1) PM me (tomsullivanusa) the top 100 Alternative songs of 1985, all ranked to your preference. (e.g. if you like a song the most, rank it the highest and vice versa). 2) The points a song has will be totaled up based on an inverse point system. So if you rank a song #100, it gets 1 point, and if you rank a song #1, it gets 100 points. All the points from the participants will be totaled up. 3) The TENTATIVE due date for submission is Friday, October 16th. The deadline time is 11:59 PM US Eastern. 4) ALL songs must be ranked. 5) To avoid posting with duplicate lines when you PM me, click BBCode below the text box before pasting your list. 6) It would be appreciated if you sent your list in the Artist - Song format and kept the artist and song names as they are here. I'd like to note that I intentionally removed the periods (e.g. R.E.M.), as well as leading 'The's, 'A's & 'An's (e.g. The Cure, A Flock Of Seagulls, An Emotional Fish) - please leave those out to help me keep everything synced alphabetically. 7) All your rankings will be posted when I post a song in this thread. 8) You are allowed to make changes to your list, as long as you do so before the deadline. 9) For reference, here are the top 100 Modern Rock (aka Alternative) songs of 1985, as compiled exclusively from research of Gavin's weekly alternative albums chart (although some extras come from other sources):

Welcome to yet another Modern Rock (Alternative) retro rankdown! First, let me give a big thanks to peacebone for hosting both the '87 & '86 rankdowns. As I can attest, hosting these can be quite a lot of work & he did an amazing job! If you thought '86 was chock-full of awesomeness, well, '85 might even surpass that list's quality. We have the commerical peaks of both Tears For Fears & Simple Minds spawning multiple songs this year. Two Husker Du albums are represented. We reach the end of the line (chronological beginning) for 10,000 Maniacs, Blow Monkeys, Fishbone, 'Til Tuesday, BAD, FYC, RHCP & others. The Clash finally make their debut (from their last ever album). Meanwhile we welcome traditionally Mainstream rankdown contenders over to the Alt side like: Bob Dylan, John Fogerty, Nick Lowe & Velvet Underground. Some artists are showing here for the first AND last time with AUAA, EBTG, Katrina and the Waves & Sade being some of the best known. As usual, I will have a TON of extras for you to enjoy & I will attempt to post all of those BEFORE the actual reveals begin. And as always, if you aren't tagged here but wish to be (or vice-versa), please let me know & I will make the modification going forward. Until then, happy listening!

I'm having a hard time skimming past the top 10 and not thinking "there's my #1".

This list is still missing a lot of great stuff I remember from 1985, but I'm sure we will run into them in the extras section. Also nice to see more Prefab Sprout. Maybe even another future #1 on my weekly charts.

