The payola on this is absolutely blatant it's #2 on callouts what else do you want? it's not doing aswell on itunes and shazam today, but a couple of weeks ago it was near #1 on itunes and #1 on shazam after over 3 months. It's a radio fuelled hit at this point but it deserves to go #1 because clearly the radio listeners loved it. It peaked on spotify and apple music months ago

@pheebs I know things don't look so good now but if Lonely could go this far Anyone can too. Anyone is more radio friendly it's #2 on UK airplay, I feel it will be the biggest radio hit out of the 3 in the US too. Just wait for Holy to come down his team should start pushing

The strong callouts for this despite the offensive yodelling makes me believe the theory that Scooter has somehow bought the scores tbh!

People here have jumped on other artists for having a song gaining strongly on radio despite not doing well on other metrics, let alone 3/4 of them.

Let's see I don't think it's necessarily payola (they would have probably used it to prop up "Holy" to the top spot, as it's always seemed to me like that one is their priority over "Lonely", which didn't even make top 10 on the Hot 100 (yet?)), but it's clear to me that Scooter (or more likely, his radio promo team) are working overtime right now, but they're getting little returns streaming-wise; I also can't shake the feeling that as good as the numbers are, Justin is still kinda dropping in popularity? I don't think a lot of people care about these songs in the way some of his other hits have reasonated. Out of all the tracks he's done since 2020 started, I still think the most memorable for general audiences is "Yummy", and for all the wrong reasons.
I ain't mad at it, it's Scooter's (and his team's) job to get their client to have the most exposure possible, and radio-wise, they're doing well, but I can't help but feel like ultimately these songs are not gonna stand the test of time. Do y'all feel like "Intentions" is as big as it's chart run suggests? I had to actively seek out the track to hear it, in spite of it being among the top 10 most popular songs of the week for a couple months. It's also hard for me to think that Justin is so in demand that radio has to naturally have 3 or 4 songs inside the top half of the chart.
I could be wrong! It's hard to gauge long term impact when the songs haven't even dropped off the charts yet. And the pandemic has made the pop culture more fractured than ever. I might have had to actively seek out "Intentions" but the house next to mine might have been playing it nonstop since it dropped. But I think he might be approaching the Maroon 5 status where radio will play you by default while general audiences don't really give a f*** (give or take a "Girls Like You" smash).

I don’t see how this is being “Payola’d” yet nobody on here has a word to say when Dua Lipa’s singles hit #1 on CHR/pop despite not being in the top 10 on the hot 100 (or hitting the top 10 thanks to radio). The bias towards female pop divas on here is without a doubt.

^^yeah no one said anything about songs like "I Hope" either, radio was by far its strongest metric and it went #3 on hot 100 because of airplay. Radio likes Justin, since 2015 he has always got good support, don't hate him because radio doesn't give same support/no longer supports certain female artists.
btw Lonely debuted #14 on hot 100, its peak is #12 so getting closer...
