I mean, it's not a good Bob Dylan song, but it feels very underwhelming as a #100. There's at least some novelty value and a sense of storytelling about it that kind of works.

#99: "I Got You Babe" - UB40 (w/ Chrissie Hynde) (282 pts) Is there any truer statement than the Pulse hates UB40? None of their songs fare well in any rankdown it seems.

#100 "Tight Connection To My Heart" - Bob Dylan
Already gave my thoughts in an earlier post.
#99 "I Got You Babe" - UB40 (w/ Chrissie Hynde)
UB40 crafts a backing track that seems to consist entirely of factory preset synth tones on this cruise ship karaoke cover of Sonny & Cher. Fun fact: This is Chrissie Hynde's only credited top 40 hit on the Hot 100 without the Pretenders.
#98 "Little Wild One - #5" - Marshall Crenshaw
A forgettable power pop track with an underwhelming hook - this just isn't interesting.
#97 "I Knew The Bride" - Nick Lowe
I only knew Nick Lowe's early material, so the heavy '50s rock and country influences here were quite a surprise. It's a reasonably pleasant throwback track in my opinion, but Lowe recycles plenty of well worn tropes (blue jeans, record machines) without bringing any unique twist to the style, which is probably why it ended up down here.
#96 "This Is England" - The Clash
This is near universally regarded as the best song from the band's Cut the Crap album... which should tell you all you need to know about how good Cut the Crap was. Joe Strummer's heartfelt lyrics and the relative lack of Bernard Rhodes's abysmal production skills keep this one listenable though.
#95 "Dark Night" - Blasters
A hook-less piece of country rock. It's got a little intrigue going on with the dark atmosphere, but that chorus falls completely flat.
#94 "Sun City" - Artist United Against Apartheid
Given how many mushy, cloying celebrity charity/protest songs the '80s churned out, I will give Steven Van Zandt full credit for writing something that was direct and confrontational. Musically though, this track highlights multiple problems that occur with these sort of songs, the most notable being that the beat here is quite bland in order to accommodate the wide variety of performers. Also, the seven minute runtime is way too long.
#93 "Hollywood (Africa)" - Red Hot Chili Peppers
It seems like I'm the highest ranking for this. It took me quite a while to finalize a rank for this one, as it's somewhat repetitive, but the groove here is pretty easy to get lost in as the song goes on.
#92 "When The Spell Is Broken" - Richard Thompson
Not much to say about this one. The tempo plods along, and I don't feel like the track goes anywhere interesting.
#91 "Method To My Madness" - Lords Of The New Church
The very heavy reverb in the production is maybe a bit overkill, but the riffs are fine and the big AOR-ish chorus sounds great. If not for the tinge of gothy post-punk in the atmosphere, this would probably fit in over on the mainstream chart. While I wasn't predicting a bottom 10 finish, I figured the songwriting here was too straight-forward for this one to go too far.

Most of these songs failed to swim out of my bottom 20. #100: "Tight Connection To My Heart" - Bob DylanI'm not surprised this gets the axed right at the starting gate. This was a first time listen for for me. Part of that is, because I tend to stay away from any Bob Dylan vocals as much as I can. As far as vocals are concerned he is isn't winning any points with this song either, but I found the music to have an acceptable and pleasant melody. This is probably the highest you will see me give a Bob Dylan sung ever so enjoy it. #99: "I Got You Babe" - UB40 (w/ Chrissie Hynde)I'd still take the original over this one. There isn't much going on here that UB40 can work with anyway. The only aspect pushed this song out of my bottom 10 was Chrissie Hynde. True story. #98: "Little Wild One - #5" - Marshall CrenshawFunny how the AAA vibed songs are getting the axe first. I mostly recall Marshall from his 1982 hits. "Someday Somewhere" and that other cover song. This one was a first time listen that was pleasant enough is music, but damn forgettable in everything else.. #97: "I Knew The Bride" - Nick LoweMost of these songs show up two decades too late. This one was very uptempo and I like Nick Lowe's music. This one almost like one you could find on K-Billy's super sounds of the 60' and 70's. That's a reference to Reservoir Dogs for us Quentin Tarantino fans. #96: "This Is England" - The ClashThis I totally agree on. I could have lived a much more prosperous life not ever knowing this travesty existed. What actual hell was the band smoking when they decided to record this one. #95: "Dark Night" - BlastersWhat scene was this song from. idk. That's how memorable this one was to me. I actually dig some Blasters songs like "I'm Shaken", but not this song. #94: "Sun City" - Artist United Against ApartheidFirst hard hit I'm taking tonight. back then I didn't know what this song was used for. I knew it was campy as hell, but I kinda dug the music, and the different cameos. I didn't recognize them all, but I knew for sure Daryl Hall, Bono, Bruce, Peter Wolf, and what I used to think was Al Pacino (Little Steven) leading the pack in song. How could it not be in my top 50. #93: "Hollywood (Africa)" - Red Hot Chili PeppersLOL this was a hot mess from start to finish. Was this their first time ever charting? I'm happy to not have known of this song's existence back then. #92: " When The Spell Is Broken" - Richard ThompsonMore tanking of what might have been the AAA sound of the 80's? I didn't find any use for it, but I thought the rest of you might upgrade it a bit. #91: "Method To My Madness" - Lords Of The New Church I generally really dig this band. I dug that this sounded like early Poison, but I also didn't think it fit their lead singers vocals all that great. "Open Your Eyes" , Dance With Me" those are the jams. I bet if we had ranked that "Like A Virgin" cover we would have had a different #100?

