i didn't expect the homeless gypsy to make it this far...it's a guilty pleasure but not a better song than "Woman In Chains", not even close

I was hoping this would make top five. This isn’t even my favorite Prince song but I still really enjoy this

NO ORDINARY LOVE vs. WALKING ON BROKEN GLASS Which song will win the first Lost Hits of the Early 90s rankdown? Will the Lost Hits veteran Sade take the title or will newcomer Annie Lennox be crowned champion? Both of these songs had low standard deviations with one having the 5th lowest SD and the other the 14th lowest SD. Each spent time in first place and both also received a #1 ranking. They both also had significant support in terms of top 5s with one earning 9 such rankings while the other received 7. chanman , Juanca , samo🦕 , and Az Paynter , along with myself, all still have their #1 in the running. Who will get to see their favorite emerge victorious? Find out in a few minutes...

Listening again and I think I underranked this a little bit, but it doesn't do too much for me as a song

That concludes the first Lost Hits of the Early 90s rankdown! Once again, thank you to all participants! I hope that you had fun and enjoyed this rankdown list. For me personally, I think this was my favorite one so far out of all the Lost Hits rankdowns I've hosted. As for the results... going in I was unsure which songs would be in contention, but as more and more lists came in, it became clear that "Walking on Broken Glass" was going to dominate and rightly so with 14 of us ranking it top 10. And even though they didn't win I was overjoyed that 2 of my favorite songs from the decade, "No Ordinary Love" and "Constant Craving", were so well received. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) Next up in the Lost Hits series will be the third and final Late 80s rankdown. That one should be both a fun and interesting list to rank given the strength of songs in that rankdown. Hopefully I will be able to get that one up and running relatively soon. {WALKING ON BROKEN STATS} ![](https://i.imgur.com/AJVTSn2.png)

Sorry I'm just catching up with these reveals! Just sharing some thoughts on songs I ranked +- 13 spots of difference. 47. The Shoop Shoop Song (22): I remember hearing this song first in a UK Top 40 countdown show, where it reached #1. This was at a time when pop radios put several oldies in good daily rotation, so I was kinda ready to love a cover like this one. This song didn't receive much rotation in pop radios, but it still became a personal chart-topper. I love the original by Betty Everett more, but this was a decent version with enough Cherism and modern vibe for me to like it 46. Too Blind to See It (32): A top 30 in my personal chart. I remember liking this when I first heard it in AT40. Nice dance vibe. 44. La Lambada (4): This was HUGE in Peru, deservedly and understandably so. The original is an Andean folkloric song "Llorando Se Fue" by Bolivian group Los Kjarkas from 1981, which was a huge song in the early 80s. This reinvention by Kaoma kept enough elements of the original that we loved, but giving it a more mainstream, modern vibe, and we loved it. Plus, the dance itself -lambada- would become a frenzy. We would dance the sexxxxy moves in all parities at the time, and then the rhythm itself would be used by Kaoma and many artists in the next couple of years, making this genre one of the most popular in the early 90s. 40. People Are Still Having Sex (24): This was a great discovery for me in a Pulse RD. I still like the production quite a bit, and find it quite interesting and eclectic for an early 90s song. Was hoping to see it a bit higher 35. Dirty Cash (18): A personal top 20 that I've grown to like more with time. Very catchy, with a strong eclectic production and instrumentation (including that sax). 29. Sacrifice (3): This may be the Elton's ballad that I've heard the most in the past 20 years, as I've come back to it several times. Back in '91 it received some minor airplay in a couple of pop radio stations, following the success of Whisper. It became a personal chart-topper. I'm surprised it's this low in this RD. It reminds me of Sinead O' Connor being flabbergasted at how she managed to cover this song for the Two Rooms album because no other artist was asking to cover this particular Elton & Bernie song. 26. I Don't Know Anybody Else (6): I loved all the Black Box singles. The production is ace, as is the music with that great piano, synths combo, and of course the amazing Martha Wash vocals -who should've been given an official credit! A 90s dance classic that still sounds as good as back then. 25. Spending My Time (7): I was very surprised that this song flopped in the US. Back in Peru, it was the second biggest hit of the Joyride album, after the title track. It was also their second personal chart-topper, following Fading Like A Flower. it would have a new life in 1996 when a version in Spanish was released as the lead single of Baladas En Espanol and became a hit in Spanish-only radio stations. 22. Stars (2): Awwww. I LOVE this song. It was a hit in one of our rock radio stations, and a big hit in my personal chart -reached the top for a couple of weeks and ended in my yearend top 10. I still listen to it once in awhile. I find the instrumentation and vocals haunting, elegant, exquisite, just like what a classic should have. 17. Sweet Thing (35): I didn't like this back then. I've warmed up to it more with time, but it wasn't enough for me to rank it higher than 35. Real Love is the real gem of this album for me ![](http://yoursmiles.org/ssmile/fun/s0244.gif) 16. I'm Gonna Get You (31): I've always liked the beat and production, but its repetitiveness gets annoying to me, especially with repeated listens. Plus the WHYYYY (Waste your time) gets tiring too quickly to me ![:-/](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/undecided.png) 15. Paper Doll (44): At this point of time of their career, the talksinging verses schtick was getting a bit stale. The chorus was a bit too repetitive to me, although I do think the production is quite strong. In terms of Extras: - Summer Rain: This made my personal top 3 (she'd still reach that zone a couple more times later on). I like the melody and the signature chorus choir... I'm not using the original version anymore though. I much prefer the Justin Strauss Mix -and a short "radio" edit I made out of it :) - Something Got Me Started: This was their first of several personal chart-toppers. I love the sexy, elegant, classic instrumentation, and of course Mick's vocals. Stars would become one of my favorite albums of the early 90s. For Your Babies and Wonderland were personal top 5s too. - Vibeology: One of my favorite Paula songs, which became her 5th personal top 3. I love the beat, instrumentation (sax! percussion!) and production (including the Gregorian chant-like and the Go Paula! ![](http://yoursmiles.org/ssmile/fun/s0244.gif) ) - Heal the World: This was my favorite song off Dangerous back then, reaching the top of my personal chart for a couple of weeks. I don't consider it my favorite now, but I still like it quite a bit, especially the melody and overall classic production. - Little Bird: This was another album I really liked in the early 90s. This made my personal top 30, but I've grown to like it even more with time, although not as strong as Why or Walkin'