time for some extras: Eurythmics Double Plus Good I don't consider this a proper song per say. The structure isn't following any song structure I'm used to. Also that '1984 (For the Love of Big Brother)' album was weird. Spoken deliveries are not my thing. You know what this reminds me of? have you even seen that episode of Friends where the girls tell Chandler about orgasms and women? Monica goes on yelling out numbers she has assigned to specific female body parts. "2-8-7-. 4-2-7, 2-7-7,... 7-7-7!!! That's about all I have to say about this song. JuliaANother one of that album. This one has a mystical airy aura, and I probably would have liked with more music in the background. This would have sounded great with "Tubular Bells mixed in. The Sisters are Doing it for ThemselvesThis is way more up my alley. Still never got used to this new style they picked up, but ai did like this one and "Would I Lie To You" even more. There Must Be An AngelThis sounded like it was written by Erasure. Easily my favorite out of the four. It has a aesthetic Heavenly vibe in vocals and music. It slowly progresses into an uptempo pop song that even overlays a bit of gospel tones. Too bad we don't get to rank this one. Dead Or AliveI would have gladly sacrificed any other song on the top 100 for at least two of these three. Anyone except "You Spin Me...." and all would get top half ranks on my list. I remember when the band started off with some sort of Gothic Disco sound on 'Sophisticated Boom Boom'. The sound was definitely sugarized a bit with Stock Aitken Waterman as producers, but it's also my favorite era from the band and the sound I'm glad they stuck with. In Too DeepThird single off 'Youthquake'. I have this album on all formats just to have it. The magic to these songs is Pete Burns vocals. This one was a bit more Brit pop territory than Hi-NRG, but still very 80's New Wave. Not my favorite off the album, but still a song I would rank very high. Lover Come BackYes!!! The aggressive style of 80's High Energy. For me Hi-NRG was tuff sounding in all its musical aspects and that one of the reasons I loved it so much. These Dead Or ALive singles were meant to listened in their original Extended versions. That's why these radio edits seem so short, but if you listen to the extended you get all the shout outs and raw synths. Songs like these remind me of "Love Spy" ,"Dance You Love Away", "The Calling". Simply the best in Hi -NRG. My Heart Goes Bang (Get Me To The Doctor)I don't think I ever saw this promo music video, but the band looked great performing the song. This band actually performed these NRG sounds live as well. This is another song You can only fully appreciate in its extended version. I love this Live Japan video because it adds Electric Guitars to an already flawless Hi-NRG classsic. Pete Burns sounds exactly live as he did on record and they knew all the right cliches for perfect NRG lyrics. You have words Doctor, Heart, and Bang bang. there are other words like desire, fire, passion, boom boom, but Dead Or Alive capitalized on three of the premier words for this song. The video below the live one s the extended version which is the masterpiece I have in my collection. Also you can hear one of the percussion sounds that H-NRG and my other favorite genre Hair Metal share. the cow-bell. All hail the cow bell. I'll return for the other extras tomorrow, because I'm gonna stick around with DOA classics for a while.

The Smiths: This band had some really melodic and aesthetic aspects to their songs. Unfortunately I didn't really know their discography back then, but I have been enjoying most of these first time listens popping up in this rank downs.
Headmaster Ritual Not my favorite of the three, but there is still some sort of Go-Go's and Bangles vibe I get in the guitar melos. The song's basic melody needs a little cleaning up, but still a good listen.
Shakespeare's Sister This one would be a bit more up my alley. The melody flows a little easier with Morrisey's vocals than the prior song, and it still has a nice alternative rock vibe to it.
That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore This one has a bit of that dreamy vibe in the music. The melody goes its own way at times ,and doesn't follow the previous route, but it still sounds quite aesthetic because of Morrissey's tones. There is a reason this band fizzled away after he left. Anyway I think Gavin chose the right Smiths songs to rank this time.
Thompson Twins: A band I was much more familiar with and it has everything to do with their Top 40 success. I only recall two of these tho.
Don't Mess With Doctor Dream This song reminds me of another Paul King song, a little bit of "In The name of Love" and crazy enough a few Italo Disco songs from 80's like Atrium's "Funny Dancer". It's all in the jungle like percussion that this band was fond of using in their songs.
King For A Day This was the hit I remember well. I really like this one. To me it sounded more like Level 42 "Lessons In Love" than the usual mystic sounds of The Thompson Twins, but this was their pop flavour side of music. It has the staple sound of New wave bands in 85-86. Easy top 40 for me.
Roll Over This last song I wasn't too familiar with at all. It definitely sounded like their pop side of music, but it also had a distinct Italo Disco feel in the chorus. The synth inserts and especially that synth progression really introduce that chorus. I think I'm really digging this rediscovery because I do have this cassette. There is a whole lot of different beats and vibes going on in this song. My one gripe would be that crappy fade out, but other than that I'm really liking this song.

A good bunch of very strong songs! But quite an eclectic combination of dance, synth pop, AC, and classic rock. Very interested in the first listens, as 1983-86 are my favorite years of music!

