I put an * next to everybody who did not participate in the first one. As you can see, out of our 21 participants, 13 people did not get to participate in the first one!! That means 62% of our participants are ranking Martina's hits for the first time I am so impressed with this turnout, and happy that so many people got to join who had missed out the first time. If it had only been like 5 new people, that would have been majorly disappointing, so thank you all for joining! It is especially nice to see some new names in here who do not participate in country rankdowns often or proclaim themselves to be huge Martina fans everywhere they go :) This is a very cool mix of people, and I look forward to seeing everyone's thoughts as we dive in here!

2. What else will be in the top 5? “A Broken Wing” and “Independence Day” in the top two followed by “Wild Angels”, “Concrete Angel”, and “My Baby Loves Me”

3. What will be #50? “Marry Me” is the only correct choice

4. What else will be in the bottom 5? It’s usually a safe bet that any Christmas song will land down near the bottom, but I think both “Silver Bells” and “O Holy Night” are pretty well regarded amongst her fanbase so they just as might escape such fate. If the two non-holiday songs aren’t in there I think along with “Marry Me” other possible contenders include “Valentine”, “That’s Me”, “Where I Used to Have a Heart”, "Still Holding On", “Trip Around the Sun”, and “Heart Trouble”.

5. Any predictions for which song you expect to have the biggest difference in placement between the first Martina rankdown and now? That’s a tough one to predict, but I’m hoping it’ll be “Safe in the Arms of Love”!

6. Which album will be the first to have multiple losses? It’ll be either her sophomore album The Way That I Am (“Where I Used to Have a Heart” and “Heart Trouble”) or her debut album The Time Has Come (title track and “That’s Me”)

12. Any other thoughts/predictions? As I wasn't doing rankdowns yet when her first artist one was done some three years ago, I'm glad that we are revisiting her work and it'll be interesting to see what the differences will be between the two!

7. Which album will be the first to be entirely eliminated? The Time Has Come How far into the rankdown will it last? Probably as high up as Top 30...that seems generous based on how obscure these three songs are in comparison to the career that followed.

It's sad that such an incredible voice was tarnished by laryngitis in 2011 because she really did have the country voice of her generation, and I'm happy that she's regained a lot of it (albeit likely never all of it ) in the years since. Hoping her fifteenth album is coming soon; it's been far too long since Reckless! I'm glad Martina had a second singles rankdown, because I wasn't around for the first time. It'll be interesting to see how much my taste impacted your faves how my tastes compare with everyone, particularly our host...the resident Martina Expert himself!

I personally dislike my 49 and 50 more, but good riddance! The earlier Christmas songs were much better, but I don't expect those to stay around much longer either.

As much as I love Martina, it is painfully apparent that her voice has been declining in recent years...and her It's The Holiday Season album came out pretty much at the peak of it. While the song itself is actually pretty catchy, and has the benefit of not having been over-covered a la "Silent Night", "The Christmas Song", etc., it sounds like vocal amateur hour alongside literally everything else in this playlist.

Nobody seems to know for sure what is happening with Martina's voice, but I did hear her hint once that she had suffered a bout of laryngitis sometime between the Eleven and Everlasting eras, but pushed herself to tour through it anyway. I believe she said something along the lines of how she "picked up some bad habits that she is now having to work hard to correct".

Whatever the truth is, please do not look up any live videos of her between about 2016 and 2018 😂

However, I will say, when I saw her live last summer, she was sooooo amazing!!! She very clearly had been working through whatever "bad habits" she had picked up in her laryngitis battle. I suspect it had to do with contorting in certain ways to hit certain notes, because in this performance she was nothing but open body postures and confident stances. She very clearly sounded WAY better. It seems that increase in quality has continued, because she turned in a pretty bitchin' vocal on "Girls Like Me" this year!! But, more to come on that one later.

tim seems to be the only one in the entire world who actually prefers Martina's new Christmas album to her first one.... It resulted in him being the highest ranker for IBTLALLC. But even then, nobody even comes close to losing a top half rank.

I put IBTLALLC at #45 but I knew one of these Christmas songs was going first, and it doesn't surprise me that it was this. She still sounds great on the album (Martina McBride at her most vocally disgraced is still better than what many people WISH they could sound like and that's the cold hard truth!!!  ) but for her standard it is painfully evident how mediocre she sounds on this album; and it's my least favorite record of hers because of it. It's clear she's worked hard and "Girls Like Me" is evidence of that, but yeah...more about that one later. 2016-18 Martina is...we don't talk too much about her.

Are you the only one out of tim and now myself who hasn't done those yet?   edit: oh never mind! I stand corrected 


(btw I credit Tim with the idea for doing album showcases in the Carrie RD and I will be doing so going forward in 2021 with the Darius Rucker/Luke Bryan RDs because I just like the idea of showcasing the album tracks as well, particularly in instances where the singles were...not particularly the greatest lol)
