Add Shawn Mendes and Blackpink/Cardi bhere. Wooo Is it just me but do like half of these read like April fools single threads to anyone else? More crossover collabs have been happening very rapidly over the last two years.

Savage Mode 2 apparently releasing this Friday, I wonβt be surprised if some other releases are delayed, even though the album probably wonβt have as big of an impact as his previous albums.

Dua/DaBaby vs Meg vs Jason/BTS Add Shawn Mendes and Blackpink/Cardi bhere. Wooo The BlackPink and Cardi song isnβt the single though so I donβt think itβll be that big. Blinks are going to focus on the lead single.

Assuming Nectar and Tickets to My Downfall have a decent impact on the charts, we'll be saying goodbye to DOLLAZ ON MY HEAD, The Bigger Picture, Blueberry Faygo, Say So, Savage, We Paid, Die From a Broken Heart, and Chasin' You

I think it speaks of the career progression since their beef Eminem would go on to make one of the worst albums of the year while MGK would make one of the best pop punk songs of the year. Godzilla > forget me too

Didn't realize "Put Your Records On" was a cover of the 2000s hit. Such a classic.
When was the last time a new cover actually gained enough traction and charted multiple weeks on Hot 100? I'm sure the Glee Cast last did it around their 2011/2010 peak, but drawing blank at what would have possibly done so since.
Seems like this song is on its way to having a chart run, whether it'll be a big one, who knows yet.

I don't mind the cover but the original was a childhood favorite of mine so I'll be a bit peeved if it ends up being more successful stateside than the original

There aren't cover songs charting all the time in 2020. I'm aware in the past decades there was plenty. However it has become much less common, which is why I asked when is the last time one came along.

There was also that godawful Dancing on My Own cover that was a hit internationally but only spent 2 weeks on the Hot 100. But in terms of a cover being a hit? The closest one that comes to mind was the Disturbed cover of Sound of Silence back in 2016.

Covers of older songs are still common - they just don't chart in an era where rap is dominant.

DAE think that Come and Go, Mood, and MGK's album will make pop rock a new trend?

Covers of older songs are still common - they just don't chart in an era where rap is dominant. Rap being dominant has nothing to do with it, considering cover hits/songs have been out of style years ago at this point. Most new covers charting the past 15 years has to do with being tied to a one-time performance on a TV show (Glee, American Idol, The Voice, etc). The amount that were released as singles on their own, pushed traditionally and charted is almost non-existent. I believe it has more to do with the digital/internet era (2005-present) making older music more easily accessible/discoverable, thus labels just assume people would rather hear/discover the original than gamble with a different artist re-introducing the song. Also sampling/interpolations have obviously been more commonplace.