Ranking songs and doing extras at the same time. ABCOne of my favorite Sophistipop bands from the New Romantic movement. Even charted a few of their newer songs these last few years. Martin Fry as a vocalist is easily one of my favorite from this genre. I already praised "How To Be A Millionaire" a song that would have been in my top 20 here. Vanity Kills;Let's start off with the premise that vanity isn't all that bad. Some astrological signs come attached to it like it or not. Naturally we are all a little vain in some way or another, but there is also the unhealthy level of being vain. This song touches on that Narcissistic level of being vain. I came quite close to that catastrophic point. Not proud of it, but when everyone around you abandons you realize you hit rock bottom. That was in my teen years , and pulling out of it felt really good. This song kinda sings to me so its one of my favorites from the band. Bryan FerryThe Chosen One. Very similar to Peter Gabriel music worlds. Even the song's title let's you know what to expect. At least he stays away from the exotic third world sounds that I didn't like in Peter Gabriel's songs. Ironically this song is the closest to one of those exotic sounds type song. Could have also been an experimental type David Bowie or Talking Heads. It's not too bad, but not really what moves me. BTW Butterflies & Hurricanes . I know you don't use the The for band's names, but do you also remove it from a song's title. I ask because I checked the song and it's actually "The Chosen One". Don't Stop The DanceI feel that this song though similar to the previous one lends a little more to a melodic vocal delivery. For me that brings out the Sophistipop vibe out more. Think of those classy Sade songs. The Dream AcademyThe Love ParadeI have not heard this album, but this song sounds a bit different that some of the other singles. Unsurprisingly it the sole song on the album produced by Alan Tarney. I didn't recall it, but I sure liked it a lot more that "Life In A Northern Town". It has a softer subtle sound, but I think it really worked for their combination of vocals. This WorldThis definitely sounds more like the first single. This one didn't really do anything for me as it has a sort of Sophisti Folkpop vibe to it. Not for me. Graham ParkerOutside of "Life Gets Better" I don't recall ever charting this artist so let's see what these songs have in store Wake Up Next To You:This one is credited to Graham Parker and The Shot. I didn't like this one at all, but that's ok, because I loved the next one. The Weekened's Too ShortThis is right up my alley. Big uptempo synths. A lot like The Tubes. It's also really catchy, and has Dave Edmund's "Slipping Away" synth riff. On a different note. The song is credited to Graham Parker and The Shot with a title of "The Weekend's Too Short", yet Rhino/Elektra uploads it as "Weekend's Too Short" and drops the Shot from the credit. I know Graham writes all the songs, but the band provided the music, so unless its about some legal shit that happened throughout the years for me the band is just as important. Husker DuI didn't know about this band back then. I heard their name I just never bothered to check their music. I've noticed that I like some of their songs, but at the same time can really hate others. It all depends what kind of music his vocals are singing too Books About U.F.O.'s This isn't what I was into in the 80's. In retrospect is isn't so bad and has a sort of Bruce Springsteen charm to it. I enjoyed the addition of the pianos in this one, but I'm not a fan of the vocals which ultimately brings the song down to mediocre level to me.. Girl Who Lives On Heaven HillSo this sounded like something I might go for because of it's Ramones garage punk style. His vocals fit this style a whole lot better. This song is good , but it's also very melodic in guitars. Much like a Ramone's song would be. That's it for tonight. As always I'm gonna fall behind.

