This sounds like something plucked right out of mid-2000s country radio. As a result, it feels a little lowkey and dated for country radio in 2020, so I'd be surprised if this did anything. Honestly, it even sounds like something that would've been only a minor top 30 or 40 hit at best back then, too. Just not hearing any hit potential in this. As for the song itself, it's totally middle of the road. Not bad, but also not memorable in any way.

So the good news is I love the topic of the song, very nice to see a male artist lead with something with substance. And something you don’t always hear.
I also overall like the production, though I wish Elvie’s vocal was more in front of the mix. It gets drowned out a bit in places.
The bad is there’s a real lack of melody here, I don’t think this is very radio friendly at all. And Elvie sounds fine, but he doesn’t have an interesting Or strong voice from what I’m hearing here.
Still I wouldn’t mind seeing this become a hit, I just don’t think it’ll happen as indulge said.

I fully expected to not like this song, which is my own fault/annoyance with the signing/pushing/success of random male artists, but WOW I love this song. I haven't heard a country song address having/the hardships of raising stepchildren. This is fantastic!

This is a really good song. The only song I can think of that is about this topic is “He Didn’t Have To Be” and even that is from the son’s perspective. Hopefully it does well!

His voice reminds me of watered-down Drake White or Kip Moore. Song is fine. Could possibly be a surprise hit when enough people relate with this. Need better melody though.

A little surprised to see the lukewarm response to this, as I actually really like this. I also think he has a pretty strong voice and I quite like his tone and delivery. I also don't think the melody is really lacking at all either. No clue if it will do well or not, but I wouldn't be opposed to seeing it do well.

Not a very good song. I started to hear it on Youtube, and I just exited without hearing the rest of the song. A lot of songs coming out of Nashville have way too much autotune which do drown out the words at times. If they jusy get rid of autotune and allow it to be natural sounding? Then we can have better music.

Just heard this one and I really like it. Nice to see a new artist debut with a song that’s more than just fluff. There’s some real substance here. Hopefully this can be a breakout hit for him.

Just like Larry Fleet’s song I could see this being a #1 as well.

This seems to be selling extremely well for its airplay. This could be a sizable hit when all is said and done.

Just now coming around to this one and I love it to pieces. I cried, for personal reasons, but I'll just say it touched a special place in my heart. It's really nice to have a country song, from a male artist at that, address the topic of stepchildren. Lovely, lovely song and I'm happy to see that it debuted on the charts.

I really, really like this too. I am hoping it breaks through the clutter of sound samey male songs and makes a big impact in 2021.
Hearing it’s a true story about his stepson makes it more special.

Entered the Mediabase Top 40 tonight at #40 with a bullet of 39.
I also want to say great music video for the song, and look for this to be huge in 2021 as it is selling like hotcakes (#96 all genre). Definitely would expect the single to take off big in early 2021

Country tiktok finally pushes a better song to mainstream exposure. Hope this artist has something more to offer and not be as disappointing as Travis Denning.

I know it's already been said but I'm seeing this all over Tik Tok. I also saw a version called "My Girl" -- same premise, just for a daughter rather than son.

This song is so good! He looks like a scholarly version of Brantley Gilbert in the music video. Lol

This is easily my favorite song from a newer male artist out right now. I really hope this can keep climbing and turn into the #1 hit it deserves. With that said, I'm not loving anything else from his newly released EP. I feel like some of the songs can grow on me if I gave it more of a chance though. His sound reminds me a little of Eric Church.

I didn’t see it in this thread but has there been mention of Elvie being a past contestant on American Idol on any other thread? He was on one of the seasons with Keith, J-Lo & Harry.

According to a new ad in Aircheck, Elvie's label is requesting to radio to "power up" beginning Oct. 10th!
