Second single from 1999's Rainbow. Mariah wrote and produced it with Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis. It spent a week at #1 on the Hot 100 and (in remixed form with Joe & Nas) R&B chart in early 2000.
This is my least favorite of her Hot 100 #1s, but I don't mind it. I much prefer the "Make It Last" remix which is one of my favorite remixes by her.

I think it's pretty melodically and the chorus and the bridge are really strong. The production on the album version is unfortunately so flat, so I never revisit it.
The Make It Last remix is excellent though, definitely the version I revisit this most. And the Celebratory remix is cute too.

I love both versions. The original is way too underrated!

The original is fine but one of my least favorites of her #1s. The remix is fantastic and among her best ever.

I've always loved the StarGate Radio Edit that comes in the CD Single. It has a better production than the album version which seems a bit plain in comparison. It's amazing what a few tweeks here and there can do.

Love the Stargate radio edit as well. I used to stan the original when it was first released though.

Don't remember this one too much although my top 40 station B96 in Chicago played it (not sure which version though as they were a rhythmic station back then) and the AC stations in my market (Lite FM 93.9 and 100.3) played the album version. The remix version sounds better than the album version by default although Mariah has made better songs in the past. One a side note, wasn't this the last of her major string of consecutive hits between 1990 and 2000 before her "Glitter" meltdown?

I know this is a really uncommon opinion, but this song is really special to me and one of my favorite Mariah songs. It's corny, but it makes me feel so happy and nostalgic. Rainbow was the album that made me a Mariah fan, so I probably listen to it the most even if Butterfly is a better piece of work.
98 Degrees dates the song more than anything, but I don't have to think about them being there unless I watch the video. I love the remixes, but the original is the one I play the most. I just recently discovered the Stargate mix which was the UK single version. I was tempted to order the UK single to get it, but thanks to the MC30 EP, I didn't have to!

I remember when my mother heard this song when she sang it in a popular tv French show with Joe, she thought they sang the song out of the tune. Now I found it funny because it was actually a playback performance. But I can see why she felt that, the chorus melody is very busy, it sounds a bit too forced.

Celebratory or Make it Last mixes only.
The original? I don't know her.

Nothing negative to say about the Remix. Queen of remixes, and this one is why.
The original is fine. I don't seek it out.

The original version is fine. 98 Degrees is pretty much Joe's background singers. lol.
The "Make It Last" remix (with and without Nas) is my favorite version. The music video has that homemade video quality similar to the "My All/Stay Awhile" video.

i tend to like Mariah's ballads more than her more uptempo songs . so there are several of Mariah's #1's i like less than this .98 Degrees might be my favorite of the late 90's boy bands i like them more than The Backstreet Boys and NSYNC.