big update:Jason & The Scorchers:Broken Whisky Glass, I Really Don't Want To Know; This band really strikes me as one that should be on mainstream Rock format instead. Both these songs are alright from a guitar rock point of view, but not very memorable. Also the strangely remind me of Meatloaf's early sound. They played some similar sounding songs on that 'Roadie' movie. Lone Justice;East Of Eden, Sweet Sweet baby I'm Falling.Didn't know this band existed before that one big hit they had. Both of these songs were pretty good. The first had some Go-Go's Beatnik vibes, and the second one? You guessed it The Bangles. I like the percussion of "East Of Eden" , but ultimately found the second song to be much more melodic. I might have also given this second song one of the highest rankings on this RD? maybe? Prince:America, Raspberry Beret,The album version of "America" is pretty decent. I never liked that it sounded too much like that National Anthem in the chorus, nor that it was just too repetitious. Now I love "Raspberry Beret". One of my favorite songs of the year, but I don't think it needed to get airplay on Modern Rock. It probably took away airplay from one of those Oingo Boingo songs that should have been on the top 100 list. Sting;Love In The Seventh Wave, RussiansI've covered "Russians" already. "Love In The Seventh Wave" sounds a bit too much like that Bobby Mcferrin "Don't Worry Be Happy" over the top reggae party I just don't need. U2;Love Comes Tumbling, The Unforgettable FireI didn't recall the first song at all. Sounds like a b-side that should be played faster. Actually it Sounds like a slow version of Gene Loves Jezebel's "Desire" which I don't find any use for at all. "The Unforgettable Fire" was quite good. Had a mystic aura about it coupled with a bit of "New Year's Day" in the chorus. I didn't recall it, but I know that it sounded pretty good. This next set are all first time listens.Fishbone - Another Generation:This sounds pretty good. musically it sounds a lot like early Victimas Del Doctor Cerebro's style of Ska Rock. I dare say I like it better than the ones we are ranking, but I'm going to say it anyway. Bongos - Apache DancingI'm really enjoying this band's music. Definitely 'Last American Virgin" soundtrack music. I can see the Valley girls and guys bopping away to this one. It Has a bit of that danceable exotic percussion but it is upbeat. It's Haircut One Hundred meets Roman Holiday. China Crisis - Black Man RaySo which came first? This song or Howard Jones "No One's To Blame". Both follow very similar melody structures except this one has a bit more guitars. I have no idea what the title means, but I'm really enjoying the Sophistipop vibe this song brings. Yellow - Ciel OuvertLived a whole year and France and didn't learn a word. let's see Ciel means sky so I'm guessing ouvert means above. "buzz" wrong answer. Turns out Ouvert means open, so no unlimited KFC coupons for me. However this song is still playing and I haven't found anything enticing about it. I felt borderline Comatose at 4 minutes. Kate Bush - Cloud Busting:I'm glad you brought up who Donald Sutherland is supposed to be? I thought he was Albert Einstein? I thought Kate was playing a Tomboy? This song isn't too shabby. I like the violins, but her music doesn't excite me too much. I noticed Kate likes using that percussion style. Good for her songs I guess? The Blasters - Colored LightsThis is bit Westerny. I remember them for a more Cowpunk vibe. I didn't like this song all too much. I remember having the '45 of "I'm Shakin'" and I think it was because I thought it was Eddie Money's "Shaken" . Both from 1982. The Blasters song reminded me of The Stray Cats, so I ended up liking it a lot. Boomtown Rats - DaveThis is the first year I'm actually digging some Boomtown Rats. Also the most poppy I've heard them sound. The claps in the background are very 80's New Wave. That explains why I like it. Love the chorus this song brings. Download/check for my 80's archives. John Fogerty - I saw It On TVI heard it on Modern Rock radio format? No! Did you? Not for me at all. However in case you all wondering I did like "Rock and Roll Girls" which sounds like like "My Best Friend's Girl" so rest assured I won't be tanking that one. That's it for tonight. next time we will visit one of my favorite Til Tuesday songs, an ubercool Paul Young jam, and a laughable cover from Lords of The New Church of Madonna's "Like A Virgin" which as corny as that one sounds is still somehow better than Mötley Crüe's version.

75% of the way there in submitting. I have no idea how to rank Prince's Pop Life or John Fogerty's Old Man Down The Road as Modern Rock Tracks. I'm having a hard enough time taking Katrine and the Waves seriously...

