Crazy that Dreams is going to re-enter because of TikTok If TikTok can resurrect old hits, then it's time to start a prayer circle to get "Running Up That Hill" back on the Hot 100. Or literally any Kate Bush song. At all. You can hate on it all you want, but TikTok has reignited my excitement in chart watching. Also, I'm excited that "Dreams" is re-entering because it'll round out the song's total of 19 weeks on the chart to a neat and tidy 20. If it makes it to 22 weeks, it'll be Fleetwood Mac's longest running chart hit, surpassing the #4 peaking "Little Lies"'s total of 21 weeks.

It's incredible that "Dreams" has a chance of re-entering thanks to a viral TikTok video. I couldn't agree more with π‘πππππ€ that the fact literally any song can gain new exposure truly makes chart watching even more exciting than it already is! On another note, I'm so happy to see Ne-Yo getting a predicted new entry with "U 2 Luv", and it's nice to see "Moral Of The Story" back. Hoping both can have solid chart performances.

Just shows that as much as we all love predicting the end of year charts, they aren't the be-all and end-all of what determines popular music at a given time period.

Those year end lists are subject to the statistical methods used at the time and the time periods chosen Neither of which were consistent or perfect.
With the methods in place now, if they were to retroactively produce year end lists - they would look a lot different than what was published

But because "Iris" didn't have a retail single at the time, and the Hot 100 wasn't just airplay, it would've only hit #3 (was it iHype that worked that out about 2 years ago?)
As such it needed those retail points to get anywhere near "Smooth" levels.
Recall it only made #33 on the recent 90s Billboard tally.

TOTC I believe indicated if Iris had the exact same Hot 100 chart run as it did on the airplay chart (18 weeks #1), it would've been #2 on the all-time chart. However, that's a pretty inaccurate/misleading measure to throw out there. That's just 1 component chart. Hot 100 was still pretty sales-driven, and it would've only peaked approximately #3 with 0 sales. It wouldn't have had a similar run as it did on the airplay chart. pulsemusic.proboards.com/thread/186852/charts-airplay-tracks-charted-90sIt would've gotten 20-25 weeks top 10 though. So yeah, it would've been huge (Another Night by Real McCoy comes to mind with a similar run, #3 peak and 23 weeks top 10). However it wouldn't have been #2 all-time huge.

It was sales driven only because that is what the market was. Withhold major singles to support album sales
Had the market been different - who knows - impossible to predict

iHype., were you ever able to calculate what these would have peaked at?
The Rembrandts - Iβll Be There For You Selena - I Could Fall In Love Fugees - Killing Me Softly Primitive Radio Gods - Standing Outside A Broken Phone Booth With Money In My Hand Alanis Morissette - Head Over Feet The Cardigans - Lovefool Counting Crows - A Long December The Wallflowers - One Headlight OMC - How Bizarre
No pressure, but these would be fascinating!