extras:Culture Club - Mistake #3One of the lesser known Sophistipop songs from the band. Now a days I listen to this one and think of Dion Estus "Heaven Help Me". The one with the George Michael back ups. I do like this song because of its heavenly melody and it also goes into Blue Eyed Soul territory. Dukes Of The Stratosphear (aka XTC) - Mole From The MinistryXTC singing under a different alias. First time listen ,and this was cool as F U C K. This song had some some strong Beatles meats Modest Mouse vibes. "I Am The Walrus" progressing into "Strawberry Fields Forever" came to mind, and that MV is definitely a throw back to a certain Hearts Club Band. Back in my preteen years I couldn't care less, but now a days I can appreciate a song like this. I gotta add that with "Strawberry Fields Forever" being one of my favorite Beatles songs this one would have been dangerously close to my top 10. Cruzados - Motorcycle GirlThe title of this song has so much Mötley Crüe potential. Never been much of a Cruzados fan, but In the song kinda lives up to its title. Also this band looks like the one that performs at the Titty Twister. Lou Reed - My Love Is ChemicalThat bassline couldn't be more 80's. Just like with Bob Dylan this guy's vocals are pretty toxic to my ears, but with this song playing in the background he didn't sound as bad as always. Kinda sounds like "Dirty Laundry part II" just not a s cool. General Public - Never You Done ThatOOOOOWEEE! I love this one. This was the follow up single to "Tenderness". Such an uplifting vibe. How can I explain why I love this one so much? It's like literally the sun coming out. That's the vibe I get. Marti Jones - NeverlandDefinitely a first time listen. Love the feeling I'm getting here. She could have opened up for General Public. That's how up tempo this one is. TSOL - Nothing For You Weren't they a punk rock band at some point of their career? They have a Dramarama thing going on with this song. I like the guitars works and music, but the lyrics are none too memorable. Not even the chorus. Chameleons - On The BeachI recall this band's name, but this sounds like a first time listen. Either that or a song I have either upgraded or tanked on some member's rock music Rank downs. It doesn't sound like one that would leave a big impact on me. There are some guitarwopks towards the middle of the song that remind me of early U2, but that's about it. Roman Holiday - One Foot Back In The DoorAnother song that you guys would not have guessed turned out to be one of my top 100 of that year. ...and here is why. I probably saw this video a few times on VH-1, heard the song maybe once on KROQ, but recorded it on cassette and played it all the time. Such a different sound from the Wham like "Don't Try To Stop It", but I really dug that Def Leppard meets Bryan Adams style of this Robert John "Mutt Lange" produced song. Don't tell me you don't hear it? It had the Cowbell and everything. They also dropped one l from their band name when they changed their sound. I fricking love this ,ultimately would have gotten tanked on this RD song. Murray Head - One Night In BangkokEnding off tonight's extras on a high note. I was never a fan of the effects that Murray Head used to sing the verses, but I loved everything else about. The nights in Bangkok theme, the far east images, the music, and the lyrics told the story. Felt like of those cool 80's novelty songs that never go out of style..

What actual hell was the band smoking when they decided to record this one. Sadly, the rest of Cut the Crap gets far worse. "This Is England" doesn't do justice to how horrid the album's production work is; just try making it through to the end of the album's lead-off track "Dictator":

That was beyond terrible. For future reference turn off the damn television while recording an album. Seriously who thought that would be a winning effect? 'Cut The Crap' what a shit way to close out a career for an iconic band like this.

"Modern Industry" has a cool instrumental. A little too gimmicky structurally though