10. Leave a Light On (5): This was her last song to receive wide airplay in Peru, and it soon became one of my favorites from her, reaching the top of my personal chart. A great follow-up to the Heaven On Earth era, with the added bonus of having George Harrison playing the outstanding guitar bridge! 9. Can't Truss It (21): This was a great discovery --my 3rd favorite actually, after Mind Playing Tricks On Me and It's A Shame. Good to see at least one of these discoveries in the top 10. 8. Erotica (29): Received just a bit of airplay in a couple of pop stations in Peru (much more than Justify My Love and Rescue Me). It made my personal top 10, improving JML's performance (top 20) but not RM's (top 3). I think it could be a better song if it were shorter, as it drags a bit too much. In any case, it's in my bottom quarter of all M's singles, and even though I love Madonna, I think there were much stronger songs than this one in this RD. 7. Woman in Chains (10): I didn't like this back in the day, but I've grown to like it much more with time, especially thanks to my greater appreciation of the instrumentation as well as Oleta's vocals. 6. Money Don't Matter 2 Night (33): One of my least favorite songs of Prince in this extended era. I think it's a bit monotonous and not that interesting. especially for Prince. 5. Mama Said Knock You Out (28): I don't recall hearing this one in the 90s. It's got an interesting production, but I'm not a big fan of the melody. 4. Gypsy Woman (9): A personal top 10, and a song I still like and find fun, with cool sorta timeless production, and good lyrics especially for a dance song. Great to see at least one strong dance song in the top 10! I think there were enough strong songs to have a few, but well, at least one made it :) 3. Constant Craving (16): Interestingly, this song received good airplay in pop stations in Peru. It barely made my top 20 -she'd later have a top 5 thanks to her slick duet with Elton John. It's successfully passed the test of time, and still sounds strong and timeless now. I really like the instrumental and her vocals, as well as the unconventional melody in the chorus. 2. No Ordinary Love (13): Good to finally see Sade this high. This didn't make my personal chart, but I've grown to like it much more with time, turning into my 3rd favorite Sade song as of now. Just like with Constant Craving, even though neither was in my top 10, I can't complain to see these two strong artists in the top 5! 1. Walking on Broken Glass (1): YAAAYYYYY!!!!! My favorite Annie Lennox song! I've loved it since I first heard it. It became her second personal chart-topper, and ended in my yearend top 20 even when it was barely played in radio stations in Peru. I love the instrumental and production, mixing pop, new wave, and classical vibes, also Annie's amazing dynamic vocals, and strong melody. So happy to see her atop this RD!! Thanks a lot rowellfarm490 for hosting a great RD, with a pretty strong selection of songs!! Look forward to the next one.
