Ironically in the song, “sorry but I had to...” Tory brings up the Chris Brown situation about how he’s popular even after everything that’s happened and how he (Tory) will be okay as well.
(Exclaimer, I’m not streaming the album, just listened to the song since it was about the Megan situation. Play Joji and MGK instead please)

Just finished listening to the Joji album for the first time. Have lukewarm feelings so far but that BENEE collab...can we please not make her a one hit wonder?

Once Go Crazy and WHATS POPPIN leave the charts, can we please stop giving hits to men who've actually confessed to doing violence to women? Like allegations are one thing, confessing to injuring women so bad they had to go to hospital is another.

Thank You. He and his pathetic minions continue to disrespect, take advantage of and make a complete mockery of Black Women and their struggles and then act as if they’re OWED something by them later on because they’re skin-folk. I genuinely can’t stand these motherf*ckers!

Like allegations are one thing, confessing to injuring women so bad they had to go to hospital is another. While I agree with you, unfortunately, it's simply not as easy as we stopping our support of men with abusive/problematic pasts. Some of these men happen to have established fanbases that continue to support them regardless of whatever accusation is made against them. A good example is R. Kelly and how his music continued to receive support 18 years ago when he was indicted on 21 counts of child pornography and had several accusations of sexual abuse and misconduct with both underage girls and women of age. Last year, following the release of the Surviving R. Kelly documentary (this was following multiple reports and articles from reputable publications in 2017/2018 accusing him of having a sex cult with underage girls), he still had shows booked and people were still streaming his music and that's for an older act with a lengthy, detailed and disturbing history of problematic behavior. For newer acts, people will simply find a way to excuse the person's behavior or they'll act like it didn't happen and then a few weeks later, another news story is what everyone is concerned about and they'll slowly go back to publicly supporting them. I've always maintained that most of our faves (male and female) are "problematic" or have done/said problematic things in the past. It's impossible to know the messed up things famous people do or say until it's exposed (a more recent example is Ellen and how she had her entire positive image shattered this summer with all the accusations of workplace abuse her workers came forward with). Whether or not that's worthy of them being "cancelled" over, I don't know but I listen to musicians knowing that at any point in time, they can get exposed for something they said or did in their past that I don't agree with or believe is problematic. Of course, violence/abuse towards women crosses a line and I believe anyone who does that should be punished to the full extent of the law, but on the topic of people seizing from supporting their music careers, we can only speak for our individual selves. There are many problematic artists I've stopped supporting who are still flourishing today. Lastly, when we go down history, MANY of the music legends we revere today did really messed up things when they were alive/were in their prime: from messing with underage girls/boys to abusing women and various other sorts of problematic behavior. I wish it was way easier to cancel certain people but it really isn't.

The industry does not support R. Kelly or 6ix9ine any more. Individual support is of course different to industry support. There will always be people who like R. Kelly, Chris Brown, 6ix9ine etc regardless what they do, but the INDUSTRY should stop supporting them. It's crazy that the r&b community never stopped backing Chris Brown - in fact they back him now more than ever I'd say.

I think the Tory Lanez is a bit different because hes using tragedy or at least a violent altercation to promote a project he put. I had similar thoughts on when Ameer Vann released a solo, on how they used their allegations as a promotional tactic.
You could plead at least death of the creator when listening to a Chris Brown, Ike Turner, Bobby Brown, R. Kelly., etc., because they didnt use any of their crimes to promote their work (although Chris Brown has definitely used this tactic too so he's not completely off the hook here).
And also in regards to legends, especially ones that have died, I think the conversation is lighter because they're not actively profiting. Again, you'd have to talk about 'sins of the father'and 'guilt by association', but I think most of us would be more comfortable consuming the art of terrible people if we knew they weren't alive to profit on any exposure.
If you want a more in depth essay on this, Sarah Z, Lindsay Ellis, The Radical Douche, and Adam Ragusea have made terrific videos about death of the author and separating the creator from their work.
Finally, I'll just say that it is obviously all of this is a case by case basis. The type of crime, the degree to which they were guilty of it (how many other incidents have they done that were similar), and if they are able to reform matter. If in 5-10 years, Tory is sincerely remorseful and he's done a lot to reform, all the more to him.

Travis numbers are a bit low. Turks did more in the U.S. first day. This is back to back songs that feel like aren’t going to be legit hits with any real longevity. He should be killing it coming off the momentum of his McDonalds deal. I feel like he’s in a tough situation and these brand deals are going to get old fast if the music doesn’t do damage. I know this song has literally been out 24 hours but I can just tell they’re going to do the one week push for #1 then the song will be done. Don’t @ me just wait and see. I know it feels rushed to say this won’t be a legit hit but the responses I’m seeing from true Travis fans aren’t good and I’ve liked Travis since upper echelon and I don’t like the song. It feels unfinished and it’s not MIAs fault, they all under performed.

Unfortunately Tory Lanez seems to be doing good on Apple Music, but only one track from his album debuted in the Spotify's top 200. We love to see it

Joji's album is longer and has more tracks so it makes sense he'd be doing better overall though as you can see, MGK has two songs in the Top 10. Still, congrats to both artists; great debut for Joji and this is MGK's best debut to date.
Biggest Gains (50K+): Put Your Recors On, What You Know Bout Love, my ex's best friend, For the Night, Laugh Now Cry Later, Lemonade, Mood, and WAP

When the next album comes maybe we’ll see some greater longevity, higher quality and higher numbers. Think of this as the weeknd’s 2019 (pre heartless)

I too am surprised by Travis' numbers. I was expecting 2 million minimum.
I got an email early this morning saying my order of the first set of physical copies are on the way, which confirms that they will count for the Hot 100.

I love that Joji and Machine Gun Kelly are doing great on Spotify! Although I'm routing for Joji to get that #1, if Machine Gun Kelly ends up getting it I won't be upset at all. Both projects are the artist's best yet. Also lmao at Tory's Spotify numbers, thank God for that. Now there's a good chance for all three of them.

I won’t be surprised if FRANCHISE becomes the “Watch” of Utopia and ultimately gets left off. He’s hinted at the album not coming out until he can tour again plus I don’t think he’ll have a song with listed features on the project.

I think it'll be more like BUTTERFLY EFFECT where it's just tacked on at the end. If anything, I think THE SCOTTS might actually get left off. Btw y'all straights trippin if y'all think M.I.A. was whack there. M.I.A, Cardi, and Megan repping good for female rap
