“Should’ve Known Better” is a fantastically written country song and far superior to this single. That said, I still just don’t like her voice much.

(And feel free to say you don’t know. I can’t stand Kacey’s sound and I can’t put my finger on exactly why that is.)

I cannot speak to austin's feelings about Carly's voice but I've always felt there was something off about her vocals, like she sounds great imo but there is something I struggle with explaining that I'm not crazy about and it comes out in some songs more than others. I think "Hide The Wine" and "Next Girl" are two of the worst examples of the issue I'm speaking of, and I do love both of those. I do think she sounds fantastic on "Should've Known Better" and I'm excited for the rest of her new EP!

(And feel free to say you don’t know. I can’t stand Kacey’s sound and I can’t put my finger on exactly why that is.) It’s interesting. I believe “Every Little Thing” is an absolute perfect marriage to her vocal style, almost in the way “Strawberry Wine” was MADE for Deana Carter’s delivery. When it came out I thought Carly was going to be my new favorite female artist and I would stan her. Then, I didn’t like her debut album at all, and the second one I found the song quality to be much higher, but aside from “It Won’t Always Be Like This” which was another perfect marriage for her voice, I found myself cringing when she sang. What is hard to explain about this is what I don’t like about her voice the most is when she goes into that high pitched wailing she does in every song, but both the ones I mentioned above are two of the worst offenders yet I feel it works on those songs. However, I also think she has an issue with enunciation where a lot of the words blend together and are hard to make out. Totally understand I am in the minority and I know it’s taboo to not support a female artist these days, I just can’t really get too into her, though I respect her songwriting chops and loved her genuine reaction to winning her first major award last year.

I love Should've Known Better! I think this was one of the songs under consideration for the lead single of this album, I vaguely remember somthing about a survey. Anyone remembers what was the other one?

Carly Pearce definitely doesn't have the best voice among the new girls imo. She has this weird quality to how she sings that almost sounds like she has peanut butter stuck in her throat because there's like a hoarse dryness to her delivery that becomes more noticeable on certain songs, with "Call Me" being the most obvious example on her last album (making it my least favorite). I thought her debut was decent, but her sophomore album was a much stronger set of songs and her vocals have gradually improved, with "It Won't Always Be Like This" being the best performance she's done on record. The way she sounded on that one was PERFECT. She's definitely someone who has to play to their strengths more carefully because she has a more niche sounding voice than someone like Maren Morris or Lauren Alaina.

Well this isn't even being branded as an album, but rather an EP. There will definitely be a full-length album following 29 later this year, so it's not *quite* the same thing as what we're seeing with Luke Bryan right now, i.e.

Seven songs is just kind of in that EP/Album gray area. I've probably just got reissue fatigue..haha

It’s weird. This collection is such a grey area. Is it an ep? Is it an album? Many things are calling it an ep; but many are calling it an album (iTunes has it listed as an album not an ep.) I guess I’m here for whatever gives us as many songs possible in the long run lol. I’m totally here for all the songs she’s been showcasing lately.

Another 'leak'....and austin , I think you have your wish...this is just a country sex jam haha. Production is interesting, very swanky, but country sounding. I've been obsessed with that snippet the last two days, the pre-chorus is so catchy. The song has to make the album!

It'll only be available for...wait for it....29 hours, so if you wanna see this, mark your calendars and set reminders! 7:01pm EST/6:01 CST/5:01 MT/4:01 PST

Based on how the songs are performing individually on the iTunes country chart, it looks like the general public is behind “Should’ve Known Better” the most. It’s sitting in the top 10 with “Next Girl” being the next closest song at 36. Usually the lead single gets the highest placement when the album drops, but that isn’t the case here. That might be a smart choice for single 2 when the time comes.

The sound that Carly has been etching out for herself since IHYHN is something that's been missing from country radio for a while now. In my opinion, it's welcomed.

"Should've Known Better" is a solid song, but "29" is the closest thing she's done comparable to "It Won't Always Be Like This" and she already left that career hit unreleased so I pray that she doesn't do that a second time. SKB is cute, but "29" sounds like a total award-winning smash that would elevate her career to a new height. Absolutely fantastic song.

I just feel like with how much "Should've Known Better" is connecting that has to be the followup to "Next Girl" and I actually could see it being a career esque song for her given the reception out of the gate. I do prefer "29" to "Should've Known Better" as songs but it is pretty clear that SKB is the hit of the EP in terms of how much it is connecting ("Should've Known Better" already has over 9,000 likes on YouTube and is on pace to pass the "Next Girl" likes sooner than later).

Eh, SKB has been out for a few weeks already so it isn't brand new like "29" is and the streams on Spotify for the title track are currently almost 4x the amount of the three other new songs (Liability, Messy, Day One), so it is connecting in a big way too. SKB would probably work as a single, but it just isn't the best choice imo. /shrug

Assuming this one is going to get to the Top 2 like every other single on the chart, it still has about 30 weeks left before it peaks. That said, the next single probably is from the second batch of songs to complete this album. I don’t know that any of the other EP songs will be shipped to radio, though I agree SKB is a hit and IMO should have been out instead of this one.

Throwing a wrench into the singles discussion, but there is an interview with Lyric Mag where Carly basically says that she doesn't plan on putting out anything from 29 to radio, and that she is already working on something to send to radio next.

That's two career definers now (IWABLT, 29) that she pays dust to. What a bummer. I knew more music was coming soon but something like "29" for instance just needs to be widely heard.

Noooooo. I can’t believe Carly and her team is willing to pass up on yet ANOTHER career-defining hit (IWABLT deserved). 29 has tremendous potential to launch Carly to the next level.
I’ll probably look like a clown because I know this is going to be unlikely but I’ll hope it’ll end up being the third single after the next EP comes out along with the second single.

Sis Stop! I like the idea of getting new music out and all but like taylor said she's leaving good music as album tracks. I get that it takes forever for her songs to climb the charts but that doesn't mean she gets to release one song per project.

Unless the next single is going to be Didn’t Do - which i think rivals 29 in honesty and openness - i 100% agree.

Damn, I hope this isn’t true. I thought Carrie had some missed opportunities, but dang, some of these songs she’s opting in not releasing could really propel her. I like “Next Girl” good enough but if they were really only going to do one single it should’ve been “Should've Known Better.” All the other songs have really fallen off since the release, but that one is holding strong in the top 10 on iTunes. Look at all these gems that she paid the dust to. -If my name was whiskey -it won’t always be like this -halfway home -Should’ve known better -29
