostalgia is a powerful mother F U C K er when it comes to ranking these old songs. 86. Heartache - Gene Loves JezebelThis didn't even make my top 20. It wasn't that memorable at all, but it did have that Glammy vibe I prefer in these Rds. Question? why did the college nerds decide to to make this one a hit, and not the awesom "Desire....."?

got a bit of extra time so I'm gonna take on a few of the songs I actually remember from 1986.
Erasure - Heavenly I didn't recall this one. I very nice rediscovery to start things out. Sounded like one big Synthpop chorus preview. Love the melody in the chorus. The dogs in the MV and the song's title remind me of Chevy Chase ,and Benji on "Oh Heavenly Dog". Was this one the movie's soundtrack?
Erasure - Oh L'Amour The first song That really got me to love this band. the marriage of Synthpop and Hi-NRG sounded like bliss to me back then. It was the perfect contrast to my love of the 80's Glam Metal bands. Another one that was on that chart I was talking about. made the top 10 too. For some reason the 45' of this song has a Thomas the Tank like image on the cover art.
Erasure - Who Needs Love Like That The fist song I ever heard from this band. Love that synth riff. I would have put all these Erasure songs in my top 40.
Fine Young Cannibals - Ever Fallen in Love First time listen. I think I like this more than "She Drives Me Crazy". I wonder if the silliness of these videos was the song's Ultimate downfall. Paperbag men dancers. WTF?
Fine Young Cannibals - Suspicious Minds I do remember this one. Such a great melody for song. Love the original ,and Bobby "O"'s version. This is the closest to the Elvis Presley original I've heard. Roland's unique vocal tones really give it life.
General Public - Come Again What a witty music video intro to a great song. I always loved the uptempo vibe of this band's songs. The brass in the background really added that "feel good" layer to 80's music.
General Public - Faults and All I have this cassette. Another uptempo song. This one carries it through with a caribbean vibe. Where is the Eddie Grant cameo when you want it?
General Public - In Conversation This wasn't a favorite of mine. I would fast forward this one to the next track. It's not a bad song, and it still features Dave on vocals. It just kinda brings down the mood since most of the record was uptempo.
Genesis - Invisible Touch Genesis on Modern Rock is certainly a bit off center, but I still knew, charted ,and loved this song. You can't deny that this one of there most popular songs ever.
Genesis - Land of Confusion Another Genesis classic and who doesn't know this iconic music video. Great song. definitely hand picked for mainstream chart, but why does this end up lower than "Invisible Touch?
Howard Jones- No One Is to Blame I'm not the biggest fan of mellow songs, but Synthpop acts knew how to make them work. A simple percussion with some pianos and a cello make for a wonderful pop ballad. This one has beautiful lyrics that give Howard Jones vocal shine. Ironically these lyrics might have fit Alanis' song better too.
Howard Jones - You Know I Love You...Don't You? Another one i charted. Just listen to that bass coupled with these synth riffs. I love when synths sound like brass, and the bass line almost sounds like Synth rock, but also a lot like Go West "We Close Our Eyes". The MV was using the technology of a-ha's "Take On Me".
INXS - Do Wot You Do Ah from Pretty In Pink. Such an amazing soundtrack. I wish this one had gotten more airplay, because that chorus begs for repeat play. Sounds a tad like J. Geils Band.
INXS - Kiss the Dirt (Falling Down the Mountain) Another great one. These Extras really need to be ranked because the actual top 100 ,and these songs are like two different worlds. I love how this song gets heavier in the middle.
INXS - Listen Like Thieves hard to believe we didn't get to rank this either. I love this one. Sounds a bit like Jaguares. Especially in the verses.
INXS - What You Need One of my favorite INXS songs. gave this one a #2 peak. Sounds like The 1975 could go down this route if they really go heavy on the brass. The brass in this song takes the spotlight. The guitar in the break is mean , but the saxophone gives the song its ultimate peak. Take it home Kirk!
Level 42 - Hot Water So we already ran into my favorite song from the band "Lessons In Love". This one sounds a lot like this that one in the bassline. This is funky. Love the guitar works and the jazz elements. Also this song was released in 1984. Why give it a late U.S. release when the Modern Rock sound was changing into something else?
Level 42 - Something About You Simply amazing. One of the biggest Sophistipop songs of the 80's. very aesthetic. Feels like floating on clouds
These extras are certainly the soundtrack of my 1986 year. I hope we get to rank the actual synthpop and New Wave hits for 1985.

This group of extras features the remaining songs that charted on Mainstream Rock. ("Behind the Wall of Sleep" and "Split Decision" from the previous set also charted - we're ranking the latter). Out of this group, "Addicted to Love", "The Knife Feels Like Justice", "Emotion in Motion", and "Give Blood" will all be ranked on the 1986 Mainstream Rock list. We also ranked "Keep Your Hands to Yourself" on 1987's list. YE Position | Artist | Song | Video | #101 | Paul Simon | Graceland | | #102 | Van Morrison | Ivory Tower | | #103 | Pete Townshend | Give Blood | | #123 | Bob Dylan | Got My Mind Made Up | | #126 | Ric Ocasek | Emotion in Motion | | #129 | Jason & The Scorchers | Golden Ball and Chain | | #135 | Brian Setzer | The Knife Feels Like Justice | | #143 | The Georgia Satellites | Keep Your Hands to Yourself | | #154 | Paul Simon | The Boy in the Bubble | | #173 | Lone Justice | Shelter | | #174 | The Del Fuegos | I Still Want You | | #191 | Bonnie Raitt | No Way to Treat a Lady | | #194 | Robert Palmer | Addicted to Love | |

Man, "Graceland" is a miss. Even on a list as good as this one, I would have ranked that song high.

Sing Our Own Song UB40

99, 99, 99, and 100 for their other late 80's/early 90's hits?!? So does the Pulse Music Board dislike UB40 more than any other 80's artist?

Kind of crazy that we have a song with no bottom tens this early on.
I liked this, but it's not a song I feel like I'm going to come back to much.

I'll admit, I kind of chuckled at his vocal delivery here at times. The song was fine otherwise.
The other Cole song here was better, anyway.

Not a bad song, but Lou is capable of so much more than this.
I was about to say that this was "the lamest thing I've heard from him" until I remembered Lulu.