Just submitted. My #1 was not the song I thought would be my number 1. How in the hell did not one Oingo Boingo classics make the list?!? Brian Ferry's Don't Stop the Dance is also a great song and the Eurythmics Julia is beautiful, the video makes is even more incredible.

let's do a few more. Gonna do these a little shorter as there is a lot of material to cover. First time listens get longer reviews. Basically I'll just highlight songs in red that I thought are Big red zone jams I also charted and loved. Paul Young - I'm Gonna Tear Your Playhouse DownThe funkiest Paul Young jam ever. I was certain we would at least get to rank this one. The Style Council - InternationalistsFirst time listen, but I really loved this one. probably the best I've heard from this band. It's definitely a foot stomper. Midnight Oil - Kosciuskocertainly didn't know about this band until "Beds Are Burning". This is pretty good. I enjoyed the continuous percussion. gave it a danceable vibe. Like something the Valley girls and guys could bop to. The Amoury Show - KyrieI was dreading a Mr. Mister cover. Fortunately this was a song I remember hearing on the radio a few times. Had some gothic vibes to it. Squeeze - Last Time ForeverFirst time listen. had some Sophistipop sounds, but the melody never went in the direction I hoped it would. It was a bit off and I didn't get any catchy hook. Lords Of The New Church - Like A VirginQuestion? Why does any band on the planet ever think they could pull this song off. It was solely meant for Madonna's epic helium induced vocals, and no one else. The fact they it sounds like they have the original song on playback in the background makes it even worse. This travesty from the band that gave us "Dance With Me" and "Open Your Eyes" is such a disappointment. A sure #100 if we had ranked it, because it just pissed me off too. 8D Howard Jones - Look MamaThis was not a big hit. I never even found the '45, but i really liked the fact that it reminded me of Thompson Twins "Doctor Doctor". Still I only gave it a 30-40 peak, because I had no way to listen to it on my own. How majestic does Howard Jones look among his Synthesizer set up? I can think of only one more artist who pulls looking that cool on synths. Greg Hawks. Til Tuesday - Looking Over My ShoulderI always felt this song is what Siouxsie And The Banshees would sound like if they went Synthpop. This song is great. It has a perfect contrast with its uptempo music and Aimee's low tone vocals in the verses. Part IIX- Love ShackThis song was good ,and not at all what I expected from this Punk Rock band. In retrospect this sounded more B-52's than X. Once the guitars roll in in goes in a Go-Gos direction. I never charted anything from this band, but if I was too it would have been this song. The Cure - A Night Like ThisA more straight forward Alternative rock song for the band. I thought it was nice. Robert Smith vocals always take any Cure song to better than your average band level, but it doesn't sound like radio single material. The Stranglers - No Mercy I didn't recall this band much. Every time I see them on this rd's I want to anticipate The Specials instead. This "No Mercy" song isn't for me. It's sort of poppy but has the most un poppy vocals ever. This singer's vocals are not for me. The Colourfield - Pushing Up The daisiesI'm enjoying the psychedelic vibe this band injects in their sings. It feels like I'm listening to The Doors with a different singer. It's all in those bass lines. Definitely one of my First time favorites here. Simple Minds - Sanctify YourselfYou know the Modern Rock charts were wack when we get to rank this song on mainstream Rock, but somehow fails to make the top 100 on Modern Rock. Anyway great song a top 20 hit on my personal charts as well. New Order - SubcultureI was never ever to pinpoint that melody? It's most likely from another New Order song, but all the same I love it. Especially the Hi-NRG vibes in the synths after the chorus. Another great aspect is how the synth progression sounds like a haunting melody when played like organs. The Talking Heads - Television Man A standard Talking Heads song , but it also has a pretty tasty new wave bassline. Dire Straits - Walk Of LifeThis song is alright. I charted it too, but basically because I was still on a major high with "Money For Nothing". The music sounded like The Hooters which is good, but the lyrics and the way Mark delivers them kind of teeter totters on a fun, but silly line. Also I don't know what the hell I would have done with this song on a Modern Rock list, which to me was basically the New Wave/Synthpop sound.

