Damn, my closeness for this wasn't very good at all, lmao. I had barely noticed when we were down to the top 5 because every song is so solid! "Makin' Me Fall In Love Again" is a good song, but I honestly always forget it exists. It feels like Kellie's biggest filler single to me. Still good, and would have been a fun song to see in the top 2 just for the randomness of it! But #4 definitely makes sense. "Stand Back Up" FAR exceeded my expectations here. Let's be real, this is very much the worst song on their incredible debut album. I expected it to be a bottom 3 contender, not top 3! That being said, I did like it a LOT more upon revisiting it for this Rankdown than I ever did when it came out, so I'm not disappointed to see it do unexpectedly well. Man, we need to rank this album sometime though, because it's definitely one of the best debut albums of the last 20 years If THIS song could do this well, I feel like just about anything else from this album would have been a surefire unstoppable #1 here! Ugh, I had a hunch that "Your Side of the Bed" might have slightly more support than I was predicting, but it sure is disappointing to see Martina get edged out of that #1 spot again... In the grand scheme of things she has regularly performed better than any other female artist in this series, and #2 is still better than "Lies" has ever done...but she has still come up just barely short of victory more often than anybody else in this series as well, lmao. "Your Side of the Bed" is a great song, but I'm just kinda tired of it now after all these years. It'll still be incredible when I randomly revisit it in 5 years and I fall in love with it again! But for now I've definitely overplayed it. "Lies", on the other hand, is one of Martina's most beloved late-career album tracks, and has definitely gotten its share of flowers on Pulse through the years as well! Even if it hasn't ever won yet, this top 2 is yet another nice feather in its cap after years of being praised as a missed single opportunity, finishing as the highest album track in the Shine rankdown (even surprisingly beating "Walk Away"!), being a top 10 finisher in her overall full-career album-tracks rankdown, etc. Those vocals stay absolutely outstanding, and it's honestly impressive how easy she makes this song sound despite an admittedly quirky melody making it a song that might be a pretty tough sell from many other artists! I strongly disagree about "Stand Back Up" being the worst song on their debut album. I've always considered that one to be incredible, lyrically and Jennifer's vocal performance is great. I do agree that we need to rank that album eventually

I do agree that we need to rank that album eventually That's fair! Although tbh it is one of those albums where there really isn't any song that is legitimately deserving of the title of "worst", so people's least favorite will mostly be arbitrary based on whichever song happens to be unlucky enough to be loved the least That being said, "Fly Away", "Tennessee", "Speed of Life", and maybe even "Hello" are pretty highly regarded in their catalog, and none of the singles are particularly disliked, so I'd be willing to bet that in an album rankdown "Stand Back Up" will be one of maybe two songs that are outta luck, maybe fighting with "Small Town Jericho" to escape last? (I could be wrong about "Hello", but that's honestly the only wild-card I predict on that album, lol)

Just never cared for that one and not a fan of Jennifer's vocals on that one. Sometimes I can enjoy it but it was always my least favorite song on the album. I remember when it was announced as a single I was devastated lmao because of that fact. Anyways, knowing Pulse I could see "Stand Back Up" being lower overall but I do love that one. I'd like to think it'd be higher than a couple tracks though. Oh and "Hello" is among the best as well, easily. I have always loved that one.

Oh yeah, "Down In Mississippi" is totally not one of my favorites either. I can still hear the hit potential, but there were like four other songs that I would have rather seen released from that album in its place!!!!
