Sales should be more relevant. 1 digital download for instance brings in a lot more revenue than 1 stream Money directly out of the consumers pocket I don't see that changing, nor do I see it as a Billboard credibility issue Although revenue is correlated to how popular a song is, a song does not need to make the most money in a week for it to be the most popular. Literally just look at "WAP" and "Harlem Shake" (I'm not too sure on the latter tbh), which weren't the highest earning songs of the week, but were clearly the most popular. I didn't say that the #1 song needs to bring in the most money, I was responding to "keeping sales relevant" The weights have been adjusted many times since but they were initially set up on a revenue basis = Like 1 download brings in a dollar -- how many streams does it take to bring in a dollar That would be the reason that sales appear to have more weight. Each download has more impact on the bottom line

That would be the reason that sales appear to have more weight. Gary This is the reason, because they DO have more weight on the chart than they should:
Billboard 250 paid streams = 1 sale RIAA 150 paid streams = 1 sale Rolling Stone 120 paid streams = 1 sale UK chart 100 paid streams = 1 sale

True, if you want to see the most popular songs in America just look at the streaming chart. Hot 100 been out of touch for a while now.

Hey, fhas would you mind dividing the sales by 2 in your spreadsheet in Excel and posting how the top 10 would look like with sales counting half. 10 sales = 1 point in your formula. Reason for dividing sales by 2: Billboard 250 paid streams = 1 sale RIAA 150 paid streams = 1 sale Rolling Stone 120 paid streams = 1 sale UK chart 100 paid streams = 1 sale (I haven't updated the radio numbers after today's Kworb update...) with sales/5 1. Franchise 35,500 2. Dynamite 30,600 3. WAP 29,100 4. LNCL 25,300 5. Mood 24,600 6. Blinding Lights 23,500 7. Rockstar 23,200 8. Savage Love 21,300 9. Watermelon Sugar 20,300 10. I Hope 20,300 with sales/10 1. WAP 28,400 2. Franchise 25,700 3. LNCL 24,900 4. Mood 23,900 5. Blinding Lights 22,800 6. Rockstar 22,800 7. Dynamite 22,000 8. Savage Love 20,500 9. Watermelon Sugar 19,900 10. I Hope 19,600

Gary, sweetheart, please stop. You are arguing a whole different point than what the other user is. He always reads a post, then adds his input on something the post wasn't even directly talking about?? Nobody is saying 1 sale should count less than 1 stream. However, the current formula does overweigh sales importance. Per RIAA, 85% of the industry is streaming in 2020. There is absolutely no reason why week after week it should be sales being the major factor in these songs going #1.

btw, looks like RS single chart doesn't include artist store's digital sales. so BTS is low on this. I didn't know that. wow.

Last week WAP was the #1 song on the Revenue Chart despite of WAP selling 9k and Dynamite selling 153k. So I wouldn't be so sure about sales being more relevant. hitsdailydouble.com/song_revenue_chart

This is the first week since August 27, 2016 that the Top 2 songs in the U.S. have less than 20M streams.
August 27, 2016 1. Cheap Thrills 13.1M 2. Cold Water 19.6M

At least Iβm happy for M.I.A., I never thought Iβd see her again on the charts (on top!), sheβs so talented. Female rap just wonβt stop dominating

Still hope Missy Elliott, Eve, or Queen Latifah can get a #1 as features someday.

just curious how many #1s this year would've gotten there without massive amounts of sales?

just curious how many #1s this year would've gotten there without massive amounts of sales? - Circles - The Box - Blinding Lights - Toosie Slide - Savage - Rockstar - WAP - Rain On Me is a tossup, not sure if it would've went #1 or not without those few physical versions.

AIWFCIY, Circles, The Box, Blinding Lights, Rockstar, and WAP for sure If you get rid of sales, I think Say So wouldβve been there too, as the next song below it was also sale driven. I could be wrong, but at least Iβm confident Blinding Lights wouldnβt have been number 1 that week.

Gooba would've also made it if Say So and SWU weren't being juiced.

BB really needs to do something, the charts are becoming a joke π From BTS releasing 300 discounted remix versions of one song to a song that isn't even top 5 on streaming and has negligible airplay topping the chart...

I mean, I love "FRANCHISE" but this is weird. Like a user said earlier, "WAP" is the actual number 1.
The Stan Wars have been insufferable this year. Barbz (BARF) VS Beyhive, ARMYs, Beliebers/Arianators VS 6ix9ine fans...UGH. Make it STOP.
Gotta be honest though, excited M.I.A. has a #1!!!
In case anyone was wondering, here is the Rolling Stone Top 10
1. FRANCHISE - Travis Scott 2. WAP - Cardi B 3. Mood - 24KGoldn 4. Laugh Now Cry Later - Drake 5. Lemonade - Internet Money 6. For The Night - Pop Smoke 7. Holy - Justin Bieber 8. WHAT'S POPPIN - Jack Harlow 9. my ex's best friend - Machine Gun Kelly 10. ROCKSTAR - DaBaby --------- 14. Dynamite - BTS 17. Blinding Lights - The Weeknd 18. Savage Love - Jawsh 685 & Jason Derulo 21. I Hope - Gabby Barrett 25. Watermelon Sugar - Harry Styles

YESSSSSSSSSS!!! TRAVIS SCOTT #1!!!!!!!!! I'M SO HAPPY AAAAH. MY GOAT! There's a sentiment online for the hip hop heads that his popularity / fame / exposure peaked in 2018 with SICKO MODE but alas... in 2020 here we are with the fastest accumulation of #1 singles (sorry ms. grande butera) Nice to see that America is eating up *literally* Travis Scott after Rodeo is so much fun to witness. From the McDonalds burgers, to the fornite concert to the #1 singles Travis is having a great year! (Y'all will reply to this with longevity... but who cares at this point in the year when half the #1s this year used #tactics from the pop girls to the rap stars. It's now commonplace) It will matter when he drops his album and it doesn't serve any sort of longevity whatsoever. Or when he tries to push a single off it and it flops after it's first week. You may not have noticed but Travis' fanbase is streaming less and buying more, so while his next album may have a bigger debut than ASTROWORLD, it may very well not serve the kind of longevity ASTROWORLD had on streaming. Well. ASTROWORLD is still the 22nd most streamed album on Spotify this week thanks to the new Spotify Weekly Top Albums Chart, which is higher than some 2020 releases ('Dark Lane Demo Tapes', 'Certified Hitmaker', 'Detroit 2', 'WUNNA', 'Pray For Love') so there's already still some more lingering interest in his 2018 material than some marketed-as-fresh releases. [thanks @spotifycharts!] Rap albums in 2020 that have proper streaming longevity and on the BB200 have great viral content in them (see: Pop Smoke who currently has 7 songs in the Top 200 of Spotify: #5, #11, #30, #47, #83, [#105], #156). Which I'm sure Travis Scott has absolutely no problem delivering considering 'THE SCOTTS' and 'TKN' memes & challenges that have taken place on various social media apps during the summer. Or if I'm wrong surely he can go to Aubrey for help in that department considering left-foot-slide-right-foot-up Michael Jackson dances and rapping unintelligibly in Arabic is apparently what the kids want to listen to despite poor longevity (and not even entering) on the Hot 100. I'm sure Travis Scott will be fine.

WAP should have at least 7 weeks logged at #1 by now, this is ridiculous. The #1 single in the country is #3 because the two songs above it have bundles out the ass and BTS stans somehow have unlimited money.
And here comes BTS again next week at #1 with Savage Love....

Look out Eagles your record(?) of having 5 #1 songs as their only #1's that all spent 1 week at #1 might be in jeopardy.