That's a lot of songs for one artist extras: I'll listen to them and choose one favorites. maybe two? The Dammed:All four of those songs sound good, and I would have surely found a way to slot all four in y top 50 without sacrificing my favorites. All first time listens, and they all have slight Smiths music elements. Lead singer has those great 80's vocal tones. "Is It A Dream(Hold Tight)' sounds like the best production to me. Very melodic in the chorus. AT the same time I really loved "Shadow Of Love" for having Spanish Rock elements. If I had to choose it would be "Shadow..." for it's stronger rock force. Two different vibes for the band I would have slotted high on my list. Depeche ModeFlexible: Sounded a little odd with that western vibe. It's Called A Heart - This song I knew and really loved. It was more Erasure /Hi-NRG in the way the beats and synths were played. Most of the Depeche Mode songs of that year were overshadowed by "Shake The Disease" which was great, but not song of the year great. I did love the part of the song which goes down a tone ,and he sings "understand me" after the chorus. I wish they had constructed a ballad type song out of that part. Oingo BoingoThere is no excuse for these three songs to miss the top 100. 8D They were not particularly popular on top 40 so this Gavin guy really screwed up by not playing them on modern rock college radio or whatever. All I know is that these classics were all over KROQ (back when KROQ was cool of course), and at least one of them would have made my top 10. Just Another Day - Starting off with the fastest one, and the one that sounds most like Spanish Rock. I'm not sure if that is a xylophone, but it sounds great played throughout the song. Originally I peaked it in the 20's, but I started liking it more and more as I got into Spanish Rock in the 90's. Now it's my favorite of these three. Dead Man's PartyOriginally I didn't care for this one too much. Maybe because its strayed too much from the top 40 sound of New Wav/Synthpop of the 80's.? This is another song that became on of my favorites after I was introduced to Spanish Rock. Weird Science:Originally my favorite of three. It was the main song from one of my favorite movies of the time of the same name. Creating your own babe from magazine photos was every preteens dream. This one was also the one that sounded most like their songs on the first album. A quick dip into one of the best 80's novelty New wave songs ever. Great for it's era but much like the film hasn't really aged as well as the other two songs. A bit of trivia: Danny Elfman ,and Warrant's Jani Lane also have something in common since "Cherry Pie" and this song were both written faster than usual. They both claimed the songs came to them in a matter of minutes, were specifically asked to write the songs , eventually both ended up hating the songs' commercial success. Danny Elfman so much as to never play the song live again , and Jani Lane so much as to blame "Cherry Pie" for the downfall of Glam Metal. Power Stationwas basically The Duran Duran sound without Simon LeBon on vocals. At least we get to rank one of these in mainstream, Communication - This one was the least successful and it was basically "Some Like It Hot" part two. A good song, but could have used a bit of diversity in melody. Get It On (Bang A Gong)I had no idea who T-Rex was back then so this was basically my introduction to the song. I liked this one because it didn't sound like a typical Duran Duran song, but it did sound like Andy Taylor's "Take It Easy". this one has the same guitar strumming progression and sounds like good old 80's Guitar rock. I later found out T-Rex was in fact Glam Rock. Some Like It Hot:My favorite of the three. Perfect percussion, bass, vocals and guitars. I feel Andy really needed to have a longer guitar solo, but it also would have taken the spotlight way from Robert Palmer. It's such a crying shame we miss out on ranking this one. Robin HitchcockThis guy's vibe really isn't for me at all. Kinda folky ,and sounds like he wrote these songs in the 70's. Plus what the hell were those lyrics in "My Wife and My Dead Wife". If I had to chose one it would be "Strawberry Mind" for the uptempo vibe, but surely not for his vocal tones. second batch of extras: I'm only gonna cover those we don't get to rank