www.radioandrecords.com/Newsroom/2004_12_14/wycryork.aspWYCR/York, PA Shifts To Classic Hits After close to 30 years in the CHR/Pop format, Radio Hanover's WYCR today flipped to Classic Hits as "The Peak 98.5" under new PD Ross Murdock, who arrives from the PD role at WKXA/Findlay, OH. Former PD Davy Crockett continues in morning drive at The Peak, and the rest of the air staff will return to their shifts shortly. Murdock told R&R, "Management felt this was the best thing to do to maximize revenue." While 2000 revenue came in at $2 million, WYCR's billing has steadily dropped since then. Additionally, the station's ratings had declined from an 8.6 in spring 2000 to a 4.5 in summer 2004. "This will be an AC-ish Classic Hits station. It's rock 'n' roll for a 42-year-old mom or dad." Core artists include Fleetwood Mac, the Eagles, the Beatles and Journey. From me: Some of WYCR's lsiteners can get Clear Channel's WHKF Harrisburg-Lebanon-Carlisle (which is almost all rhythmic) or WLAN Lancaster.

Shit, that was one of the better ones too!
WHKF is not a pop station (although they claim they are).

I'm very sorry to see YCR go. It was a great, quirky little pop station that played lots of obscure hits. It was also the first station I ever DXed. I don't see the new station doing any better than YCR, in a market that already has Rock AC The River from Harrisburg playing pretty much the same music.
Luckily, York listeners still have choices for Pop on the dial, including WHKF and WLAN as mentioned above, and also including WCPP and WNNK, both of which are pop-leaning Hot AC stations.

I've also read in R&Rs new year-in-review issue, that WHKF lost their PD a few months ago, who's now running the nation's most prestigious CHR/Pop station, the 'legendary' WNCI in Columbus, Oh.
Quite a promotion, huh?