on mainstream, but really WTF is up with "Tonight She Comes" missing the list. I guess Gavin didn't want me to have the same #1 song as I did in mainstream Rock '86. The Sun Always Shines On T.V. Actually this might have been a big contender for my #1 song. It would have certainly made my top 3. Even higher than "Take On Me" which was actually a song I took to #1 on my old '85 charts. This one however is epic to the highest level. "Take On Me" features Morton's vocal high in the chorus, but this song has him on Heaven mode all the way through. this song soars to the highest point a song can take me. Gorgeous lyrics sung with such passion. I could ,and never will hold the notes the way Morton does, and I sing pretty decent for a regular "joe". Also special note on that mid break. I love the way it goes down a few notches in melodic tone only to be shot like an angel to the heavens once the violins take over. It is the perfect way to introduce the one final chorus. A final note in that perfect outro to the song with Morton side by side with the music 'til the final exit. That's music Power. Take On Me:I won't be able to overpraise this one. It's a great 80's song that through the years has lost the crown as my favorite a-ha song. it is still a masterful 80's synthpop classics with one of the best synth hooks ever dreamt up. The Cars
It's blasphemy to not rank The Cars in a Modern Rock top 100. Tonight She ComesLove Love Love! Obviously. Why can't I Have YouStay tuned for mainstream rocks comments/praises. Game TheorySome first time listens here. 24:Interesting combination of Bangles sound with some synths in the background. I like it with the female additions. It gives it more of the authentic Aesthetic vibe i love. Here Comes Everybody:More of the guitars /synth combo that worked on the first song. I like his vocal tones on this song a lot more. Doesn't need to be aesthetic because of the mystical/gothic vibes. Like a Clan of Xymox ballad type song. Definitely the more interesting of the two. exxon gas near meHooters:Never visited, but if I did I probably would never leave. LOL! you wrote Hooters without the "the" but this time it looks like another word for tits or famous sports club restaurant instead of the band's name. Anyway I'll cover these jams in mainstream RD. King:Love & Pride:The first time I heard this one was on KROQ(back when KROQ was cool of course). I thought it was new ABC or Spandau Ballet. Paul King had those similar vocal tones. Must be the British accents, but I basically loved all the songs with this style vocals. This song reminded me of early Spandau ballet like "To Cut A Long Story Short" not as synthpoppy as the top 40 new Wave song, but surely catchy enough to fit on any Modern rock format. A fantastic breakdown showcasing some really strong New wave style guitar works and that powerful outro where Paul holds the last pride note and meshes it into an ooohhhh to the finish. One of my favorite exits ever. Right up there with "The Sun Always Shines On T.V." Both KROQ and I both slotted this song at #16 for the year end lists. Question? How in Hades did this song not make the cut? I feel like I've been cheated out of ranking some great songs that will never get a chance to rank on any other format. Won't You Hold My Hand:Another great song. I loved this band cause they brought their style back to early 80's New wave, but still had the same great vocal tones of ABC, Human League etc... The Kinks:I guess one of these we are ranking on main stream? Good Day:I definitely prefer "Do It Again". I generally like Ray Davies vocals and songs. Mostly their 1960's songs, but this one did zero for me. Especially after listening to those last two King songs. I'll cover Mick Jagger, and David Bowie dancing, and clowning around on Mainstream Rock Rds ,and The Knitters? hmm.. You can only guess what I thought of those songs?

{Blue Kiss} Milkshakes

{Boy In The Box} featured video: Broken Wings - Mr Mister This was their breakout hit which flew all the way to the top of the charts. With another #1 & a 3rd single going Top 10, opening for Tina Turner on tour & several Grammy nominations, this Richard Page fronted band from Phoenix seemed poised to be the next big thing. But they flopped HARD with the release of their third album in '87 & were never to be heard from again.
